The fundamental differences between the classic and western games is that Team Silent put a high empathize on the value of a human life and the consequences for taking it.
I never had that feeling of a game crawling under my skin playing the western games because the devs cared too much about making the combat "fun", completely missing the point. Take SH2 scene where you have to kill Eddy. It's especially creepy if you're using a wooden plank because you can hear the sound of a nail hitting the flesh... Compare this to the shower scene in Downpour that not only acts as a combat tutorial but ends up being painfully comedic. It's especially bad because the character is revealed to be a pedo, so he deserved to be killed, but the problem is it doesn't really have any affect on the main character because his arc is tied to a completely different murder he committed.
Anyway, I always wanted a SH game where you play as someone who actually lives in that town, maybe even as one of the cultists. People don't appreciate the actual lore and the internal politics of the town. The drug dealing to keep the citizens under the control? People who didn't want to do anything with cult? The internal spergings between the cultists? But nahhh, let's just have another fucking snoozefest about some rando coming to town because he killed someone, because only SH2 exists.
edit: sorry, I was mentally ill when I wrote this. I don't care about Silent Hill anymore
