NeoGAF & ResetERA - The Hilarious N̶e̶v̶e̶r̶e̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ Splintering "Gaming" Forum Circus

I think the current forum hierarchy for video games and developers giving a shit are, in order: reddit > 4chan > RPGnet >>> IGN >>>>>>>>>>> NeoGAF >>>> ResetEra. Honorable mention to twitter, which is same rank as reddit.

Above those are (in order of dev population) Talking Time/HG101/Datacrystal, all of which have near-zero wokeness due to the average poster ages skewing much higher than any of the others. They’re the forums that the ‘i have written and released games’ people shitpost on as opposed to ‘I am going to write and release games’ people.

I definitely know at least a few verified developers, some from BioWare I think, hang out on Era. I knew Minecraft had a /v/ shout out but I didn't know Risk of Rain and Stardew Valley's devs went there for feedback. I only remember the Risk of Rain and EYE threads being fairly popular before the board went to complete shit. I've only just started browsing /v/ again after a two year off period.
Risk of Rain is actually made by a /v/ poster, who also posted in the /agdg/ threads early in development. Semi-related, some of the aggy-daggy poster's games have ended up being featured by prominent yotubers like Dunkey or outlets like RPS(the guy to look out for right now is the Junji Ito card game dev, who's a polish med student)

Ree may have won their campaign for censorship against Catherine Full Body.

That does not surprise me, so many devs and people involved in game development use ResetERA for some reason and Japanese devs use to gauge how Americans feel about the game. Even Yoko Taro used posts from there to discuss audience reactions to his games at a dev conference.

:optimistic:Considering they are worried if they are "successful", hopefully they keep the game as accurate as possible with some small change like not naming it the best ending. I hate cut content.

WARNING: possible Halo franchise spoilers

No one's given a shit about /v/ for years now, the only game that one could say was tied to /v/ is Yandere Simulator, but that was just the developer shilling it and getting laughed out of the park. Only remotely successful game (well, "game") that's come out of 4chan is Katawa Shoujo, and it left 4chan fairly soon into development. It also wasn't a /v/ thing. I wouldn't be surprised if a few almost certainly non-woke developers browse there casually but they almost certainly don't care what the contrarians that inhabit /v/ think. Reddit, and the cozying up to mainstream sites, outside of Waypoint, are definitely high up there, but I think you're putting REEEEra a bit too low. There are a couple woke developers hanging around there. BioWare almost certainly gets all their ideas from them. Twitter is the real king, game developers almost exclusively hang out there and jerk themselves off to their carefully curated list of yes men rather than venturing further. Half the time only CMs hang out on reddit, the BFV and Battlefront 2 shitshows almost certainly scared developers away.
Then please explain all those ubi shills that always pop up when they are about to release a new shitty game

I love Halo, but Frank O'Connor's a douche. Get the fuck out of here with that "one side's literally evil" nonsense.

Halo should have died when Bungie bailed. 343 is just the leftover trash Microsoft could scrounge together who are so incompetent they even managed to fuck up something as simple as the MCC.

The sooner the franchise and studio die, the better.

I love Bungie's Halo, I don't love 343's Halo one bit. They are fucking up the franchise beyond repair.

Would it be comparable to what 989 Studios did to Twisted Metal and Jet Moto after getting the right from Singletrac (Eventually became Incognito got the rights back and put out TM:Black and a few other ones.)

Uh I guess? I'm not really a racing/vehicular game guy.

I think the jist of what I'm getting at is did they take a lot of the fun neat things that everybody loved, get rid of them and then try make everything that was "arcade-like" and make it "realistic". Also, needlessly adding Rob Zombie to the game as an actual playable character.

Actually 343's been doing the opposite regarding the art style of Halo. With Bungie the setting/characters/guns/vehicles all felt grounded yet Sci-Fi-ish, now with 343 the Spartans look like Power Rangers, Marines look like paintball gunners, and the once sleek and graceful Elites now look clumsy and inelegant.

As for taking out the things everyone loved, yes, they have absolutely done that. I could get into all the ways they're screwing with the plot, lore and characters but ultimately what matters is that Halo 4 and 5 are just not fun to play at all.

Newly transitioned person (trainwreck) demonstrates how good they are at getting offended, this time it's the hit show from the 90s, Friends!

Always curious to see how long it will take before a mod adds the usual "downplaying concerns about whateverphobia will result in ban" bullshit on top of the thread.

New guy alert. Man your battlestations. (I've slowly read my way from page 1 to here before bothering to speak up; hope that qualifies as sufficient lurking.)

This thread almost feels like home. Lot of history here I remember quite well from the Autism Holy War, and a face or two as well. (GethN7, you are still a legend, and I wish I'd had the presence of mind to apply politeness to problems as ruthlessly as you did during the GamerGate days.)

Minor anecdote to add to ResetEra's treatment of Catherine: Full Body. Niche Gamer took their shitty nontroversy to task, but painted the outrage as "manufactured".

I personally found out (via arguing with friends) that it's not manufactured, at least not entirely. Some people absorb the party line and regurgitate it as gospel. To them, it's not manufactured at all. They genuinely believe it. And they have a "source" for their position -- the Catherine wiki.

The notable part here: In the ending where Catherine rewrites history, history is altered so that Erica never transitioned.

As Niche Gamer pointed out: In the original Catherine release timeline, Vincent is 32, putting the events of that story 14 years or so after they graduate high school. This means Eric could still transition after this ending...

That's some nice subtle fact-twisting the wiki has there, and of course, it's slung around by Era-goers uncritically without any closer examination. The fact that time has been rewound is flat-out ignored, the fact that Erica would necessarily have been pre-op at some point is similarly discarded, and the closing hint from Eric himself that the transition will happen down the line is treated as if it doesn't exist. Damn that pesky reality.

(For the debunk of the more general "the devs have been horribly problematic for a long time" statements, check out the stellar work @Ctrl+Alt+Rt did a few pages ago.)
