Mike Judge and Comedy Central are "reimagining" Beavis and Butt-Head for Gen Z

Yeah, I don't see this working very well.

Beavis and Butthead are parents now? The whole point was them being brain dead losers who would never score, even hookers and mail order brides turned them down in a few episodes.

The show was a great parody of younger gen x and older millennials in the 90s. The early 2010s revival was still good in it's cartoon segments, but them trying to riff on things like Jersey Shore and 15 and Pregnant was the weakest part of the show. I love B&B, but it's a product of it's time that needs to stay in the 90s. Mike Judge is a talented guy, but I can't see him being able to pull this off very well without sounding like an out of touch boomer trying to stay in touch with what the kids like these days.

I can see them be parents by simply lowering their standards and going for the bottom-of-the-barrel trailer trash. Now, if they want to replicate what the modern zoomer generation is, they can just go to any random discord server and see how the average zoomer's a fucking idiot in their own unique way.

The being parents is strange to me, as for why that is:

Beavis and Butthead are supposed to be losers. They make no real effort to change, and when they do attempt improvement it's simply to score. Their peak in life never happened, the duo annoy or disregard everyone in their lives, and take the path of least resistance. They are stuck in a perpetual loop of idiocy and destruction. In other words, what we saw in the 1990s is their personal hell that they are too stupid to acknowledge, but we as viewers do and we laugh.

Beavis and Butthead can incorporate modern material, but it should be a prop, not a crutch. Adding kids may fall into this plot convenience crutch, if it doesn't undermine the premise - addressed previously - that contributed to the show's success first.

I can imagine a version of B&B where the two of them managed to score once each with worthless, manipulative women and had kids who don't respect them, but who are both still totally oblivious to what losers they are. If Judge could do that without falling back on the "haha point and laugh at the funny dad" cliche, it could work.

I could, maybe, see two single mothers ditching their kids onto Beavis and Butthead, while they go out and party. Beavis and Butthead would do it, if they thought they could score. This would technically make the kids theirs, while not drastically changing the formula.

I think maybe I spoke too soon, but on 2nd consideration, I think maybe this might work to some extent. The reason why I'm having a change of heart is due to seeing the negative feedback from CalArts SJW's who want muh diversity, muh trans inclusion, and hopefully this new cartoon will be a huge middle finger to them from Mike Judge. We'll se how it goes, but take it with a grain of salt.

Modern Beavis and Butthead: My take.

One of them likes soundcloud/bandcamp stuff.
The other only listens to video game music
Both of them like the 70's-80's-90's music that has floated back to the top in recent years both obscure and mainstream.
Instead of music videos they watch liveleak/youtube videos at the computer.

I don't think gen-z kids really go out to do stupid shit like people used to in the old days (Firecracker Bowling Ball, Dryer Surfing) but that might just be my experiences clouding everything. I know the police are far twitchier and it's much easier to get caught these days with cameras and electronic logging everywhere. Maybe instead they troll online games and chatrooms/forums? (But I know that's a really hard concept to fictionalize) Maybe they go out into the desert to do stupid illegal shit? There's multiple answers to this question.

Instead of huffing lighter fumes or paint they should be vaping really shit cheap unregulated stuff.​

Also, will B&B commentate over Death Grips? That would be the fucking shit.

Boys Boys Boys presents stereotypes about men — an appetite for fighting, or for flirting — then explores “other models, other possibilities” for masculinity.

The show is rooted in documentary. Each episode is structured around at interview with a man who has, at some point, felt that he doesn’t fit the mold of “manliness.” His comments are then interpreted in allegorical visuals: for instance, the animation may show a guy on a bike competing against racing cars, to convey the speaker’s feeling of inadequacy. It’s a playful approach to a worthy subject. Notably, the interviewer and director, Clawdia Prolongeau and Valentine Vendroux, are both women.

Guys, relax about Mike Judge going woke. In 2013 he did an interview with Alex Jones ffs.

There's a myriad of modern music videos on Youtube to make fun of, especially in the category of semi-amateur mumble shit with an endless supply of dumb kids playing gangsta and going "brap brap". But those videos are also just the same thing over and over again, so good luck in keeping the commentaries funny and varied enough for two whole seasons...
Switching from B&B sitting on a crummy couch to them sitting at a crummy desk with a crummy laptop shouldn't be a problem.

Whether it does end up being a "fellow kids" thing, that's always a risk, even with someone as smart as Judge. But I liked the 2011 re-boot so I'll take the risk, and I myself don't know shit about what "the kids" are up to these days anyways, nor do I really care. I just want to crack up at their dumb commentaries.

I've seen speculation that they'll be parents but I'm skeptical that they'll do anything other than continuing the floating timeline of the characters' ages into "current year".

I really can't imagine Beavis and Butthead working in 2020. As others have already said, they are very much a product of their times. Having grown up and watched their original run in the 90s, I can't imagine that formula actually working because B&B actually socialize with each other and the community around them. Gen Z are a bunch of shut ins always on their phones and shitposting on social media.

What would you have a reimagined B&B do? Make fun of Netflix originals? Spend their days on SnapChat or some shit? I honestly can't see it working without destroying the very soul of what makes them Beavis and Butthead. While I realize Mike Judge is a genius as what he does, this should be more of an original thing than just taking his most famous recreation and trying to update it to modern times. Star Wars tried that and look what happened (though you can squarely blame JJ Abrams and Disney for that).

The 2011 revival was alright and didn't compromise the integrity of the characters. Things weren't as outright retarded back then and the culture was lampoonable in the context of classic Beavis and Butthead. 2020 onwards though? No dice. I don't think it can work.
