Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who’s been facing backlash over anti-scientific, offensive and belittling remarks he made about the basic abilities of autistic people, is launching a disease registry to track Americans with autism. The news raises a host of data security concerns, in addition to questions about how Kennedy might use the data to advance his conspiratorial and harmful health agenda.


Advocates for people with autism have decried Kennedy’s recent comments that autism is a “preventable” disease that “destroys families,” and Kennedy has hired a discredited vaccine researcher to investigate debunked claims that autism and vaccines are linked. So the idea that the health secretary wants to compile a database of Americans who have a condition he seems intent on spreading falsehoods about is more than a little suspect.

CBS News reports: “Between 10 and 20 outside groups of researchers will be given grant funding and access to the records to produce Kennedy’s autism studies.”

Considering the potential causes are in the air and the ground at all times while also being in most of the shit we eat and wear and sit and sleep on….my nigga, I think vaccines are probably not the cause for autism. I think it’s everything else that’s the cause for autism.

Not saying it wouldn't make you sick, but if someone gave me a choice to EAT or INJECT poison, I'd feel better odds eating it. Might vomit it up too.

Yeah but saying Roundup, lead paint, and car exhaust can cause autism isn't treated like a crazy anti-science conspiracy the same way "mercury in vaccines" is. Thimerosal, which is roughly 50% mercury and is applied in less than 0.01% of vaccines prevents microbial growth so when you get the vaccine you're not also getting whatever shit that's grown in it while it sat around. It generally breaks down into ethylmercury, which leaves your body when you take a shit.

Anti-vaxxers are half-right. It's not the vaccines that's causing autism, it's the deadly fucking chemicals we have pumped into the air, water and ground for the better part of half a century. If it makes them feel any better, yes, you can also blame your government for that too.

I remember reading somewhere that the autism rates in the US started rising when women started having children later. Correlation doesn't mean causation but the same goes for vaccine induced autism. The fact is that society has been changing at a rate that far outpaces evolutionary change so this issue might not have a single smoking gun solution.

I definitely support RFK's quest to figure out the problem though. Even if he is wrong it moves our collective understanding of the human psyche forward.

I think there were several major societal/health/pollution things that happened all at the same time as later birth rates including higher vaccine rates (probably, I can't be fucked to search), antidepressants & psychiatric medication, birth control, industrialization of farming and plastics everywhere. There's even other advances that happened before that that could've a delayed impact.
I don't doubt one of those things may be the culprit but it seems difficult to pin it on any one thing.
