From what I've heard, the game has been cracked so you could just pirate it.
If I pirate the game falls into my deep backlog with 1000s of retro roms. Personally investing in the game is the only way I'll sink hours into it.
Yeah, it's an RE Engine game, but it runs surprisingly well. I'm running everything maxed out and rarely drop below 80 fps, and my computer isn't the best. I think they either managed to figure out some of the RE Engine kinks with this game or it just benefits from their being pretty much no NPC's to shit up the map like Monster Hunter and Dragons Dogma had to deal with. From what I heard Resident Evil Requiem also ran really well.
Bingo. RE Engine is a fantastic engine for smaller scale games its flaws come out when they try to do open world. Much like how the Unreal Engine 5 is actually a fantastic engine when devs know what the hell they're doing but when they don't it becomes a massive pile of shit.

You know what, that's honestly pretty fair.

The armor design on the MC rubs me the wrong way, it looks so generic. Looks like a reject from Anthem after that game got shut down found a job at Capcom. Clearly a poor man's Isaac Clarke.
To be fair, the MC works for a corporation and the suit is designed for function first, it's kind of like how IRL Space Suits look pretty generic unless you have an autist like Elon designing them.

Like this is what they're going to use when they go land on the moon.

But for Hugh's armor, you can kind of tell that they took heavy inspiration from the Lunar suits Apollo used. Which is why it looks so generic. The game is also set in an unspecified near future date, which may be why they went with the simpler look.

It has to be the helmet, I swear I've seen it in a hundred other games before.

The gameplay itself seems fine so far but its got a serious case of Metroid Prime 4 where the characters just won't shut the fuck up.

' Enemy nearby, we better be careful! Wow, that enemy looks strong! Jump Hugh! Look out Hugh! I should hack him Hugh! We did it Hugh!'

'Thats the first lock! Thats the second lock! Thats the third lock! Thats the fourth lock, one to go! Thats the fifth lock! Thats all the locks!' - literally this just happened I am not exaggerating she chimes in for every lock while it cuts away to a big door showing the lock symbols, just in case you didn't understand the visual.

'Shelter? I can't go back?! How will I get to my ship?!'

Its so grating. I could forgive the Cute Autism Robot Child moments so far if she ever stopped talking that way about literally anything else. Please, please tell me it gets better and they aren't constantly 'bantering'.

Reading this made me think of this video. One of the many things that annoy me about modern single player games. It's pretty accurate. Also the helmet sort of looks like something I've seen in Cyberpunk 2077. I also don't understand the design choices in the robot girl; put some slippers on niggah.

Yeah, that helmet style where it opens up is popular, I think they reused a lot of design ideas from Vanquish, ironically

But one thing I do like is that Hugh's helmet doesn't fully "open" if that makes sense. When the visor is up you can see his face sure, but there's still glass that keeps his suit sealed and is where his HUD pops up.

There are also different armors you can find in the game that do look better than his og armor.

Yeah, these look much better. This being modern day crapcom, I imagine they will be used as a vehicle for microtransactions, however.
The ones I linked are all found in game. There is a 14 dollar microtransaction that has two more though.

You also have the early bird armor that you get if you buy the game before the 23rd

But there are 9 findable armors in the base game so far.

At least the other costumes give her shoes. I do think its kind of funny that Hughs' backpack has perfectly designed small child foot rests. I have no idea what those are supposed to be for otherwise. Dude's just randomly got the death stranding cargo rack on his back.

I also can't tell if it's because of translations or what but I swear Capcom dialogue makes everyone sound kind of retarded like MGS always did.

The quippy constant dialogue still grates but the overall dynamic so far is fine, they're both at least likeable even if I think they try too hard to constantly make Diana 'cute'.

So looking at it, the back things were designed to hold supplies

This is him at the start of the game.

So, where she stands is where that container on his back was, which he lost after the opening. She uses the top half of his pack as handholds, but you can tell they weren't designed for that.

One thing I can say for this game is it's very impressive they managed to give Diana thick long hair with physics and there's basically no clipping.

You don't see that too often.
There is some clipping when she does some things but yeah it doesn't happen all that often

Overall level of polish seems pretty high for a Capcom game.

Friend tells me it runs really well which doesn't always happen ie Dragons Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds.

I've seen people draw parallels to Dead Space or Death Stranding but I haven't seen anyone bring up Ratchet and Clank. That's the only other game I've played where you meet a robot sidekick in the beginning that you wear as a backpack for the rest of the game. Even some of the platforming elements and weapons remind me of R&C, which were some of my favorite games growing up so that could contribute to why I'm enjoying this subconsciously. One thing that took me too long to realize is that Hugh's dodge is actually really helpful in the platforming bits. Obviously performance will vary but I found the sweet spot is PT turned on, DLSS Quality, 2x Frame Gen, getting like 90 FPS on a 5070ti PC.

I didn't think to compare it to R&C honestly, that does check out though.

But obviously, its true inspiration is Banjo-Kazooie
