If you could bring one discontinued firearm back into production what would it be? Mine would be the HK P7M13.

Fite me.

1.) is there any reason to own NVGs or thermals if you’re just a retard who goes to the range to shoot paper or to the desert to shoot steel? If you don’t go hunting in low light conditions, is it basically another “gucci” item to buy to flex on the poorfags?
You'd be better off taking a carbine class and buying buckets full of 556 that are equal in price to high quality duty NVGs.

I’d be more than willing to take a proper shooting class but I have been working on stacking 9mm and .223+5.56 for a year and a half now.

I only have about 3,000 rounds of mixed .223+5.56 but I don’t get out to the range as often as I’d like anymore.

I have a pvs 14 and never use it. The biggest problem ive run into is finding ranges that will let you shoot at night. I have one close by that lets me, but only once a month, because the owner wants to be there. Also i can't do anything besides sit/stand at the firing line. No moving or anything. And IR lasers/illuminators make my gun heavy af so i took them off.

Honestly its cool to have and walk around with in the woods, but if i could redo it, i would have rather gotten proffesional training and much more ammo.

Ammo prices seem to just get more and more expensive these days. I'm stocking now while i can. Perhaps in 4 years we'll look back on 40cpr brass reman 223 as "the good times". I mean just look at this """"""""deal"""""""" of 50cpr steel case 762x39. foto_no_exif (1) (28).jpg

No carry handle on the barrel? Thats either a repro upper or weird one off prototype.
I don't know man, what you see is the gun.
It was definitely an open bolt and all the parts in the lower were like nothing I had ever seen before.
Hammer was really strange way.
Safety was strictly on/auto.
Barrel was ultra heavy, gas tube was unique.
Bolt was slick.
You can tell it was quite some time ago just from the quality of the picture.
The whole thing overall was weird but everything was Colt from what I recall.

admittedly that doesn't mean much. Colt's commercial products have varied specifications over the years and they are known to have made mix-master rifles when they discontinued a specific feature just so it's not sitting on a shelf somewhere. there's nothing stopping anyone from making an all-Colt LMG upper receiver group with M16A2 upper receiver to mate with a normal M16A2 LMG lower. if you had seen and noted the lower receiver markings it would make identifying it definitively much easier.

can you even actually hit anything with those? looking at it, i think it has side of barn MOA.
Its a piston gun that is 'silenced' by containing the gas inside the cartridge, so by the time it leaves said cartridge the acceleration is over and there isn't a ton of point in having a barrel, hence them sawing it off

Interestingly there was supposedly a closed bolt version as well.

NODs are nice for stargazing and UFO spotting. Not worth buying unless you've got $4k+ burning a hole in your pocket, though.
This just sounds like poorfag cope by someone that doesn't have a KAC SR-15, night force NX8, dbal-a3, surefire light, and dual PVS 14s. Its not like you need to see AT NIGHT or anything. Why don't you just take all your gear off and leave it out in the open for us NVGgers to take so we don't have to treat your corpse as a loot drop mkay? If you don't have NVGs and IR aiming devices, you're pretty much defenseless and might as well not even try and fight back when SHTF.

this is sarcasm meant to make fun of people. I dont actually think this.

Yes! (I plan on going to a Milsim west game and mostly use mine for grabbing to go pee in the dark and walk around at night)

I met a guy through work that is an FFL and he’s supposedly selling “NVGs and thermals”.

2.) how legitimate of a proposition does that sound like? I remember reading somewhere on here that high quality NVGs aren’t cheap and the technology for Made in USA ones are proprietary secret squirrel shit.

Guy said he supposedly “has a buddy” that works for a manufacturer in the state that he moved here from. It could all be bullshit but I know there’s posters ITT far more knowledgeable than me about that stuff.
I don't want to read this text block what do I do?
1)If he won't let you look right through the lens there's something wrong with the lens he doesn't want you to know, walk away.
2) Proper sellers will have a diagram showing blemishes in the lens and where they are
3) Digital isn't viable helmet mounted
4) The tube is the most important thing since diff gens may not be compatible. Also since tube have a limited lifespan and degredation is exponential
5) Autogating is nessisary if you expect strong lights. That will damage your tube.
6) Tube quality is USA>China(You aren't getting a hold of Chinese ones, very low production)>France>Russia (???? idk)
7)Active lighting is basically a giantantic "SHOOT ME" to anyone with NV as well (See, the large ass square box on the Japanese Type 74).

A) In a SHTF situation the guy with NVG is 9/10 going fuck up folks without thermals or NVGs at night. See combat footage in Iraq/Syria of the guy with a sniper and thermals/night sights just ramboing entire platoons.
B) Key tech is the photo-cathode that "amplifies" light. That thing is heavily restricted because it's a bunch of material science state secrets. Too much light will damage the tube by pushing the electrons past where they can return to zero.
C) Depends on generation of NVG and type.
There are a few types:
1) Light amplification (passive) - First gen, needs moonlight, bulky as fuck
1a) Active amplification has an infared (usually) or low intensity light shine around you.
2) Out of Band near IR - Heavily restricted, great for defensive duty/counter sniper (Very little reflection in other NVG)
3) Digital - power intesinve and feedback delay, cheap and heavy as fuck.
4) Thermal - Mainly firefighting use, GL getting a high res one. Higher ones heavily restricted
5) Fusion - Thermal + image amp. If you find high quality in the civilian world expect FBI to knock your door. Chinese ones better than the US ones in certain aspects.f

Basically how night vision works, it's a like a binnocular but with a plated photocathode (think like a battery) that excites/calms extra electrons, thus amplifying the amount of light to human light levels.
Gen 1 is passive amplification - Bulky and limited FOV, blinded by flashes and poor detail near the edges
Gen 2 - Is basically gen 1 but better with a few internal changes, lighter
Gen 3 - Has some low level material science changes, increased"halos" but improves battery life, cleared focus around the edges. Major FOV increase
Gen 3+ is basically 1990-present day gear. Has a thing called "autogating" (Think PWM for the photo cathode, increases lifespan and reduces chance of random failure from flashes).

Gen 3 and later: filmless>thin film> thick film but also more expensive. White phosporus > Green phosphorus.
If you legally aquire current cutting edge tubes.... I think only the US can make some in excess of 40k hours expect to be on several watchlists.

I just ordered 1000 rounds of M193, and 1000 of 9mm 124gr.

I miss the good old days of 20 some cents per round M855.

I'm having a difficult time narrowing it down to just one, so I'm going to say the FG-42 Type 2, the STG-57, the Colt Monitor/R-75/R-80, the Winchester Model 71, the Mauser C96, and the Mauser 06/08. Actually, that last one was only ever a prototype, but I would love for a production model along with the 9mm ammo designed for it.
