Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Meanwhile, I can't find any shiny Pokemon despite both having the shiny charm and using Sparkling Power sandwiches. I haven't even found shiny Pokemon in outbreaks. I feel like shiny hunting has been broken for me since Kitakami.
You all find Shinies?

I legitimately have barely seen any Shinies, even with Sandwiches. This is going to be especially painful because I want a Shiny Metagross, and fuck the Metal Shine effect Steel Types have…
I haven't had any trouble fining shiny Pokemon myself as I recently caught a shiny Pawmi and did a shiny hunt that resulted in the the capture of two shiny Litwicks.

I found a Shiny Alolan Geodude today, I might make a really funny meme combo with it if I feel the need to do it. I also found two more Shinies, a Sawsbuck and a Torkoal, yesterday but my game borked and I didn't save after catching 'em.

EDIT: I managed to find another Shiny (a female Meowstic) before I left for lunch.

Oh, and a word of warning to those of you who are bringing in a team of competent Pokémon to the BB Elite Four battles...
Drayton's Elite Trial involves beating three trainers with Pokémon caught by you in the Terarium, you'll basically have to build another team to do it. Oh, and hatched Pokémon and Pokémon obtained in Raids aren't eligible. But once that's done you can use your regular team.
Apparently, if your Duraludon has a Gigantamax Mark, you cannot move it to Scarlet/Violet from Sw/Sh. This is according to Serebii so take it with a grain of salt, but it seems to be the case despite him so keep it in mind.
That's been true ever since the base game dropped. You couldn't transfer Pokémon like Meowth, Pikachu, or Eevee to SV if they had the Gigantamax Factor.

I just scored two more Shinies, a Snubbull and a Cottonee, with the help of a Sparkling Power Lv. 3 Fairy sandwich. I was hoping to get a Shiny Comfey but that fucker is hard to tell from a distance. I also had a bit of a brain fart and assumed that I could get Alolan Vulpix with the sandwich's effects but then I remembered that A-Vulpix is pure Ice-type.
I had no idea until now. That sucks.
Since you can now transfer Pokémon between generations (as of SWSH, transferring from LGPE to a later game is still one-way) it was expected. My guess is that the framework that prevents those specific Pokémon from evolving doesn't exist in SV and sending a Raichu/Kantonian Persian/Eeveelution with the Gigantamax Factor back to SWSH could cause problems.

Weirdly enough, you can send Milcery with the Gigantamax Factor (which you could obtain from multiple Wild Area events) over to SV but I assume that's due to Gigantamax Alcremie existing.

I like Gouging Fire's design. Glad to see they went with a design based on Styracosaurus instead of just a bog standard triceratops. Also props to the poster who guessed a while back that Paradox Entei's design would be based on a triceratops, you nailed it.

I actually miss the third versions more and more as time goes on, starting with X/Y. They were essentially modern "ultimate" or GOTY editions of games with all the DLC but you were unable to purchase it separately. I'm not pretending it wasn't just them jewing more money from kids' pockets but they usually had enough to make a replay more than worth it, along with whatever notions you had to finally do a particular thing that gen on a fresh play through.
Would have liked to have seen a third Gen 7 entry (it could have been titled something like Eclipse). Then again I'm biased, Gen 7 is my favorite generation and I would have loved to have seen more of it.

And I just encountered my third non-Sandwich Power Shiny today, this time it was Shiny Scraggy. I haven't seen the usual data-miners saying anything about a higher Shiny Rate in the Terarium so I'm assuming it's just really good luck.

I finally got around to playing Black. Going to 60fps battle screens after Platinum is really jarring.

Can we talk about how obnoxious the start is? On top of the usual railroading bullshit, the game forces you to use the elemental monkeys. As annoying as gen VII railroading was, I don't remember them ever forcing you to use a specific species. The worst part is it isn't technically forcing you. It's doing the passive-aggressive thing of "Oh no, you don't have to use this monkey we basically handed to you, we've just put all the useful Pokémon on later routes and disabled trading. You can use whatever you want, though! teehee"

The kicker? The monkey I got is level 10, but the Gym trainers all have Pokémon around level 11~12. So the Pokémon the game twists your arm into using is too weak to fight effectively I can't level it up because the only route I have access to has level 4-7 Lillipup/Purrloin and because of the fffffucking xp scaling I can barely get any experience. Who thought this was good game design?

If GF wanted people to use the monkeys, they should have given them decent stats, better movepools and designs that aren't just "shitty Chimchar." This is a lot of people's favorite entry in the series. I'm not even one Gym in and I already hate this fucking game.

That isn't forcing, retard. Calling it as much is very disingenuous, especially during a time when you're actually forced to use shit in the newer games (see: SV's entire final battle, LGPE's gym type-requirements). I get that being handed them sucks, but you can ignore the Dreamyard altogether if you want and still have a decently tough fight against the leader if you dislike them to that extent. Even with a type advantage, Work Up and the level difference makes the first gym kind of a pain.

This should've alerted you to that.

I will agree that this is dogshit, though. At the absolute least they should've introduced Audino a route or two earlier to ease that stupid level spike instead of waiting until after the fucking gym leader for it. As it stands, this grind is easily the worst in the game and I hate it so much.

I'll admit that I'm biased in favor of BW because they're my second-favorites in the series and I really love them, but you're not wrong about the first gym sucking dick. The games have a really shitty start that turns a lot of people off, but I promise it gets better. Especially right as you enter Castelia and get access to the desert with a bunch more kick-ass designs.

I think /vp/ or somewhere discovered a Switch port of SM was done by GF to test the system, and I THINK - don’t quote me - it was even given the internal name of “Stars”. Could’ve made that as an actual third version to begin selling the system with USUM as the 3DS extra versions. Like have Lusamine go both through her final boss insanity and the USUM story change she got on the Switch as a minor example.

I otherwise share your excellent taste on Alola. It feels like the best balance between le epic story GF likes versus just going on an adventure. Every type but ice got a memorable character with them, heck every character in the game was memorable. I know outside starters all the new designs were liked, and the tropical background is the one biome outside the temperate forests Kanto and Johto had that screams the perfect setting for a Pokemon game to be set in. And the starter choice affecting so many major characters’ teams via Hau’s starter and eeveelution, the Silvally Gladion has, Kukui’s ace, etc. was quite amusing. Helps it was the last pre-Dexit game too. I would ultimately choose Gen 2 or HGSS since that’s the epitome of what Pokemon is IMO, but Alola comes ridiculously close in my lists.

Calm down lol. Even in my original post I conceded that the developers didn't force the player to use it, they just twist the player's arm really, really hard. I agree that you don't, strictly speaking, have to use them. But at this point we're just arguing semantics.

To be clear, it's not that I don't like Pansage, Pansear and Panpour (although I'm not keen on them). It's just the fact that the developers clearly did and made damn sure the player is going to use them. I guess they wanted the player to learn about type matchups that much. I put a lot of emphasis on the monkeys - because the game does - but the grind annoyed me more. The monkey is just the shit cherry on top.

I really am trying to give this game a chance. It presents itself very wall and I haven't played it in so long. It just seems to be filled with things designed to annoy me specifically.

I talked to some scientist guy working on wireless communication BS - because the nosy asshole at the town gate wouldn't let me leave until I did, naturally - and he said (paraphrased) "Do you want a tutorial?" I selected "no" and he said "sorry, I just love talking about my system so much" and gave me the tutorial anyway. Why would you do this? How much contempt must GF have for the player? To make matters worse, the PC actually has a section in "help" on the C-gear. The scientist only had to say "Well, if you need info, just check the 'help' option in the PC."

One final thing: do your dipshit "rivals" ever leave you alone? Blue was a dick but at least you got the impression he was doing his own thing. It was natural that you would keep bumping into one another because you were both heading to the same place. I get the impression the two idiots I'm lumbered with are just following me instead of having their own adventure. When Bianca autistically insisted we take our first step together I didn't realize it was such foreshadowing.

Ok I'll stop ranting about it now and just get on with it.

So apparently people have found a way to trigger the Meloetta encounter that's present in the Terarium.
GBcm1YAXAAAuGBF.jpg
  1. Go to this section of the Coastal Biome (it's bewteen the Coastal Outdoor Classroom flight spot and the Coastal Rest Area flight spot) and find an area where the wind is swirling.
  2. Spin your character clockwise for 10-30 seconds.
  3. Open Camera Mode and turn the Sepia filter on.
  4. Exit Camera Mode and look around for Meloetta.
It feels like a scoolyard-era rumor (like the old "Mew is under the truck in Vermillion City" hoax) but it actually works.

Oh, and I caught a Shiny Exeggcute a little while ago. I've also been fiddling around the Item Printer, it's a nice upgrade to the Cram-o-matic but you do have to put in some work to get the ability and chance to get more Apricorn/Safari/Sport/Master Balls from it.

Like where is the looker, that man has been annoying players for three generations straight, but in a Region famous for Scorland Yard, where he would actually have fit in, there is not even a single police station, while Hawaii/Alola has multiple.
The fact that Looker isn’t in the game when we are known for our police and he looks like a Doctor from Doctor Who is beyond me. That was the reason the internet memed him into being British in the first place. He was a police officer that looked like the 10th Doctor and just so happened to jump through space and time. And yet he is nowhere. Despite Who being something the UK is very known for. Despite the plot almost being tailor made for him to show up. It’s real odd.
The games became really weirdly disconnected after a certain point. Like, the first four gens had all sorts of interconnections, BW2 had the World Tournament, XY had a lot of Unova references... then after that there's like, nothing. Yeah there's big name cameo appearances like Blue and Red but there just isn't as much actual natural connection between regions.

This never happened. Lots of test assets for Lets Go and Sw/Sh were in the Gigaleak but not hide nor hair of "Stars."

I took part in the first half of Pokèmon GO’s December Community Day, the rate was okay but since I wasn’t in a “hot” area I didn’t get a lot of Shinies (15).
So apparently I hear the Gym Leaders Clay and Elesa from B/W have a daughter in the new DLC, and I can only imagine how pissed of Twitter is considering how much the character was treated as a lesbian with Skyla.
That’s only half-true: Lacey is Clay’s daughter but there’s nothing in the dialogue, seen in-game or data-mined, stating who her mother is. The Elesa angle is just another 4chan hoax like the “OK hand gesture is actually a white supremacy dogwhistle” bit was.

According to data miners there's a "third" dlc for Pokémon SV that is in the game code that is activated upon receiving a key item.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtFS3fS2Tvg
This games mythical is locked behind it. No word on if it requires the other two dlc's purchase but the indigo disc required completion of the teal mask to start it so it is likely that it might require you to have owned and completed the two previous dlc to play.

Whoever decided that the DLC areas should start their Dexs from 1 again and include base game Pokemon but numbered differently needs to be shot. Box organising by number is a nightmare as a result.

I mean there is. The issue is after BW came XY which is literally an alrernate reality to every game that came before it and where all the continuety has been in since. Alola had tons of references, the references in SWSH were the only good part of it and Palsea has so many references to Unova it’s crazy,

Only struggle really was BDSP and that seems like it was caused between fans screaming ‘needs to be a 100% faithful remake but also add in a bunch of stuff that was not in those games and thetefore not be a 100% faitful remake but if it isn’t a 100% faithful remake we will murder you’ and ‘GF should not develop remakes and hand them to someone else’ along with Ilca just being inexperienced. I honestly get why those fon’t feel connected.

If they lock the Epilogue to their whole game and DLC behind a limited time key item I’m going to die of laughter

I remember when games were intended to be complete on release.

Part of me hopes that the Mythical Pecha Berry Key Item will be one of those "permanent" online events like the end-of-support Dynamax Raids SWSH got but we all know it won't.

I'm just hoping it'll be distributed soon, I've heard that it being a surprise late December/Early January giveaway is a possibility due to mochi being an important part of New Year festivities in Japan.
