What's funny is Bob's talk about "the work speaks." I heard from more than a few conservative podcasters (and some articles) talk about how Rosanne was a bait and switch show. Especially as it went on, each episode was one with the "trump voter" starting out with a point but by the episode's end learning a very special lesson about how the woke liberal way was the one true way. (I never watched it but I was betting this would turn out to be the case.)

Heck it was not even just them:

Comedian Sarah Silverman “loved” the show. On Twitter, she praised its portrayal of the angst that disagreements about politics can produce within families, as well as a plot line featuring a grandchild of Roseanne and Dan Conner who does not conform to traditional gender roles. The way Roseanne shows grandparents “resisting/then learning/then accepting stuff that’s unfamiliar & therefore scary 2 them,” she tweeted, is “how change happens.”

Silverman acknowledged that Barr has tweeted material that she finds offensive and wrongheaded, but she added that “the show is more than her,” and explained, “I like that Trumpers will watch and embrace it because it’s secretly liberal as fuck.” What’s more, she urged her fellow liberals, “Hope y’all let go of needing art 2 reflect/express only what u yourself feel. That’s not what art’s 4.”

So first of all it's kind of hilarious to see the left killing what could have been one of their most effective propaganda tools. Like watching some of Greeks the get upset about the Trojans getting a big horse ("Look at Sinon buddying up to them! What a traitor!") and setting fire to the gift.

Second, it also means Bob apparently never bothered to watch the show or stick with it to the punchline otherwise he would know that Rosanne's work was speaking his language. It just goes to show how narcissist he is that if the work doesn't speak to him personally, he doesn't find it worth anything in weighing someone's guilt or innocence.

Honestly? Yes to all of the above.

I've remarked before that prior to Bob losing his fucking mind over GG (and getting canned), I thought his Big Picture series was at least decent, with some pretty good vids in there (my personal favorites being his review of Future Cops and the explanation of how Scott Pilgrim killed the Mountains of Madness movie).

But he's not funny, or insightful, or interesting any more (assuming he was, which at this point I'm not even gonna TRY to take a stand on). He's just an asshole. A raging, envious asshole.

But I can't even feel scorn or contempt any more for this puling, sniveling quim. Just pity.

This James Gunn sperging is going to look even more hilarious in retrospect when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes out and it makes just as much money as any other Marvel movie, with no perceptible dip in quality. That's where the show became wrongthink. You can't ever admit "Trump voters" may have difficult lives, or difficult periods in their lives, or struggles of their own. You can't ever admit any of them might have a point about anything. That might be the starting point for "empathy" and "discussion" which threatens liberal echo chambers, and we can't have that.

No, "Trump voters" have to live in the goldilocks zone of dehumanization where they have more than their fair share but are blissfully unaware of it because they've never known "real" poverty or oppression, feel entitled to everything everybody else has, and want to use the government to knock everyone else down and take their shit instead of bootstrap themselves and work for it. So they can't be trusted to think for themselves, figure out who's to blame for their problems on their own, and worse unless contained they might "infect" others with their mistaken beliefs.

As pointed out, Gunn did help with their personalities. However, on another note, Joss Whedon was fired and replaced for the new Avengers movie and people loved it more than the second one he worked on, and Jon Favreau left Iron Man after the second one, they found someone else, and people liked the third one better than the second one. The people directing these movies are interchangeable, which is to be expected when the whole Marvel cinematic universe is so formulaic and so massive that people will come and go and nothing changes.

With or without James Gunn, you probably could predict the new guardians movie will have 80s music, Quill and Drax acting like morons, serious moments inter-cut with jokes, and "I am Groot" milking.
