Saints Row thread

Having given it some more thought, I think I know why "turning to crime to pay off their student loans" bothers me.

Aside from it being a lame attempt to cater to millennials (speaking of which, the oldest have turned 40, how's that more "fresh" than gangster culture?), why would someone becoming a criminal give a shit about obeying the law? If they're willing to sell drugs, become a pimp (although I doubt Volition would allow that, given their apparent shame for the older entries), or murder people to gain wealth, I doubt they'd care about paying their college off.

I know Saints Row veers to the sillier side of things, but this is such a bizarre premise to "validate" these characters.

So I might as well quickly state that last night, my buddies and I made some points about how the game could work in the hands of a competent human being. It won't happen, but this was the idea:

1. The Queer Quartet you see in that horrible trailer are a fake-out. You do the first 3 missions against each gang with them to lull you into thinking how bad it's going to be. You have to do these three missions for each, and can't rush down the tree because you need to pre-beat others before them.
2. The 4th mission for all of them is you as the Boss getting walloped, tortured, and you bust free. You have a time limit to save all three of your fellow kids, but it's kind of tight. They are being tortured horribly by the gangs, who have allied in force to beat the shit out of you and your disruptive idiot friends.
3. You rush to each one, but find that two of them are already dead, painfully and slowly.
3a. The only choice you ever had in "saving them" was your third friend is the one who sold you out and who you leave for last joins a specific gang.
4. From there, this crime shit isn't a game any more and you go utter psycho to rip that fucker and these three gangs apart.

As for the gangs, we came up with three.
1. La Pantera; they work for the cartels, run chopshops, and are also partially a motorbike gang comprised of ex-vets. There's a small neo-pagan neo-nazi vibe to a portion of them. They hate you for stealing their weapons shipment and fucking with their cars.
2. The Mob: traditional mafia crime family. They run hookers and casinos, and they like things done quietly and with respect. They don't like the heat you four college morons brought onto them.
3. The Barons: Arab gang that is more an oil company and corporation than gang nowadays. They dabble in human trafficking and drug smuggling through their tanker trucks, but at the end of the day, they've gotten soft in some respects, more business than pleasure.

This isn't going to happen, because that requires people who liked the old games, even whack-ass 4, for it to work. It also requires competence, which isn't present either.

Just bringing it up to show how it's really easy to not make a shit Saints Row game.

this reboot news made me pickup the remastered edition to take a look.
i really want to mod everything else but the main characters into the old game, they look so off, maybe because it uses animations of the old games and damn shit's loud yo.

Started as a gta clone with extensive customization options and took the story seriously but still had fun. 2 gave you more customization options and had a story that beats any GTA story almost on par with Yakuzas still knew when not to be too serious. Saints 3 took the serious elements and thew it out of the window but the game was fun. 4 jumped the shark and is one of the funnest games of the last decade wasted potential with the vehicle custoization since you can fly. GOH was mediocre.

This. I don't see why so many people are so worried about there never being any good games in the future. First off, of course there will be, just keep checking the indie scene and ignore the pretentious shit there, you can find lots of gems. Triple A games in general have been bad for years but occasionally put out something decent, some people don't need to worry/doompost about it being completely doomed. Second; as you said, go back and play old games. I have two dozen games in my Steam library that I still need to play, all of them being older releases. Then there's a shit ton of games I need to play on things like emulators and what not, and many games still get updates with more content to play. Then there's of course replaying old classic games you love, maybe getting all achievements in some, doing challenge runs of certain games, and so on. We could stop getting new games for 5-10 years and I'll still have shit I can go back to and play. I ignore the tards who have some weird stigma against older games because they're "old", older games in a series tend to be much better than newer entries anyways. People who feel the need to consooom all the brand new vidya need to go back and enjoy the classics, and stop dishing out 60-80 bucks on polished turds.
There are so many games from imo when games got great 1985 that its hard to play all the great ones. Hell Yakuza and GTA and the first 2 games in this franchise are better than most new games and long as shit. I hope for the remaster they keep the gameplay the same because the game design is dated too the mid 2000s.

Anon on /v/ is right. It's almost as if this game takes place in an alternate timeline where Dane Vogel won.

Gentrification is the word, which the Woke like to throw around, which is ironic, because they spearhead corporate gentrification out the wazoo.

People on the left used to criticize how creepily powerful corporations were becoming, then the corporations figured out to brainwash more effectively (for one thing by banging the ORANGE MAN BAD drum) and they turned their biggest critics into their biggest allies and on the gentrification of everything goes, turning everything into bland, safe mush.

Hard to believe this was the company that made the punisher game
The Punisher game which let you torture NPCs no less.

>New Bloodrayne game announced
>it's a shantae clone

I mean the giant blood filled boob penis monsters are something but I think this is giving saint's row a run for it's money on new game discarding everything the original game established.
But bloodrayne betrayal came out years ago, isn't this a remaster?

And she's still wearing too much. Where's my crop top for my top corpse? *sigh*

Looks like it. I wonder why Wayforward dug it up for a remaster...
