S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Stalker) Thread

There really aren't any combat/assault/battle rifles in the game using full rifle rounds like the 7.62x51mm, magazine capacities over 10 rounds, and a fast cyclic rate or full-auto.
Believe it or not the M14 can be modded into full auto, there's a 20 round mag attachment you can pick up in the Duga area, and it can fit multiple scopes. Its just that the weapon itself is so awkward to use there's no damn point.

And I know I've complained about how fucked the weapon choices are before, so don't remind me.

Nifty map if you don't feel like going through the pain of blindly exploring every single nook and cranny of the absolutely massive map on your own. As much as I may complain about many things, the sheer size of the map and the fact you can (with cheats) fast travel all the way from Pripyat to the Clear Sky base without a single load screen and minimal streaming issues is technically impressive.

You can download it via Code > Download ZIP, but do you intend to do that to modify it or just to get it to run? I don't think the latter will work. I know it's cancerous to have to go to their discord to download the client but the guide there is highly likely to be your easiest way to install it. Also be aware that the full install of Anomaly+GAMMA is almost 100 GB.
I want to install it so I can play it. I don't intend to modify it. Gamma is just a mod back with 500 or so mods installed. I am also aware that it's rather large. That isn't so much of an issue for me. I have plenty of space. My issue is I can't even figure out how to the damned thing off Github. I watched a few videos on YouTube about installing it.
I don't intend to play this game but out of curiosity, to what degree of modding support does Stalker 2 have? The Steam page seems to advertise mod support, but since this is UE5, I'm extremely skeptical about that. I know for a fact that it's definitely not on the level of modding for the previous games.
I would wait a while. I bought the game on Steam on release. It's a bit of a mess right now. People are in total hopium and copium mode about the game. It's funny because all I hear is people talking about how great the game is. These same people pretty much shit on other games for being poorly optimized half baked bug filled messes. But for some reason STALKER 2 gets a pass. I don't get it. lol

Press the big green code button and download a zip file.

Runs ok on a 3080Ti + 14700k + 32gb ram except in towns. I am running most settings on ultra with some on high and DLSS quality. I installed an optimization mod from nexus which improved performance, but inside towns I am getting 40 to 45 fps at times. Hopefully they address performance soon. Enemies are also detecting me through walls when in alert and non-alert state. It's so fucking annoying. Otherwise, the game is great. It's unfortunate that they launched the game in such a state though. Just seems like more UE5 performance issues. Silent hill 2 is also a mess in that aspect and suffers from severe traversal stutter.

I wasn't planning on getting the game as I said. This isn't even because of the state of the game, it's just that I really don't pay more then $50 for games anymore unless I'm really sure I want said game. I was honestly expecting that the game would come out in this state though, with the switch to UE5, all the delays, the modern AAA game trends that the developers were trying to incorporate, and the Ukraine war insanity. Still though, I had been following this game since 2021 so it's a bit disappointing to see how it came out as this was one of the few modern games that caught my eye.

On the bright side, since this franchise is now in my mind again, I might as well try to attempt another consistent playthrough of SoC, since I've always wanted to play through it fully, but could never stick around with it for that long.

Oh, for those wondering about the other DLC location, its the Iron Forest. There's a big-ass checkpoint door in Garbage complete with PoI like the Bridge to Lyansk and access ways in the Cooling Towers and Yaniv that have insta-kill radiation levels.

Finished Shadow of Chernobyl a week or so ago, been taking time to sit on it and think about it before I move on to Clear Sky, guess I can properly call myself a "true" Stalker fan. Comparing SoC to Stalker 2 makes me really depressed, SoC was cut down heavily from its original premise but the game still had ambition and heart to it, unlike S2 which feels and looks like Ukrainian Skyrim like people have been saying. Wish we could've gotten more from S2, and I doubt I'll give it another shot any time soon, maybe a few years down the line when the game is actually functional and fun.

So, what's the verdict? Is the game good enough for at least one playthru or is it a mess?

Keep in mind that I have never played the original three games, and while I really enjoy the lore I'm not an obsessive fan. Also keep in mind that I'm fairly easy to please when it comes to games and willing to overlook things as long as I'm having fun with the game.

I'm having a lot of fun with the game. I am not very far into the game yet, still in the Lesser Zone, because I am really taking my time, exploring, looking for good loot, and because of my job and personal life I don't have a lot of time to just sit down and play for long hours. I have about two hours or less to play when I get home from work before I have to go to bed. I have more hours on my days off, but I also have obligations to my family. The story is OK. Not the best, but it's your typical shooter RPG kind of deal where you're sent on a wild goose chase to get you to new places to shoot enemies, loot their corpses, and search for goodies around their base/hideout. I say it's worth playing, especially if you have Game Pass on either your Xbox or PC and can try it for free to decide if you like it. I'll probably end up buying it.

LET'S FUCKING GOOOOO

Why even attempt to talk about this one? It is the equivalent of walking into a rake during your preface. Your opinion immediately goes out the window there its like Silent Hill "fans" (tourists who watch videos about them) claiming the new slop is good.
Then again this one was also designed for tourists. They'll never know the feeling of reaching the end of SOC or hanging around the bar.

You're a delightful cunt aren't you?
Maybe. So are the devs who tried to say it was an artistic (autistic) decision to disable the flashlight shadowcasting on the player while NPCs still have them. Games that take this long to release are almost always awful though. The wartime excuse falls short when you remember this has been attempted like 3 times in the span of 14 years. The devs are shit at their job but cannot admit this. Now we are here with people asking if this trash is worth buying like with any other old game thread. It's a Far Cry from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Speaking of GSC, does anyone actually have news about the physical release of Legends Of The Zone? They released it to switch but haven't bothered putting it into a cartridge. The only one I see is the ps4 Japan version. I consider waiting even though I can just mod in the cut monster(s) they put into it. I've looked everywhere and found nothing about it. I've seen false release estimates, that's about it. 1000299967.jpg

To be fair, from the looks of it there isn't much here for actual fans of the games. Mods are superior, even the original games are superior, it looks to me that Stalker 2 is UE5 slop filtered down for the console fans and normalcattle, so not playing the original titles and thinking this is the shit is on brand.

For whatever reason I was able to finish both SoC and Clear Sky but Call of Pripyat wont hold my interest. I'm playing the ABR mod but that hasn't done much to retain my interest.
