New Gnome Code of Conduct - It's pretty bad tbh

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I really don't understand the systemd hate other than "how dare you make my OS usable" or being a meme made up by trannies who are overly obsessed with the ancient unix concept that other people blindly follow.
UNIX is dead, long dead, Linux and systemd are dominating because they aren't Unix, it's a unique OS with it's own API layer and systemd takes full advantage of it to offer a robust service management experience. And developers are more than happy to make use of systemd because it actually makes life easier for everyone who isn't some autist arch user watching lain in his terminal.

It's Redhat shovelware that creates its own problems while trying to solve non-problems. UNIX isn't dead, it's just morphed a lot. BSD is essentially UNIX, and it's at the heart of PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Mac OS-X, and of course all of the BSD variants (Free, Open, Net, Dragonfly). Linux is definitely more prevalent, but UNIX is still alive.

SerenityOS
Thank you for introducing me to this. This is pretty epic.
It's got basically everything you need out of the box and it's all BSD. Even the best *BSD, Haiku, HelenOS or whatever else you wanna throw doesn't come with this much useful stuff out of the box.

...pretty wierd that they use C++ instead of C though.

Your examples accumulate to just being pure firmware, except macOS in which case it has it's own API layer such as Cocoa and systemd-like service manager over top of it to completely obscure Unix just as Linux does.

This is unsurprising, I've seen a lot of code of conducts like this, I think it's becoming the default if you search on GitHub for something to copy paste to your project.

Nobody has really liked GNOME since version 3 came out and completely changed the paradigm, although it was still preferred over Ubuntu's in-house DE before it was given up.

KDE, XFCE, LXDE, openbox, i3, awm are all good alternatives. If you want stability, use Debian. If you want bleeding edge, use Arch. There's no point in using something else for consumer-use except to just try out.

Contribute to these projects, join their forums and IRC channels. Keep them alive and show there's interest in good software, not good idpol.

Linux Mint is pretty great for desktop use. We have them to thank for forking Gnome 2/3 into Cinnamon/MATE, iirc. That's my desktop distro of choice. It's basically Ubuntu that's been de-gayed a bit. Very easy to get started with, and the community is helpful without sperging.

Can't use Mint because they name their versions after women

I'm not a mac fag but MacOS is the most popular UNIX-certified OS out there, and by extension, iOS. UNIX is hardly dead. They got a lot of ideas right, that's why it still exists and its ideology still drives all the computers (read: servers) that make the internet and everything connected to it work.

Edit: also, Ubuntu's and Debian's distro names are way gayer than the girl names Mint uses, imo.
To be fair, you may have just been trolling. In which case, well played.

the Unix-certified thing is just a branding thing you have to pay for. Apple paid for it because they wanted to enter the government market where they were "supposed" to use POSIX-compliant OSes, even though they ended up going all Windows. UNIX is nothing more than a brand name being passed around by a few corporations exactly like OS/2.

I still have a FreeBSD laptop that I use for when I just want to play around with code. If I get inspired, I'll bring it over to Linux.

The thing with BSD is that everything you need is right there. For development purposes it all comes "out of the box" without needing to install much else. The drivers are lacking compared to Linux, but if you have a system (laptop, old desktop, or even a spare server) available for experimentation, give it a try.

I wonder if the idiot who wrote that CoCo has any idea that not only is a good chunk of it entirely unenforceable by law but that it would more than likely get them sued if they pissed the wrong person off with their racial shit and that person decided to make an issue of it. No matter how woke these morons are, doing stuff like this is just asking for trouble. But then again woke idiots get off on pushing stupid shit on people and trying to play power games with their oppression points and thinking they are untouchable while they do it, because they think that either everyone is too afraid to call them on it and do something about it or that they can intimidate/threaten/mob harass/cancel anyone who has enough balls to make an issue of it. Its a cult where you are both an eternal victim while also believing yourself to have power over people through manipulation and intimidation like this. It really tells you alot about the kinds of people that buy into it. It really isn't all that different from the mentality of the party in 1984

That said, sooner or later some idiot or company pushing these kinds of CoC's is going to push just a little too far on someone and start a shitstorm to backfire on their own asses because of it. It'll be real interesting to see their reaction when that inevitably happens

Coders are well over 90% male. By pushing out the majority of the real experts, Gnome is going to become even worse than it is now... which means that it will reach theoretical levels of failure.

All I know is, the perfect balance between usefulness and autistic perfectionism in my estimation is KDE.

KDE is nice, but the more time you spend in the *nix universe, the more autism and OCD you will pick up by proxy. You'll notice how you get more aroused by the fewer lines of code required. You'll run top with all of the various environments and get curious. "Can I lower that used ram number, can I reduce those CPU cycles to cut down on my electric bill?" These questions will eat at your soul and make you look towards more elegant solutions.

Or you just say "Fuck it" and use what you like.

If you can make software that uses less Memory and is less CPU intensive that's a good thing. Its like all these front-end developers are now calling themselves desktop developers because they embedded their shitty React web-app in Electron which uses way too much memory and JavaScript is accident prone.

Computers are getting faster but software developers are getting lazier and stupider.

This is something that is a pet peeve of mine. While computers are getting faster, bloat is increasing, It now takes more time to build chromium from source than it does Libreoffice. A fucking browser now is more bloated than an entire office suite.
