With how faggy this MK game was and how pathetic the make the storymodes now I think the MK series is pretty much dead now. They just keep fucking up the characters by making them less interesting than CNN. The retarded SJW shit they put in MK11 and the fact they dont have any interesting direction to take it anymore. Newer characters suck, writing sucks, and they keep fucking rebooting it.
Newer characters or just characters that over take some random jobber ninja? I really don’t see the point of calling MK11 SJW shit still since most of the females got sexy skins. Also you should have known NRS can’t write anything if it can’t retread Tobias’s work.

Erron Black, and Tekada are good nu characters too.

I still play this due to the fact that I like the dial in combos and the slightly slower pace. The online community seems still alive, you can get a ranked game in about 30 seconds almost any time of day or night.

I always had a soft spot for MK. SF doesn’t really have satisfying combos and I don’t like the 360 ring in Tekken and I’m not a fan of the 3v3 games. Other fighting games people usually recommend are too niche and I don’t feel connected to the characters.

MK does have sexy skins for the female characters but you have to unlock them, that being said I’m not too upset about the work shit since they added the sexy stuff in there anyway. We’re never going to have “Ivy-esque” bikini armor skins anymore due to the shamefully politicized nature of gaming but at least they put in the boob window original costumes. small victories.

Basically, MK11 isn’t dead, by a long shot. The worst that can be said is that there’s no real forum presence but that’s because there are splintered character specific discords and since MK seemingly always gets passed up in large tournaments, you don’t see too many people talking about it. I wish people organized more amateur open tournaments, I think there’s a niche that can be financially exploited there but not too many people do it. I know there’s a semi-regular invite only Africa MK competition which is cool.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I unironically like a lot of the 3D era characters. I mean, Taven sucks, I liked bringing in characters from other realms and shit. Hell, I would say Shujinko has great potential as a villain with his whole "false chosen one" arc. But because so many people who like video games are addicted to nostalgia, anything that is not magically both new and old at the same time gets ignored. Not that there aren't shitty characters in the newer games (Kobra, Darrius, Taven) but there are a lot who are pretty neat.

How did it compare to the first one from the mid 90's?

Fuck, I mean I don't think either are going to be looked as great hallmarks of cinema, but I think both are honestly fun films made for fans of the series. The original is more campy and probably resonates more with 90's kids, but this one feels like a look back to that era with both the lens and freedom of a more adult audience, i.e. plenty of swearing and blood and some pretty on par fatalities I think to the video games. I don't think you can go wrong with the new one if you go in seeing it as something "made for the fans"

I think kano is one of my favorites in the new movie, as obnoxious as he is

I really hope Cole Young doesn’t make it into Mortal Kombat 11 if it gets a third Kombat Pack. He could take up the guest character spot, but I’d prefer to see Ash from The Evil Dead.
If he did, it would be the first NRS title since they started having DLC where I left the roster uneven.

that character is truly abysmal. I want Ash and Myers to complete the horror set started in MK9.

I got into watching MK10 tournaments for a while because it was very easy to understand what was going on(and as soon as I saw SonicFox I wanted someone, anyone, to beat him). Mortal Kombat have always been a little stiff, in MK10 that stiffness was very apparent in the sudden stops between combos and setups, for a casual that made it easy to understand the building blocks of how a character played.

The last good MK game was Armageddon.
Taven was a beast, I was sold on him on the coolness factor alone. I wish the remake/reboot era expanded on the 3D era, instead of doing the shit it did.

I really wish the Tarkatans weren't a jobber race, though.

I still will never forget the time that WB needed to get 21 Savage to do the theme song for one of the Mortal Kombat games:

Seems like it was made just yesterday.

Does anyone know what was the plans for any MK post Armaggedom? What I mean is, was it always part of the plan to soft reboot everything? Or was the case that they intended to keep the timeline going? I mean, lets face it, Shao Kahn suddenly turning out to having beat Blaze seems like a retcon that kind of ignores completely Taven and the Conquest story of Armaggedom since its endings implied that there would be more to come and apparently Taven would remain being a big player in whatever came next.

I also find hilarious how a good chunk of the 3D era characters are canonically dead already in the new timeline without making an appearance, with all their deaths happening in the comics. That was NTR's way of saying to not even bother bringing them up outside of the ocassional small NPC appearance during story mode and arcade endings.

I'm pretty sure the plan was always a reboot. As far as I remember, and I guess some more info could have came out in the past few years, but all anyone had to go on was that Ed Boon said in an interview they were scrapping everything and starting over, although this was directly related to questions about how the gameplay style would be for Mortal Kombat 8. He also stated that he wanted it to be even grittier and darker, based on him seeing video of the then new Gears of War at the time.

The only other info was some pre production art that came out.

This, of course, all fell apart when Midway was going broke and decided their hail mary was to make a crossover with DC to try and save the company.
