Saints Row thread

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Look at it this way.

If my ~$60 (that I can't do anything else with) buys a shitty game and I prevent you all from buying it, then my (again unusable elsewhere, it was a $100 giftcard that's already logged into my account) $60 prevents you from giving this company X amount of thousands of dollars.
Or, and hear me out here, counterpoint: you’re still giving them that money on top of the jackasses that give them thousands of dollars and won’t listen to you no matter what they do.

“To convince us not to buy it”, like you gotta convince people ITT. The people saying they’re still gonna try it pages ago are morons, but at least they’re not flaunting it as some moral duty that must be done to help those in need. Fuckin’ have some restraint and wait, the money’s already in your account and will last you literal years.

Or just be honest and say you’re buying it cuz you want it.

I can only spend it on PSN. I could spend it on something else, but there is truly nothing that interests me out atm. The only game I'm looking forward to, Dakar 2022, probably isn't even releasing this year anymore.

While I don't have high hopes for the SR Reboot, I'm interested to see what it has to offer. I'm not pre-ordering, but I'll check the reviews out the day or 2 before, and see what's up
Then just...save the $60 bucks in case something that does interest you comes out? Even if it's years in the future. These devs do not give a fuck about anyone and shit on the fans, why even give them a single cent? The only way people should ever acquire this game is either a key reseller (a random Polish stranger deserves your money more than Volition), pirating, a gift, or just not playing since it'll be guaranteed boring garbage.

The best way to show that you're not interested in a game or anything really is to not engage with it. Don't buy it, don't rent it, don't even pirate it.

You wanna buy the new game, by all means do it and enjoy your decision. The game is going to sell regardless, there are Chris Chan levels of normies that buy/rent anything that comes out, and considering the industry really has nothing to put on the plate at this moment. Will Saints Row make the sales goal? That I cannot answer, other maybe if it's set low enough, but I have a hunch that they went overboard with the marketing budget.

I don't expect the game to have too many glitches/issues other than just milquetoast game design and Marvel writing. Expect the Journalist shills to praise it with 8s and 9s, with normies and saner reviews falling in the 6 and 7s.

I feel like the only way we can truly see how this game will perform, is when it launches at the end of this month. Is it going to be a complete game? Or is it going to be a broken, unplayable mess with microtransactions that'll need constant patches and updates to iron out the bugs? I'm guessing the latter since that has been the norm since last gen.

I don't expect it to be much more technically inept or moneygrubbing than previous Saints Row games, just an uninspired rehash of them with much faggier writing. It's probably getting the usual dozens of DLC packs with guns and clothes and a few adding story missions.
If it is a severely unstable piece of shit, it'll give us more to laugh at I guess.

It's free money that I can't do anything else with.

However if this game is actually quite okish or decent and we are dooming it, and it's worth the purchase, well then they earned their money
Do you already own literally every other game in existence?

shit, completely forgot it comes out this month.

which is even more hilarious considering genshin 3.0 comes out at the end of the month too... and I can certainly see which gets the normies hyped up more.

If you really can't think of anything else on PSN you'd want, then it's your call. I'd say that you should look at user reviews or YouTube videos however, these days there seems to be a huge dissonance between what critics like and what the average joe likes (I wouldn't put it past Volition to find a way to "massage" the game's Metacritic rating).

If you do go through with it, let us know of any particularly heinous shit in the game that we haven't seen yet.
Oh obviously I'm going off of actual reviews, not Kotaku/IGN Garbage.

On PSN, that I take an interest in? Currently yes
That is the biggest crock of horseshit I've ever heard.

Even resident-Sony-sperg Marissa Moira can find new games to play in whatever genre you want on PSN. Doubly so on a console that has no fucking games. Either you're the richest motherfucker on the planet, or your taste in games is subterranean, lower than people who play exclusively sports games.

I'm certain you can find something, anything you haven't played in a genre you like on PlayStation, that's more worth your time than Saints Row 3-2: SJW Edition.

Is there a nice mod to optimize SR2? At this point i'm gonna redownload the game.
You can try following instructions on the PC Gaming Wiki: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Saints_Row_2
I tried to run SR2 on my PC once and gave up because I couldn't launch the game, it would constantly crash when trying to start a game. It's a goddamn shame IdolNinja's work on the rewrite will probably be forfeited because of Volition's corporate bullshit.

Most of the AAA titles that are coming out don't really interest me, I haven't been into shooters in a long time, and when I do get the urge I just play BFV that I got on sale for $10. Most of the stuff I play is either racing or open world or simulators, and there haven't been many good new and original releases in those genres lately. I've mostly been playing the San Andreas re-master as of late

You know what, just spend the money on this reboot, I doubt you’d be able to use the money on anything good anyway
What's the issue with the GTA Trilogy? I know on release it had some issues but those were corrected. The only gripe I have is that they made them easier.

What would you suggest then? Give me some titles

I know there is no point in explaining it to you since you're a mindless consoomer that enjoys when corporations shit in your mouth, but basically everything is wrong with the GTA Trilogy. R* outsourced it to the same company that did the mobile versions and early console "remasters" which were infamous for being full of bugs. And what they did with the Trilogy is that they've done the most lazy way of redoing the game. They haphazardly slapped RenderWare functions onto Unreal, since with Unreal it's trivial to get pretty reflections for normies to drool over, but they fucked up everything. Bugs that were present in the 1.0 releases still persist, and so do bugs introduced by Grove Street Games (formerly War Drum Studios) in their attempts to remaster the trilogy for mobile devices and consoles, and they've introduced even more bugs on top of that. They were so lazy that they "improved" geometry by doing subdivision surface on everything, no matter what it was, which was evident by the fact that the hexagonal screw on one of the donut parlors became round. The textures were upscaled with some very shitty algorithms where a bunch of Brazillian modders did it better for the OG games, and various text got assumed by the AI leading to a lot of misspelled signs.

True fans of the series just get the original 1.0 versions of the trilogy and mod that to fix any bugs from the OG release, but nowadays you'll have to basically either get an old retail copy or pirate it, since R* pulled the original games from the stores in favor of the vastly inferior remakes, not to mention that R*'s old Steam versions were castrated by attempts to "fix" issues and removing songs because of the license expiration. Vadim M has very good videos explaining how shit Grove Street Games/War Drum Studios are at their job and why you should never buy their shit. But you definitely won't care since you're enjoying the GTA Trilogy and you're planning on buying this shitty reboot without a second thought of whether or not it's good. You're the reason the industry is so shit, because people like you don't think if a product is worth the money or not, people like you just have to buy the newest shiniest thing no matter what it is, leading to the entire industry releasing more and more garbage, because people like you accept it and people like you make profit for them.
