Lowkey I didn't know Destiny 2 was still supposed to have a story. I played it on release when it still had an actual campaign then came back to it when I got a Series S (waiting for PS5 stock) and I assumed from the lack of any direction the game gives you beyond completing tutorials that it was just a sandbox game now where you have to make up your own things to do.
that's because they let you do any campaign (that you own) in any order, at any time, wrecking a new players ability to parse the story.

Yeah, this is going to be a true test to see just how blatant they can be with marketing via streamgoys. Marathon still has very limited presence amongst normalfags but if Bungie somehow managed to psyop the games performance through sheer top down marketing in such a direct matter then that would be truly impressive.
I at least think it's going to be considered a disappointment at launch by the company, though I don't think it'll reach the disasterpiece levels of Highguard and Concord. Still could, mind, and I don't exactly expect it to make the distance, but this'll be more in the range of a Veilguard or AC Shadows - enough that corpo pundits can claim at least for a while it's actually doing good.

Well as a new player that completely passed me by, and I even had my friend and his squad to play with and none of them ever mentioned this or suggested I should do it. We just ran raids and PVP events (which I found much more fun than regular PVP).

I think the up-front buy in is going to play a big factor. I know it's still the standard for this type of game to not be F2P, but coming from the same studio as Destiny 2 I think a lot of people will be asking why they are expected to pay for one and not the other.

Especially when Destiny 2 originally cost $40 at launch; a lot of people might wait to see if Marathon also makes the haily mary transition.

bungo is obviously trying to cash in the destiny players since they ported more D2 animations to it if you look at the trailer, it'll have some of the bungocattle to keep it afloat for a while but money wise you need to see the tactics, obviously they will try to do some eververse battlepass shit, although sony actually killing it is rare as they can keep a skeleton crew working on it easily.

actual players would be interesting, if people that have previously played D2 will see the game for what it is, a shitty extraction mode that bungie hasn't added to D2 because reasons and go back to D2 due to sunk cost fallacy, other people that are just trying it will have their own factors to keep playing it, even if bungo is trying to fish people for the aestethics the game still a reskin of D2 at the end of the day and there are many other extraction games out there, not counting the FOTM stuff... although marathon taking the spot of highguard is interesting as the horizon fatty bitch game that is meant to come out is also going for the next concord spot, shieet we might see bungo failing at releasing "the laughing stock of the month" game, i was going to say that they should be on the line between feeling proud or ashamed that might happen but these are retarded idpol people, shame is a word that does not exist on their dictionary.

It visually looks good, which is something that most of these AAA Devs can't seem to get right. Even still - the art DIRECTION strikes me as very poor because I still have no clue how or why any of the things in this universe are the way that they are, and you can't discern any of those details from the way the world is built.

it just looks like big shell from metal gear solid with neo-memphis block colors. Neither of those things are exactly associated with world building in fact they're near opposite extremes to alienate the viewer lol

This is what I saw to draw my attention back to this game after watching the trailer. I thought the trailer looked absolutely fucking incredible. this? This looks like the kind of game I go out of my way to not play, everything about this is awful. It's just cyberpunk pink and blue leds, there isn't a single crumb any of the cool visuals from the first trailer.

A guy I trust who played the alpha said the gunplay felt like absolute shit, so I wonder if they're in the process of porting it to whatever engine Destiny 2 runs on. This would make it even easier for a skeleton crew to maintain, but also exacerbate the people asking why this isn't just a mode in D2.

its already on that engine, all the guns have the same fire-rate, firing animations, reload animations, and I bet if you could peel back the dongles on them, same general frames.

seriously they can't hide that shit from me, I instantly see "oh that's a Rapid-Fire Scout Rifle"

Driftor going over everything he disliked about earlier marathon builds and going over what he's liking so far about the new build that we've been seeing. Comes off as less of a Bungie shill than a lot of other YouTubers

I don't even care about the gameplay. The aesthetic is such a wasted opportunity i'm absolutely fuming. These guys showed off something that legitimately looked boundary pushing, like they were putting together some kind of artificial constructed world that immediately communicated through visual storytelling that the entire world was made up of the weird goo filled biomechanical robots from Alien. They literally did the ghost in the shell bit but with... caterpillars with barcodes on them? what the fuck. The metal gear solid 2 looking postmodern industrial machinery looks like some kind of constructed playground for these entities to fight inside of. It's got this neo-memphis vibe that makes the world look fake and bullshit, but with such strong visual symbolism on the other half it just hammers in that the world is fake and constructed for some nefarious end. Who made them? Is it a squid game style television show? Did they become sentient and break containment? Are they pawns for warring AI's like the other marathon games?

Haha. None of that is important. Maybe we'll give the hardcore fans a crumb of that information destiny-style after a hundred hours of grinding, as a reward.

blud you can just ping @dltzk or watch his videos on it, even the 2025 one still looks like destiny in most of the animations.

I just got recommended a vlog from Marathon's official youtube of this lesbian looking ass dude telling me how he sticks clay in his piano so that has me hyped to try the game. Thanks bungie!

Grok is really useful at helping me shit post:
"Turn this man into a wojack with his mouth agape. Also make the rest of the image match him after that."
i prefer my 'jaks to be handmade, they have more SOVL, then again what you are jakking already looks sovless so there's that.

Yeah it has a fuck ton of reused animations from destiny. Thief's grapple is literally just strand abilities from destiny 2. Safe to assume the same for most of the weapons in the game. They already have DMT and the BXR-55 with just different models. The BXR in marathon pretty much feels like the one from destiny.
