Not trying to be dismissive, but in just following this thread I legit believe he has anger issues. That combined with being maladjusted socially and diving into geek shit I think really paints the kinda guy he is today. He mentioned seeing a school specialist or whatever and getting out of therapy, so I think he may actually have anger management issues.
Like I said, just a theory that doesn't really hold up when you consider how much effort one would have to put forth to fake being that mad all the time. Shit, I have a hard time thinking about finding one thing to be mad about every day, to say nothing of the dozens Blobbo spews out.
He definitely has
some kind of mental problem, but he'll never get that taken care of. Better to just shovel more fast food and cheap beer down your throat as you consoom the latest Mahvel pablum.
What does he think religion is if not belief? To be religious you have to believe in God, and religion is how we express that belief.
I think I can shed some light. I have an atheist friend (thankfully not the euphoric kind) who enjoys the rituals of religion, especially the ceremony involved with Catholicism. While he doesn't believe in the Christian God (or any god, for that matter), he likes to learn about the practices of faiths; it's the organization and ritual that intrigues him. It's just something he likes to learn about, basically.
The difference between him and Bob (or rather, one of many) is that he's not obnoxious about his unbelief. We've had many a delightful conversation about faith, where I provide a Lutheran perspective on Christian doctrine; his best childhood friend/another friend of mine is Catholic so we run the gamut. We both poke fun at Christianity (let's face it, there's some funny stuff to dig into), but never in a mean-spirited way. He's never once denigrated my faith, and I've never pressed him to convert or anything, beyond leaving an open invitation to come by my church anytime. I respect his reasons and leave his faith, or lack thereof, to himself.
I imagine that Bobby is of a similar fashion. He likes the spectacle of religious services, but he's too enlightened to believe in the magic sky daddy, and he never stops letting you know that. Basically, if there was a church that was a 100% carbon copy of the Catholic faith, except it prayed to Disney, the Democrats, or Science instead of God, Bob would be in the front pew every Sunday.
Or maybe it's simpler than that. Maybe Bob just really likes church potlucks.
Shame nobody else gets any food when he's done...
