Objectively good games you can't get into

Never got into most RPGs, like the elder scrolls series or fallout. I tried playing fallout a bit and just did not enjoy it. I could not bring myself to enjoy playing Bioshock either.

Near any beloved strategy game, like Starcraft, Civilization, Tropico or SimCity.
I managed to get into both Starcraft and Civilization. I can't play starcraft in any pvp capacity, so I only play the PVE modes (sc2 coop/arcade). Civilization (only played 5) was only fun when playing with friends, and even then I would always be behind them. Was never good at either but it was at least kind of fun. Stellaris is a particular strategy game I don't like, no matter what I do I always somehow minmax incorrectly and end up falling behind, even if I have a big advantage at the start. Can't even beat the AI alone. Did not manage to get into any other strategy games, they always felt too overwhelming.

Most fighting games because I literally have 0 dexterity
Never got more than button mashing into these games. Can't keep track of all the combos, nor execute them fast enough.

May be too general but horror games. Love horror movies but unless it's the quality of a Resident Evil 4 or Silent Hill 2 I just can't get into horror games. Mostly comes down to not liking the gameplay. Even at the time hated the RE tank control style and modern day Outcast/Amnesia style doesn't click either.

Any of the Souls games. I understand the need to "git gud" but the game is so fucking jank and "gitting gud" is just rote memorization of attack timings.

Witcher 2 and 3. The combat is "Souls-lite" and I feel like I have no control over any of my swings. The story is passable but combat is just so bad I can't even.

Try watch someone how had experience playing the game with mods and see what they use. Some mods like rimHud are almost essential to the game.
I figured out how to play, just as I figured out the rules of feng shui for cultivation simulator. I just lack the autism to keep at it.

For me it's Nintendo's motion controlled games; mainly Mario Galaxy 1&2 , Metroid Prime 3, and Skyward Sword. They never clicked with me, and I'm even having a difficult time with the Switch version of Mario Galaxy 1.
I'll grant you the other games and I'll even say that Metroid Prime 3 was a middling Metroid Prime game, but it wasn't because of the controls in my opinion. I would suggest that the Metroid Prime variant of motion controls represent some of the best FPS controls ever created second only to the mouse and keyboard. They were absolutely phenomenal and completely reinvigorated console FPS controls, bringing them to a state of near-parity with PCs.

Metroid Prime Trilogy with MP3's controls applied to all three games is the definitive way to play.

Fallout 3/NV have their redeeming merits, but the dilapidation and ruin inherent to the environments just come off as insanely ugly and repetitive to me. I can't bring myself to revisit those games because of them. The change of scenery in Honest Hearts was much appreciated though.

Yeah, I think we might be among the few who are concerned about returning to a more traditional control scheme with Prime 4 should that ever come out.

I might have to give it a second chance, then. I had a pretty physically demanding job at the time, and I got it the same time as BioShock. When I got home, I wanted to play a shooter that required as little movement as possible, ya know?

On the topic of Metroid Prime and MP3 in particular; while Metroid Prime 3 had its issues, the one thing it got right was the Dark Samus final fight.

This shit is off the hook. It's a great boss fight and in most other games a lot of the stuff in this fight would be a cut scene.
How dare you spoil a game over a decade old that I had no intention of replaying until 20 minutes ago at most!?

Ah you'll fight the same fight with fewer colors in Metroid Prime 2.

Even the music is the same. Actually that's another one of my favorite things about Metroid Prime: the way the music evolves. Check this out:

Metroid Prime 2 Dark Samus Fight

Metroid Prime 3 Dark Samus Fight

This kind of stuff is all over the series. Excellent OST by the way. Good driving music.

Final Fantasy 7. I've tried 3 or 4 times now but never make it past disc 1.

Slay the Spire is kinda dumb in that the starter character, the Ironclad, is way trickier to build for than the other characters. I struggled a lot until I had the Silent unlocked, and then the game became much easier.

The Silent was the worst for me. They may have buffed her in the updates but back in the beta every act 3 boss would counter her if you went poison. Time Eater debuffs all the stacks after healing. Donut and Deca are two targets each having a few status blocks. Awakened was the only one where poison was decent. That is a 1/3 chance of poison not being helpful. I felt AoE mixed with drawing was the only option for her.

The Ironclad on the other hand was super easy. Stack strength and kill bosses in a single turn. Runs were way faster too.
Slay the Spire.

Man, I've tried. I have 50-odd hours into it, I've watched "how to git gud" videos, and I still can't make it past A1. It's just one of those games I feel like my brain isn't capable of understanding. And it's not necessarily the genre. I enjoy and am reasonably competent at (say) Monster Train. But something about Slay the Spire just doesn't work for me.

If you are nearing the end of a battle encounter but know you could of taken less damage doing something else you can hit escape and select exit to return to the title menu. Continuing will reset you back to the start of the encounter. This also works with some ? rooms. Gambling on the Knight turns into assured profit.

The entire Witcher series. Mostly because Geralt always came across to me as someone's cool, edgy, dark, Gary Stu OC who has all the dark powers and is such a tortured soul, morally grey antihero, but he still fucks bitches left and right, and everyone seems to react like it's such mature, deep storytelling as a result.

Dragon Age as a series as well, for similar reasons (albeit not entirely centered around a single character like in The Witcher's case, more just the general atmosphere of "moral ambiguity exists and everyone fucks, this is what makes up MATURE and DEEP storytelling FOR ADULTS"). But also because Origins filled me with the unshakable feeling that I was basically playing Knights of the Old Republic but in a high fantasy medieval setting instead.

You should read the novels if you think Geralt is edgy in the games. In the books he's almost Cold Steel "heh nothing personal kid" tier.

Oh, I played Prime 1 and 2 and loved them. The sound design and atmosphere and the way they took the Metroidvania genre (duh- it's in the title) and applied the same sense of exploration and discovery to 3D was just perfect. The Wii's motion controls were too much of a gimmick for me, and just too not quite on point for the time. If the motion controls are as good as you say they are, I've got my fingers crossed for the rumored Switch port.

That's... a peculiar choice of examples. One's recognized as perhaps the best horror game ever and the other is a horror game as directed by an 8 year old.

Have you tried one of the ENBs that unfuck the green & rawhide color filters, respectively? They really help a lot. Old World Blues also had a pretty unique aesthetic iirc.

Post the games that you respect but can't bring yourself to actually enjoy, try as you might.
SimCity 4 is my game. Something about managing a city just gets tedious very quickly. NAM was supposed to fix that but all it did was add 20 different flavours of bike interchange.
Strategy games like the Hearts of Iron series or those turn based rpg's like final fantasy. Similar to your problem with simcity, they just feel too tedious to really get into. Personally I play games to really get invested in the story & I find the minutia of managing a squad or monitoring your state a little too distracting from whatever story may be taking place. Maybe I'm just not exceptional enough to really manage both without one taking from the other, if that makes any sense.
