Nah, it's cause his accent is incredibly exaggerated even for a Bostonian. He sounds like a goddamn cartoon character. Also, Bob is a cunt and everything about him is open season for mockery far as I'm concerned.

More or less what @PurpleDude pointed out- It's overly exaggerated even for a Bostonian like Bob. Like, I don't know why he exaggerates it as much as he does. I'd consider it a regional/family thing, but Bostoners don't sound as cartoonish, nor do we know what the rest of Bob's family sounds like, so really, who knows.
Could be that the fat's preventing him from speaking normally, could be the autism making him overemphasize the accent. But whatever it is, we'll probably ever know.

He used to hide it, and the accent would only slip when he was super butthurt about whatever he was talking about, but ever since 2014 he's turned pretty much every show into an unhinged rant and the cartoonish accent takes a more and more prominent role.
Basically, the accent switch is a convenient marker from when Bob went from "average internet reviewer with retarded opinions" to "delusional mario fascist lolcow".
Thanks for your feedback, guys, do you reckon he might be putting it on a bit? It's a way of saying he's a blue state Democrat? It might even be stress, I know my accent also gets more non-rhotic if I get annoyed.

That was my initial thought too, but the cartoonish accent's present even when he isn't ranting, so I don't know.

He's just stopped giving a shit, guys. Getting fired from the Escapist for his unhinged twitter rants (and all the other ethical questions @Jaimas can elaborate on better than myself) just cemented his opinion that bothering to mask the accent is somehow giving in to the people that fired him. The switch cemented itself in his post-Escapist content, it's gotta be related to that.
I don't think he should ashamed of his accent, it's just funny that he doesn't use the prestige general American accent when he's obsessed with social class and so avidly wants to belong to the neo-liberal overclass.

I've said this before, but I personally think him adopting the cartoonish accent for all his videos is just a really stupid, misguided way for him to spite The Escapist at the expense of making the viewer's ears bleed.

He gets really salty when you bring it up, and all his attempts at setting the record straight still make him look shitty regardless of what happened. (According to him, he left the wake early to put in an AC for his parents. I'm assuming his parents were also at the wake, and consequently, it could've waited until they all got home instead of leaving his family in a time of need.)

Weird to see Bob of all people going to bat for veterans. Considering the US military is 1) a tool of nationalist troglodytes, 2) used to kill oppressed groups, and 3) gushed over by people he would call inferior yokels.

Nah, I think most of them are aware. A common criticism of America's military actions since the War on Terror started is it's a bunch of poor, oppressed men of color pressed into warfare to try to make ends meet because whitey fucked them over so bad at home. "Progressive" reactions to minorities in the armed forces oscillate between either lamenting their role as slaves to white imperialists or sneering at them for being house niggers.
