Though it does highlight a core contradiction. He's nostalgic to a fault, yet he keeps chasing the "superior future!". It's like he's saying the world must change except for him.

The reason Bob is like this is due to just how purely miserable he is as a person. He may have a huge ego, but Bob is clearly unhappy with his life and it shows. He's nostalgic for the past because his childhood was the last time he was truly happy. Or at the very least, the closest he's ever been to being happy. He didn't have any responsibilities that come with being an adult and he hadn't yet failed at being an "adult" yet.

He yearns for the future however because even he understands that his childhood is over and isn't coming back. All he can hope for is that one day his life will change for the better.

As another Kiwi once observed, the irony here is that the time period he is nostalgic for (the 1980s) was dominated by Republican Presidents Reagan and Bush Sr. and the decade he hates (the 1990s) was dominated by the Democratic Clinton. Maybe the PTSD from from the SNES/Genesis Wars screwed up his mind worse than we thought. I very much agree that he is nostalgic for the Reagan/Bush years because that was when he was happiest. Part of me is sympathetic as there are times where I'm nostalgic for my own childhood, but Bob's ego and wrath pretty much destroys any reason for me to empathize with him. For as much as Bob wants to believes that he wants happiness, he needs to be angry to give his life purpose.

Unfortunately for him, it won't. Why? Bob will not put any effort into making that Superior Future™ come to pass. Oh, sure, he has his job at the Escapist and lost weight (good for him, I guess), but he is still powerless to effectively bring about the change he wants to see on the scale he imagines. He can yell at Bob Iger and Disney all he wants on Twitter. James Gunn is not returning to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He can rant about President Trump until his sunken cheeks turn blue. Trump has more pressing matters than listening to a capeshit-obsessed rube from New England. For all his ranting on how useless the denizens of "flyover country" are, someone could shoot Bob in the forehead throw his carcass in a ditch, and barely anyone would give a shit in a couple years. Critics aren't that useful in society and there are at least a hundred chomping at the bit to replace him. His life, as it is, is as good as it will ever get for him.

Well, can't wait for the Bob/Peach fusion fanfic.

Or maybe people don't like Marvel Comics, ever think of that?

Where does Bob think he has the position to complain about tattling? He does this constantly whenever someone gives him the remotest chance. It's actually worse for him, because he expects everyone else to do so as well.

Bob thinks he's vastly more important and influential than he really is. The bride at every wedding; the corpse at every funeral.

Yet those "progressives" aren't supporting the comics they claim to like. The leftie lovies can blow their own trumpet about trades/digital sales/book fairs, but these titles wouldn't be cancelled in less than twelve issues if they were profitable. Maybe Bob should use some of those Patreon bucks to support titles like Iceman, Ms. Marvel, and Unstoppable Wasp. Hell, if loves them so much, maybe he can review them and convince his braindead followers to run to their nearest LCS to support these titles. I mean, he has 125K subscribers and a few of them might drop the cash for it...

...but who am I kidding? This is Bob Chipman we're talking about. He's a lazy know-nothing who yells from the stands.

I get the distinct impression that a teenaged Bob walked into a comic shop (probably dressed as Mario) back in the nineties and the nerds laughed how pathetic he was.

That's the thing. The comics industry is driven by profits, not feels or good intention. Money talks, and bullshit walks. Until Wal-Mart starts accepting Woke Good Boy Points for food and clothing, and we all hope they don't.

Bob's probably saying it as a joke but that's not at all what "Peachette" is. An upcoming Mario game has a power-up if you play as Toadette that turns her into a form that shares appearance with Peach.

So that "fusion" fanfic is going to have to be Bob turning into Peach and I'm not sure if that's better or worse....

How fucking dumb really is Bob. The only reason people liked WW was because it stars a woman? Maybe the movie was actually good whereas the rest of the movies for Batman and Superman were garbage? It has nothing to do with sex.
Good point, actually. I can't remember why I liked that movie. I mostly remember how useless the part in London was.

How would you describe his nostalgia of the Bush II and Obama eras?

I can't speak to his Bush II nostalgia, but I imagine his "nostalgia" for Obama has more to do with his belief that the election of Obama was supposed to be the progressives' final victory over the "reactionary" forces of the Republican Party. Trump's election shattered that delusion.

2008 really was when the progressives thought Obama would actual bring change when all he did really was sold them out for the neoliberal global elite assholes living in Hollywood and on the east coast.

Just seen this: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-big-picture/117224-Plothole-Surfers (I know I am late, fuck you The Escapist's video player sucks and I try to avoid using It as much as possible) And, while I agree with the overall theme about Plot Holes being used to present a subjective opinion as fact, It's HILARIOUS how fast he turns It around to make passive-agressive remarks about the people he doesn't like, and how they use Pseudo-Plot Holes to discredit all of his favorite pieces of Feminist propagan... Ergh... I mean, modern film classics! It makes him look like such a whinney, unprefossional bitch who can't for the love of God just make a point about a piece of art, without triying to brainwash you into thinking exactly how he does, because If you are not with him you are against him.

Y'know, people on this thread mock him for outweighting his value as a movie-critic, but honestly not even that, he has absolutely forgotten how to talk about media without dumping his pollitics on to everything. He has absolutely failed at being the only good thing he was good at.
