NeoGAF & ResetERA - The Hilarious N̶e̶v̶e̶r̶e̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ Splintering "Gaming" Forum Circus

Yes, games like Bioshock and Metal Gear Solid exist but they aren't "all games". Not everything is an allegory for some political conflict and that's an extremely limited way to look at art.
The most annoying reply I've ever heard to a very well-reasoned take like this is that games that aren't political, either accidentally or deliberately, aren't art.

The one I hear a lot is "By trying to be 'apolitical', that means you support the status quo" which has all kind of fun implications in it. Not just the low-hanging fruit of assuming a political message has to be made, there's also the fact that's flimsy reasoning that can be used to accuse any art of support every atrocity they fail to address. The focus shifts from entertainment to a focus on some eternal struggle and I don't think it's a stretch to say political activism took away their ability to relax.

They confuse their own perspective as "inherent" to what they're looking at.
And you have just described the problem with indoctrinated zealots of all stripes. One type of lens, glued directly to the eyeballs. This is the secret to ResetEra's insanity.

The problem basically boils down to a pseudo-intellectual slogan being treated as gospel. It sounds smart and introspective to say "Art is inherently political" but you start noticing cracks as you define "inherent". They confuse their own perspective as "inherent" to what they're looking at. The usual handwave for that is "but humans are biased/political by nature" or "Those are just politics you agree with" which is pretty closeminded and aburd that they can't imagine concepts beyond themselves.

For me art is anything that represents the human spirit as a whole. I mean the problem with "All art is inherently political" is that like you said it ignore all other great works of art that have nothing to do with politics whatsoever.

Good art as I see it can represent the best and the worst of humanity in general. There's art of the good times (such as times of peace), there's art of the bad times (such as times of a disaster), there's obscene art that may be offensive to some but does show an actual reality of things, to prove a point, or just to be edgy (whether this art is crude, pornographic, or just offensive in some way), there's art that tells a really good story whether it be about a hero in an epic or whatnot (such as The Odyssey), there's art that shows everyday life of normal people doing normal things (such as people going fishing or camping in the woods), there's art that tell the great tales from the many of the major religions form around the world (such as a lot of the religious art in many old cathedrals and churches or other places of worship), there's art that shows the triumph of the human spirit (such as statues dedicated to people that have done great things), and then there is art where the artist does a really badass piece of art just so they can show off to show everyone else that they can (such as a lot of art from the Renaissance period), and the list goes on

If you want my opinion of what I think is bad art, my definition of bad art is anything that is dictated by some form of authoritarian authority or some other type of moral busybody that tells the artist what they want to see made from them to push some bullshit authoritarian ideology rather than giving the artist the freedom and the right to express themselves as they want to. A good example of this is the old Socialist Realism art from the Soviet Union that tried to paint a picture perfect image of what life was in the Soviet Union when in reality life in the old USSR was a living Hell for many.

The way I see it, I think that the speds over at ResetEra have poor taste in art because they let their authoritarian beliefs dictate how they want things to be as they see fit rather than let the artist express what they want to create for people to see. Simply put, people and groups like those over at ResetEra only want to see their view of the world be forced on anyone and reject anything that contradicts their fragile view of the world if they were to ever be given this kind of position of power to make this happen in real life. Just another reason why these losers can't make anything good anyway in the long run.

Conspiracy Theories
Why else would this haggart-looking obese Cal-Arts acolyte (who despite looking overfed still maintains the sickly pallor of malnourishment), find himself attacking steam for "muh trading gards" while glossing over things like cloudsaves, workshop etc. etc. and proclaim Tencent as the most moral platform ever concieved by man?

I'm just gonna apply Occam's Hanlon's razor and attribute to stupidity instead of malice. Enough stupidity to fill an Olympic swimming pool, perhaps, but stupidity nonetheless.

Being exclusive to Epic basically does mean the PC release gets delayed a year, judging by the sales numbers for all the Epic exclusives. What's that, you say? We don't have any sales numbers? Right you are, and that's how we know they're terrible. Companies brag about big sales numbers. The only figure that's been boasted has been "2.5x the sales of the previous game" for Metro Exodus, a figure that is A) relative, B) missing methodology (all sales? just PC sales? which stores?), and C) missing basic context such as "the previous game actually didn't sell very well in the first place". But hey, this is ResetEra, where no one is allowed to express anything in a remotely snarky manner unless it's something that agrees with the hivemind. God forbid actual PC gamers have a less than charitable opinion of a store that has proclaimed its intent to curate for the best while rejecting Assault Android Cactus (87/100 Metacritic) and signing an exclusivity deal for Roller Coaster Tycoon Adventures (57/100 Metacritic).

Incidentally here's the developer of Assault Android Cactus having his former optimism for EGS rudely shattered by Epic:

Amazing how whenever folks discuss ResetEra for any protracted period of time on ANY specific subject, from internal politics to witch hunting to culture policing to censorship and retconning of inconvinient facts, it almost always comes back to the central theme of "this is like a bunch of angry retards went and recreated the USSR at its totalitarian and stalnist worst as an autistic internet forum"

Probably the only real difference between the USSR and ResetEra is that at least the dictatorship of the old Soviet Union was at least competent and did posed as a threat to the world at one point.

These losers couldn't run a government even if they were given one to them on a silver platter and they would probably end up killing each other and eat each other alive if you put them on a deserted island far away from any nearby civilization. You put them on an island, their paradise turns into something out of Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and then you come back to the island a month later and you see them all dead and everything is in ruin as far as the eye can see.

This is why I almost wonder if this is some social experiment or something. It makes no sense that something this insanely run even exists much less still has traffic. What the fuck is Isama Fukui doing with this shit? Is there an ultimate goal or is it some kind of joke just to see how far you can troll a bunch of mentally ill troons?

I like to see this more as an autistic gladiator fight.

We're the spectators in the Colosseum and they're the autistic gladiators showing up to give us an entertaining show as we watch them tear each other apart in the most autistic manner possible.

Time to ban Sega/Atlus from this forum like known terrorist PDP and white nationalist Colin Moriarty!

He isn't wrong. Every week there is a new outrage campaign from Resetera that pretty much no one outside of the forum and a few of the usual blue checkmark games journalists cares about.

It certainly triggers the fuck out of them to have their faces rubbed in something obvious to anyone who isn't a mindless REEEEE cultist.

I feel bad for Sega.

I'm sure the people that work for the company are well meaning people but it's too bad that they have to deal these kinds of people and a certain manchild that once pepper sprayed a Gamestop employee everyday.

So this topic got bumped and it is an absolute goldmine. Above Resetera wants to ban Atlus/Sega for some light-hearted culture jokes you'll find most gay people laugh at.

Then we get to the intersectionality war for the progressives which seems to be Islam ranks the highest. No matter what regressive Islam brings to a culture, it has to be defended and accepted.

So we see the gayest and highest troon population forum on the internet, Resetera, being very quiet about this topic or trying to find a way to say #NotAllMuslims.

The difference between Conservative Catholics and Christians and Conservative Muslims is the latter usually always force their way, either through violence or through knowing they can force the West to bend the knee out of fear of being called "Islamophobic". "You don't support us? You're Islamophobic!"

You get thinking like this that immediately tries to say Islam is the real victim, "it needs protection", whilst downplaying the fact Christians are usually very tolerant, even if they disagree with you. They're not going to be violent or force their views, just share their opinions on Facebook or Twitter.

The whole topic is very careful to just say "Homophobic parents!", whereas if this was a mob of Christians, it would be "Fuck Christianity, these Christian homophobes!".

?

Islam is the second largest religion, and probably the most monolithic. Especially when people disagree on what Christian is, such as Mormons and the Amish and Jehovah's Witnesses and probably other sects I can't think of.
