https://nayzak.deviantart.com/ Found this today. Not sure where to start or even what to think, but it seems like something one of you might enjoy disecting.
I think we have a thread on him somewhere. In the meantime, enjoy this edit:

Steven Universe also encourages this laziness by not having proper character drawing guides or good storyboards so you have stuff where the characters look like they're eight or super short.

You know, as shitty a person as John Kricfalusi is, the dude knows how to go off-model and make it look good. If you're gonna go off-model in an animation, make it intentional.

Steven Universe is a great example of how not to go off model. Characters are wildly inconsistently drawn, most notably Peridot, whose height and hair fluctuate between each episode she's in. Either stay on-model or go off it as an intentional stylistic choice. The issue mainly seems to stem from a lack of discipline with boarders. It shouldn't be so easy to tell which artist boarded an episode- it's a cartoon, not a showcase of everybody's styles. Pick a fucking lead artist and have the rest of the boarders and animators trained in their style.

Imagine how bizarre it would be ATLA, BTAS or even Gravity Falls was animated this inconsistently. The lack of oversight indicates to me that SU is run by a bunch of hippies with no sense of discipline.

It's all just further proof of what I feel is FACT: Steven Universe is a fucking mistake of a cartoon and the fact that people use it as a template on & for drawing in general, especially when the art is so inconsistent as fuck (even at best) and beyond crappy (at absolute worst) really saddens me on a personal level, the harder I look into and think about things...

I mean... conceptually it's an interesting story, and it's neat to have a kid show with gay major characters.

Most of the problems with the show itself are in the execution. The pilot for Steven Universe looked so much better, with an art style that's somewhere between Regular Show and Superjail. In syndication, the interesting art style of the pilot got watered way down, likely because of animation expenses.

Imagine how much shorter this thread would be if the Tumblrinas were copying that art style instead.

Also, the pilot doesn't have any of the off-model problems I described before. There definitely was a lot of wasted potential with this show between the pitch and syndication.

There's a lot of Muslim anime art (featuring tons of hijabs on the female characters) on Deviantart, but the majority of the artists are Indonesian (or Malaysian) and are thus actual Muslim POCs and not just some white tumblrina with a social justice fetish for Islam. Seriously, look in the related art and such for that sort of artwork, and notice how most of the artists are Indonesians.

I can think of a lot of cartoons I've seen as of late with better, consistent, and far more-disciplined art-styles & animation than the likes of what SU is now. Too bad none of them can really match pilot-version SU's level of greatness, however.

I'd say examples, but I've sperged just about enough, since you pretty much nailed it here.

Which is worse: the boobs on the first one, the scars on the second, or the Tumblr ass style?

Edit - my original post was meant for a different thread, whoops. Changed it to include relevant content :autism:
sometimes I wonder myself, everytime I see a vaguely gay pairings but one of them had that pre op scar, are they doing it cuz they hate cis gay male or just for having an extra point in progressiveness?

Well, I mentioned it briefly before, but Superjail has pretty great animation from season 2 onward. It's a shame the show really doesn't have much to offer beyond the visuals, though. What blows me away about Superjail is that all of the seasons but the first one were animated domestically in Adobe Flash. Yes, that's how good Flash can look when people use it for actual frame-by-frame animation instead of just abusing the bone tool. If you don't know what bones are in Flash, google it, but the bone tool is basically what gives the program its reputation for laziness.

I'm not entirely sure why SU couldn't have just done the same thing. As it stands, SU is partially animated in the States and finish in South Korea, which is expensive and takes jobs away from American animators. Yeah, I really don't know why people, particularly artists, have such a hard-on for SU- ever since syndication, it's been burdened by an unending string of bad decisions. Bad airing schedule, bad animation process, bad art style change, bad management of boarders, etc.

Well, just be thankful kids prefer TTG! over gay space rocks, more than anything - even if TTG! is only really good to that core audience, but whatever. The way I see it, this show is begging to be given the boot with all of its issues (whether in writing, or as specified here, art/animation decisions.) fostered onto it, IMHO of course.

its because tumblr kool kweer kids are, at their core, either downright homophobic and think gay sex is gross and bad and justify that using faux-progressive language OR fujoshis/autogynephiles who want a gay pairing that they can fetishise AND project themselves onto more successfully. sometimes both

Ever since Spiderman: Homecoming came out, there's been quite a bit of trans Peter Parker art and headcanons

...Have they ever interacted with 15 year olds? they don't care about ties, most of the time mommy is going to come by and help them because they tie them like shit or they want them to look the best.
Well, maybe im wrong, maybe the men of my family are the weirdos that don't like ties...
