For a bit he was this autistic kick about how we could use science to clone Dinosaurs and other extinct Prehistoric animals and let them repopulate the interior of the United States. All their needs are catered to by robots and they just mindlessly consume. They've become so ignorant they don't even understand what dirt is. In the end they try to become self-sufficient and begin farming their own food. It's been maybe 12 years since I've seen it but I should probably give it a rewatch because as I remember it's basically SUPERIOR FUTURE: THE MOVIE. Except the movie is critical of this automated future while portraying manual work and farmers positively. So on paper it seems like a movie Bob should hate but he absolutely loved it.

You actually expect Bob to understand basic science? He's a moron who gets all his scientific knowledge from "I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE" blogs, Sci-fi B Movies, and torn down EPCOT attractions. His view on science is that its fucking magic and scientists are wizards, MIT and Boston Dynamics are Hogwarts in Bobs mind where scientists wave their magic wands to conjure the robots that will perform all the labor in the superior future. In his mind cloning exists so therefore we can use it and the DNA of extinct animals to recreate dinosaurs like in Jurassic Park. He takes what would be considered a theoretical idea or a prototype and thinks it can easily be mass produced tomorrow because one example exists.

He has no idea about what it would take to replace the country's infrastructure with automation or all the risks that would come from basing your farming and manufacturing sectors on a technology in its infancy. He also has no clue about evolution, the environment, climate change, or the biology of extinct animals. All he knows is that Tony Stark built a power armor suit in a cave with a box of scraps so science can do anything in real life.

I was watching Fredrik Knudsens Down the Rabbit Hole about The Mouse Utopia Experiment. When I noticed that the conditions for the mice are very similar to what Bob wants for humans in his superior future. The mice were given unlimited access to food, water, shelter, nesting materials, everything they could ever want or need in a huge structure. Bob wants the same for people. Robots take over every job and provide unlimited resources for the people all living together in the coastal mega cities. Who now have nothing but free time to dedicate to hobbies in the pursuit of pleasure. It sounds like paradise for someone like Bob. But if the Mouse Utopia experiment was any indicator the cities would quickly become a hellish nightmare for everyone who lives there. If i remember right one of the researchers described the mouse utopia as "hell on earth".

The "utopia" is all the fatsos in their hover chairs, consooming in their enclosed environment and the "self-sufficiency" is when they go back to Earth at the end to rebuild. Both of those labels are questionable, but that Robert considers the first a "utopia" is both amusing and completely unsurprising.
