I really didn't know what people meant by toxic community until I played WT, and absolutely everyone playing that game is smug about something, even if it's something retarded as German tanks being "OP" or German players not knowing how to play. (Some are, but Rank I is shit and Rank II is just competitive).>not mentioning WoT refugees being smug how Gaijin is supossedly better then Wargaming "because they're not rigging like WhoreGayming"
To be fair, most matches in tank games are filled with mouth breathers and people who absolutely refuse to watch their flanks, so most people who have at least half a brain just don't want to waste time getting shot from every direction possible and dying pointlessly. I cant blame them for wanting to actually have fun and not get stuck in a meat grinder.I don't play too much online, but for me it would be WoT.
Played from beta onwards for a few years (or whenever gold ammo became super common). Worst bit for me was when the stat mods came out.
Suddenly every single match was just a shit fest of doomers and idiots. "Oh, we have more reds than them, might as well quit".
Also being purple got you singled out by both enemies (priority targeting) and allies (why can't you solo the enemy team?).
Rust is one of the few games where goofy stuff like creating a tribe full of pantless lunatics is entirely possible. At least there's one good thing to come of it. Well good if you have a dumb sense of humor.I think you'd be hard-pressed to find one meaner than Rust or anything that spins off of that concept, especially since those sorts of games have relatively persistent worlds where resource gathering takes a lot of time and effort, so you're heavily-incentivized to go and beat the crap out of someone else instead of doing all the hard work yourself. After someone spends a week building and fortifying a base, and filling it up with all of the loot they've been collecting, they tend to get a bit upset when you blow the doors off and take it all for yourself.
Fair enough. Still, nobody wants to hear you moaning about it. Just stop playing the game then.I really didn't know what people meant by toxic community until I played WT, and absolutely everyone playing that game is smug about something, even if it's something retarded as German tanks being "OP" or German players not knowing how to play. Fair, I just really don't have anywhere to go, there's not much alternatives you know.Fair enough. Still, nobody wants to hear you moaning about it. Just stop playing the game then.
Maybe that behavior died down, but it was extremely rampant when stat mods 1st became popular.
Non surprisingly, the biggest shit talkers we're usually only "average".
Yeah, I hear ya. I really enjoyed my WoT times. I think my favorite was playing the KV1S before it was the go to choice. Aka back when the KV3 was still a tier 6 HT.Fair, I just really don't have anywhere to go, there's not much alternatives you know.
Just about every MMO does.Honestly the WoT community kind of deserves Wargaming now that I think about it
It's because you get banned for that. That's why I brought up any mods related to WT being garbage (including reddit jannies). Now I just screw around in War Thunder arcade once in a while, that's gone down the shitter too. There's less shit talking (actually, almost no chat whatsoever in-match), and I don't do forums/community stuff in games anyways.
You reminded me how much I used to derp around in the then tier 6 KV-3, and it was so much goddamned fun.Yeah, I hear ya. I really enjoyed my WoT times. I think my favorite was playing the KV1S before it was the go to choice. Aka back when the KV3 was still a tier 6 HT.
Then it moved up and suddenly everyone realized how good the KV1S was, lol.

Really, really wish I could go back in time to beta WoT. I miss those days.
Say the magic words "I don't like tank controls" and they get a nuclear meltdown.Maybe nowhere near "most toxic", but I'd like to throw Resident Evil into the ring for everyone's consideration given how aggressively retarded most fans are.
You have the obvious things like the "purist" vs "modern" wars (i.e., "RESIDENT EVIL WAS RUINED BECAUSE OF 4, CAPCOM NEEDS TO GO BACK", funnily enough a lot of those same people will go to bat for RE7 just because it gave them a few good first person spooks and had a few puzzles despite it being a relatively decent game at best and mediocre at worst), then you have a lot of the "newer" fans who hopped on board the train because of RE2 Remake, and these are the ones you'll be hearing a lot of dumb SJW troon stuff from in my experience. I've also noticed there's been a lot of dumb, echo chamber type shit that's gone on because "popular" video creator or streamer said something, so it must be true (usually in the cases people like TheSphereHunter and CarcinogenSDA).
Maybe not overtly bad, but boy is there a lot of spergery over a series that was originally a b-movie style, almost tongue-in-cheek, campy "horror" game.
EDIT: Just now considered this after finishing typing all that out, but phone gamers/gacha gamers can be pretty fucking "toxic" as well. Imagine having a superiority complex over having sunk hundreds, maybe thousands, of dollars for a .png of an anime girl. Also imagine getting completely assblasted over the fact that someone else hasn't sunk as many hours grinding out low drop rate resources in a phone game as you have.
Hell, there's a good number of them that'll have a meltdown if you just say you like RE4.Say the magic words "I don't like tank controls" and they get a nuclear meltdown.
I think of all the MMOs I've ever played, FFXIV's is by far the most sociopathic. What you described is nothing compared to the shit I've seen; open degeneracy like necrophilia (I have picture proof of a 'survey' a bar customer can fill out that displays their kinks and on there are beastiality and necrophilia and they had a 'hardcore' tab where those same kinks were displayed in pictures), people intentionally picking fights so they can get the GMs involved and ban the guy they picked a fight with, intentionally wiping groups baiting a person into swearing or yelling at them so they can report, people fucking up the housing system intentionally by relocating plots so they can set the timer on them every time a new ward pops up for no reason, I could go all day about the modding community not being able to hide their degeneracy behind mature content filters on twitter meaning minors can easily by accident view these inappropriate pictures, the party finder... is the fucking party finder, people will straight up report you if you stand on top of them even if by accident without your knowledge (spawning out of dungeon), I could go all day. It's crazy how screwed up the community is. Granted I've been on the Crystal data center all my time spent on the game, so I don't know what Aether or Primal's like.Final Fantasy XIV is pretty bad.
Places like Reddit will claim that the game has one of the least toxic and most welcoming communities. But in reality, if you criticize the game in any way, you get shot down very hard. While you will rarely run into toxicity in the game itself due to Square Enix's draconian Terms of Service, the Styx runs deep on 3rd party services like Discord. Stalking, bullying, 3rd party discord mods running channels required to enjoy certain parts of the game, nothing is off the table.
Raiding communities for the game like The Balance Discord have attracted crazy trannies and are run by crazy trannies. They're allowed to stalk players, make false accusations, trash talk in the DMs. But you are not allowed to call them "retarded" because it's "ableism". I wish I was making this shit up, but it's something that was added to their rules. There's weird shit going on in their private discord channels where it seems to me like they groom teenagers into transgenderism, and enable each other's loser lifestyles.
The raiding community itself has a crazy fixation on mathematical efficiency to an autistic level. Players use third party tools and a third party website known as fflogs to create competitive percentile rankings on the internet. If you're not doing the most "optimal rotation", you're griefing. I've run raid groups for the past few raid tiers and in every single one of them, I had to deal with at least one player who sucks at doing the basics on their class, but will whine endlessly about how their parse is bad because the internet is bad/their gear isn't good enough/it's the strat that isn't uptime enough/they were playing with a blindfold.
I had to draft up a bunch of strategies this tier to "maximize uptime" so melee players wouldn't cry too much about it, but it overall makes progression slower and doesn't produce results. The players care too much about the destination (Having an inflated log on a third party leaderboard only discord autists care about) versus the journey (Actually getting better at the game and being more consistent at doing the content).
I never understood the appeal of Twitch. Every single time I dealt with a small streamer, they were a sycophant only interested in "making friends" who watch their stream religiously. And every single time I tried watching a bigger streamer, it's mired by a retarded chat and the streamer thanking someone for money every 3 minutes.
What do they think of Garden Warfare? This may be a bit ironic but Plants vs. Zombies probably has one of the most toxic fanbases out there. They are nostalgia tards, gatekeepers, and purists. Their subreddit is an echo chamber of mentally disabled people who repeat the same "EA bad, popcap good, PvZ2 bad." Like a broken fucking record. If you have any differing opinion from them they will explain why you aren't a real fan and how "plants vs zombies 2 is slowly destroying the gaming industry like a parasite."
Agreed, from what I've seen. The Garden Warfare fandom seems to be significantly healthier and pretty much everyone has a positive opinion on it. PvZ heroes on the other hand...What do they think of Garden Warfare?
That's one of the friendliest communities I've ever witnessed. By friendly, I mean "quiet." They just keep it moving.
I've dealt with people trying to bait me into getting reported on Party Finder and in general. I usually end up reporting them and they seethe on discord about how they get warned/banned.I think of all the MMOs I've ever played, FFXIV's is by far the most sociopathic. To be fair, I don't think it's exclusive to FFXIV. Powergamers ruin everything they touch.Raiding communities for the game like The Balance Discord have attracted crazy trannies and are run by crazy trannies.
