Objectively good games you can't get into

Witcher 3. After Witchers 1 and 2 I just don't care anymore.

Dark Souls. I get the appeal, but it's not my cup of tea.

GTA V. I get that each character is supposed to have a story arc but I just found them all unlikable and intolerable.
Would you mind elaborating on what it is about Witcher 3 that didn't appeal to you?, I've noticed it's very hit & miss with fans of the genre. Personally I consider it my pick for goty bc it has such an extensive, yet concise story & excellent world building.

Isometric RPG's. The view is a pain to deal with, the maps feel like a slog to go through since you're clicking and double-clicking all over the place, and the combat tends to be horribly uninteresting. Yes, the stories tend to be good, but I can't suffer through the gameplay to get to them.

Dragon Age: Origins. The world building and character writing is absolutely superb. Everyone and everything is written with impeccable detail; BioWare spent literal years crafting everything and it shows. I can't think of many games that have such a richly detailed world that wasn't already based off pre-existing material. I could spend hours just conversing with my party because they feel like actual people.

I can't get into it though. Firstly, I can't stand the combat. It's an utter clusterfuck. There's so much shit happening onscreen at once that I get lost in the noise so when I die I have no idea how it happened. KOTOR had the same issue, but at least there the screen wasn't so cluttered that I couldn't tell what the hell was happening. And even when it works it's a complete slog. That lighthouse at the beginning was pain and almost made me stop playing entirely.

Secondly, what did make me stop playing was the affection system. Party members have their own affection ratings which change based on your responses while conversing with them or your actions during the story. I just plain hate dealing with this. I'm a very neurotic RPG player; I don't make a choice unless I know exactly what happens, but the party member butting in and bitching about something I'm doing is something that really rubs me the wrong way. It's a cool idea on paper because there are way too many RPGs where party members will stick with you even when you do everything in your power to piss them off, since here they will actually leave if you make them angry enough, but in practice it irritates the shit out of me and I'd much rather not deal with it.

I'm playing 'Beyond good and Evil' and it just isn't working for me. I like the world but just not the overall aesthetic.

I'm still struggling with trying to understand Persona 1/2 and finding a foothold in the Shin Megami Tensei series as well. Many people talk about how notoriously difficult and good the SMT games are, but I just either don't have the interest to get started, or really know where to start because of how vast it is.

The Legned of Zelda series.

I've tried a lot of the games, but I never got very far into most of them. Even Breath of the Wild, which was described to me as a Zelda game for people that don't care for Zelda games, wasn't my cup of tea.

The only one I actually got more than a few hours into was Ocarina of Time (I played the 3DS version). I was maybe 3/4's of the way through, but then other games came out and just forgot about it.

Same; I only recently got into Persona (beat 5R and 3Portable), but I actually tried SMT 4 a while ago because a friend let me borrow his copy. I really wanted to get further than I did, but after a while, I started losing interest.

I'll admit it, I don't like Doom Eternal. Mostly the platforming sections, yeah yeah I'm sure you've heard that a thousand times. But holy heck I can only Space-Space-Shift-Shift so many times in a level before it gets stale. Plus in some places if you fuck up and fall in an earlier part of the level it'll start respawning you there. Also the arcadey feel they were going for genuinely feels incredibly gimmicky. I also don't like the weakpoints thing because with the exception of the mancubus all the weak points are tiny as hell. I don't blame them for trying something new and I don't blame people for enjoying it but it feels like it rides too hard off of the hype of "It's doom, gore and heavy metal come on man what's not to like". It was absorbed into its own meme status, like Deadpool.

Resident Evil. I shit on tank controls because they suck, I hate them and it makes the fanboys mad when I say it but I like exploring spooky places solving puzzles and trying to find ways to not die. There needs to be more games like that.

Depends what you mean by get into. I sank maybe 40 hours into Borderlands 2 now and I don't like it. The story is boring, the attempts at humour are unfunny garbage and fall completely flat and the gameplay is very tedious. Maybe I just got unlucky but for large chunks of the game I get stuck with shitty weapons and every drop is somehow worse than what I have. The shops are also useless and almost never have anything worth buying, though that is an issue with most RPGs. Just end up selling shit and collecting money I cant spend because everything you can buy is useless.

I liked the original game but 2 seems to have dialled all the annoying aspects up to 11 and the gameplay loop no longer feels original so you cant overlook the flaws as easily.

Street fighter, i really can't into fighting games. Is like a disability, i love everything about the characters and stuff but can't play them and can't change that.

Final Fantasy tactics. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Any western inspired Japanese ARPG. Dragons Dogma, Dark Souls, Nioh, Senior, etc. It’s something between the presentation and jank that turns me off. I enjoy a lot of what the games offer in theory (skill based RPG, background lore is told subtly while the Main story is more or less treated rather unimportantly) but the way they’re presented is way too “Japanese” for lack of a better term. Where it overwhelms you in shallow depth. Same problem with Destiny or any AQ game. I know it’s a style I could really enjoy ; I played the ever loving shit out of Drakengard 1, which is just a shitty jank musou game that emphasizes the story just a bit more than the other games.

Witcher 3, for the same reasons as most others. I think it’s a shitty edge lord story like Game of Thrones. In fact, I’d say a lot of Euro RPGs fall in that line as well. Gothic, Kingdom Come : Deliverance, Enderal. Shits either tedious and boring or ridiculously edgy.

Mod quests for Elder Scrolls/Fallout. The mod authors are way too retarded to effectively mesh their shit writing with the games shit writing, so it always sticks out. Especially Someguys stuff, it always baffles me how anyone can look at that and think that that’s at all good. Being the least bad in a group doesn’t make you good.

It seems like you just don't like RPGs in general. Maybe the genre's just not for you.

The HD version of REMake (released in the last few years) gets rid of the tank controls.
