So being the definition of 'friends' is psychologically damaging now...
I'm not about to say that there are guys and gals who are kind to people and that shit is taken advantage of, though that is not a gender-specific issue. There are people who will use you for the favors you do for them because you two are friends. And yeah, it sucks, but the way to stop that? Find new friends.Real talk though? Using people for sex isn't so awful that it warrants being labelled as "psychologically damaging" either (and it's not a gender specific issue). Most of the time people will get over it, and it's one of those things you wise up about after it happens. You live and you learn. Hookups and relationships are no different in that respect. If you keep getting into a situation where people are using you for this or that, maybe it's time to look in the mirror a little; most people can smell gullibility and/or vulnerability from a mile off.
People who victimise themselves to an insane degree about either of those things that fedoraphiliac mentioned are slightly autistic, considering that it's a non-issue and the only thing we learn from it is that the other person, who is either using your kindness or using you for sex, is an asshole to be avoided and you should probably find other people to spend time with.

I mean, if both parties truly think they're just friends and of an age where Facebook is important, I can see how it'd pass as "How about we line it all up and take a picture?". Not so much if he's panting and licking his lips.
This is what people fail to see in "loser" main characters; they always have a hobby. It cracks when that hobby is anime and the viewer goes "oh that's me, i can be quirky!", cus regardless, they still have quirky impulses and often act shy or whatever. Hell, they ignore advances from girls in favor of their hobby. Of course the female characters are written to be soaking wet, but imagine a manga without a plot based in the loser's interests. "He wants to fall in love but offers nothing". Dead by page 8.
