is minecrafts update cycle really just
1: announce new features
2:delay/can most of them, usually because some tard on reddit made a post about how x thing is actually bad
3:release update with fraction of content and add some lore stuff theorists can chew on until next update.

Those portal things look cool but if they never do anything and just exist to be a tie in or tease for dungeons than thats cringe

They are literally owned by Microsoft, a multi-billion dollar corporation.
If they ask daddy Microsoft for the resources, they're getting the fucking resources, Microsoft would have to be retarded not to do that for the best selling game of all time.
I don't think it works like that. Microsoft only owns minecraft to get a piece of its profits. They pretty much leave Mojang to do their own thing.

Nah. The Wild update is the worse case of their update cycle and even then, the only things that they failed to deliver was the birch forest biome overhaul and fireflies.

It's quite funny how Terraria went from being considered a MC clone to it's own thing with way more content.

Deep Dark and Ancient Cities feel unfinished, the death compass isn't worth it since you can always just f3 and remember your coordinates.

Not that I don't agree with you on the loot in the Ancient cities, but counterpoint on the recovery compass:

In the event of your death, when would the average player have the debug menu open to memorize their coordinates?

Fair point, I feel like the compass should have been added earlier than this but still useful and I also agree with you when it comes to his coordinates point.

Now the real question is it truly even worth it? You have to walk and sneak around this hell whole all while there's a monster that can one shot you no matter what.

And it doesn't help that even if you find one of these the Ancient cities and got all of the shards then when you're on your way out there's a strong change that the Warden will come and face fuck you to death which will leave you without all your shit including the shards to the compass that will help get all that shit back.

There are two types of people going into the Deep Dark, those who are just starting and being able to get diamonds will be very useful at that point (sucks that it doesn't work on Warden) so losing all of your shit just wastes all the time you took sneaking around.

And if you're at the end game then the loot isn't really useful other then the shards but even still at that point getting the compass could be seen as more then it's worth especially if you keep dying trying to get it.

Any of you guys still playing older versions of the game? I've found that they've just added too much shit to MC over the years. Currently I'm playing 1.0.0 hardcore. It's very cozy.

I still have beta 1.7.3 installed with its original, albeit cracked, launcher on my Windows XP machine. I still play it time to time, as I have a pack.png seed survival world - every time I launch that version seems like going back to 2011. I agree, it's a very cozy experience.

Off topic, but does anybody here own the Switch (bedrock) version? Is it worth getting?

It was decent until they recently forced it to use Render Dragon so now performance is blowing ass.

Mojang uploaded this(the literawhos in the thumbnail is the sign)

And the reaction to this trashfire:

Maybe this is what they meant with the Wild Update because it is certainly wilder than the update.
lmfao Mojang cannot add firefly jars to the game while the modding community added them years ago along with an entire fucking dimension with full boss fights. Twilight Forest anyone?
OK, I got Bedrock for free since I paid for Java Edition and holy fuck right at the start, you cannot use swears in the world names and the entire UI is a fucking mess. Boy am I glad I didn't pay for this.

I'm most nostalgic of the Beta versions since I started playing somewhere around Beta 1.3_01 and have been modding Minecraft ever since. I even got a bunch of old mods saved, including the OG piston mod before it became a part of the game. Nowadays when I do play Minecraft it's modded 1.12.2, it's the last good version. Just add the 1.13 movement as a mod and you're good to go.

Honestly, Mojang needs to slow down on the updates.

Back with 1.13-1.16 the frequency of the updates was justified as it was a while since Minecraft got anything of note. They not only did a good job with the content they included in those updates, they even brought back interest in the game as well.

But with 1.17-1.19 their "Two updates a year" method is starting to become a detriment.

The cave & cliffs update or 1.17 was suppose to have everything announced at Minecraft Live (archeology, deep dark and the sculk, etc), but the scale of the update was way larger than what they could accomplish in the time frame they gave themselves. So they split parts of it into the future updates causing 1.18 to be the caves & cliffs sequel update and, even with that done, C&C still isn't complete to this day as archeology is still MIA.

1.19 was suppose to be a smaller update that gave us the sculk along with the ancient cites with a little something for the overworld's surface, but once again the fireflies and Birch forest revamp had to be pushed back because too much of their development time was dedicated to the sculk and ancient cities.

At this point, Mojang would be better off extending their development time to a year at least so that everything shown at MC Live can have equal attention and be delivered in a timely manner.

Also Minecraft Legends, a minecraft-themed RTS game, was announced today:

Haven't played for a few months due to lack of time, but when I do I just like to build stuff. Haven't downloaded the latest patch yet, and probably won't until I can update the resource pack that I use. I tend to agree that the updates are coming too often now - though some of the new additions have been really cool.

I've been seeing people saying the game looks like Trove.
It reminded me of the "Take Back the Night" music video by CaptainSparklez but if it got the Nether update.

Which is kind of interesting because before there were no Pillagers so they choose the Zombie Pigmen who had a connection to the Villagers with the cut Pigmen which might have also been a coincidence and just choose them for the video because they thought they were cool.

Either way it's neat how we've looped back around to where we really do have official Pigmen like from Take Back the Night even if the Villagers already have rivals now.

Also this isn't the only coincidental reference or similarity to Take Back the Night, there was one in Minecraft Dungeons as well.

I had to resort to playing earlier builds because my laptop can't run the latest versions, and as much as I want to upgade to a gaming PC, I don't have the financial capability to do that right now. I was playing 1.12.2, till I decided to reinstall Tropicraft (favorite mod). Currently playing the 1.15.2 build.
