The K vs normal MP5 differences only matter for handguards and stocks/braces. The K and fullsize MP5 patterns use different buttplate geometry. There are a few MP5K clone manufacturers like POF (the Pakistanis) that make a mullet gun, short in the front, full size in the rear.
or also known as a "reverse stretch".
As far as i know the DOD still retains these guns. The paper trail can be followed to October 2022 in the US Navy and april 2023 in the US army. the trail runs cold in the USMC in 1989.
these were primarily MP and SP weapons, and sometimes retained by air crews or brown water units as a backup when 1911's was still a general issue weapon. no mags, moon clips, and depending on model you can use police issue .38 (the M10 and M15), military .45 ACP (with moon clips, not common but these did exist as the M1917 was used through Vietnam and still had a place in extremely limited roles), and the "new" 9x19mm (again with moon clips). in the 30's up through to the 80's an MP that didn't have a 1911 probably had a revolver of some type, and since the 1911 was still issued regularly and MP's were typically rear echelon, the MP's got leftovers mostly (stateside base guards, standing watch at a pier or warehouse or airfield, et c) except those that were overseas in an active combat zone.

Aside from added armor penetration, I just never got the appeal of PDW type weapons like the MP7 and P90. I've heard stories that their ability to stop a bad guy is worse than a typical pistol round, where it essentially took a full mag from a P90 to put a threat down unarmored. I definitely think the P90 looks cooler than the MP7 (and I'm a massive HK fan) to the point where I once owned one of the older PS90s years back, but if given the choice I think I'd much rather have a B&T TP9/MP9. I think that's one of the best SMG style weapons on the market, especially when you factor in the suppressor. It's compact, lightweight, reliable, and a proven design at this point.

It's a shame Springfield Trapdoor reproductions are so fucking expensive. I've been wanting one for a while but can't really justify $2,500 for a single shot .45-70 right now without selling something else and I loathe to sell one gun to buy another. The Taylor 26" officer model is just so attractive though.

My Kel-Tec Sub 2000 had the charging handle break off during shooting, just sheared straight down in the base and thumped me in the chest while ejecting a round. Was able to jam it in to at least clear the firearm and lock it open, but was EXTREMELY disappointed as I have gone to bat for Kel Tec before since my Sub 2000 had been rock solid prior to that. Joke is on me, because my PMR 30 had the sight fall off too... from fucking .22 magnum, and I never even carried the damn thing. I have the Sub 2000 back now but I am heavily considering just selling both and getting the S&W knock offs of both the firearms. Or just writing off .22 mag entirely and using the money to save for one of my dream guns. Good lesson learned on not cheaping out on firearms, I suppose. Guess all the memes about Kel Tec trashcan guns wasn't just Fudd whining.

Lol. More like saving properly and just being worried about the future but yeah.

Found out when I got the ammo that Winchester gets its 7.62x39mm from Serbia, that's where it says it's made on the box along with "PPU" on the inside. Either good or bad in terms of non magnetic, I've gotten non magnetic copper jackets from Serbia for my SKS, and the jacket looks copper at least, so it should be gtg.

Also I hate this box:

It's filled my ammo can where if it was the typical square boxes I'd still have room. Sigh. Guess I just get another one lol. The SKS hungers for food.
Bro they're just repackaging and marking up fucking PPU ammo hahahaha. Just buy PPU and save yourself some money! They make good ammo, if a little underpowered for what I would prefer. Also I agree that I love 7.62x39, it's a fantastic cartridge and doesn't get enough love just because filthy communists made it.

I mean that is a option lol. But yeah. 7.62x39mm is based. It took the west decades to make a proper clone. I like me my barrier penetration, simple as.

Sometimes even the government gets something right.

buy a original. almost 700,000 were made.
I have plans for the one I want, and I'd rather not ruin an antique. The cheaper (nice) originals are usually .50-70, which I'd rather avoid dealing with all together. The .45-70 originals are within the range where I'd rather just get a repro for my plans anyways.

what are you going to do with it?

The plan is to eventually, after enjoying it in its stock form, turn it into a slightly modified Disruptor from The Mandalorian. The last few years I've grown a habit of turning various excess guns into shooting Sci-fi guns. Not even a fan of Star Wars, just liked the show and the gun was neat.

So @Club Sandwich I got the Cobb the other day. Holy fuck I was not expecting it to weigh 15.5lbs in its current configuration. Considering the listing said 10lbs. I can't legally hunt with it in Idaho now which is dumb. It also has a proprietary handguard and barrel nut so I can't easily rebarrel it. That said. Reliability has been interesting. It has issues chambering the first round, however once it chambers, it ate everything from tula 308, to Barnes 308 match. As well as WWB 7.62x51 and some Armscor stuff.

Yes that is an AR-10 carry handle on it.

iirc the upper itself is very close to an Armalite with some minor differences (a clone, but modified for long action and short action cartridges). the barrel nut looks like a YHM job that could use their barrel nut wrench (YHM-9621). you would have to measure the distance between holes though. the short action Cobb was a lot better than the long action, and i seems like you won out. G3 mags aren't as cheap as they used to be but it beats having to get KAC mags or AICS.

Lighter handguard/stock, maybe flute the barrel? (I'd personally rather not, with the latter, since it also means it'll heat up faster.)

Maybe a local shop might be willing to skeletonize some remaining bits if need be.

That law sounds retarded tho. It's a shame to have to deface that beast. I bet the extra weight helps a lot with recoil. Not that I envy you the carry weight.

Edit: although, what are the odds Fish & Wildlife is going to see your rifle and decide to weigh it?

Edit2: Come to think of it, I've seen some real nice cheap hunting furniture with the camo patterns painted on. Maybe look at some of those. Could easily hot-swap them for hunting season(s), and the camo adds a little utility even. Based on the price alone, I'm assuming they're cheap plastic junk, and ergo should be light-weight.

Also the soft points are absolutely devastating anti personnel rounds. Way more energy foot-pounds than 5.56 too.
I have some Hornady Black ballistic tips just for hunting. Absolute deer killers right there, as well as low penetration if I need it/am concerned about walls. 7.62x39mm is one of the most versatile rounds I've ever seen. Moderate recoil, decent range, good energy, and because of being 30 cal, many flavors.

Edit: Also got more ammo on my paycheck. This online buying is fun but expensive lol.
