The first episode M'Benga appears in is A Private Little War, the one with the infamous Mugato creature. Its worth noting he actually ranks under Bones and firmly addresses him as "sir" throughout the episode. The reason he's treated as an expert though is because he "interned in the Vulcan ward" according to Bones and apparently knows Vulcan physiology a lot better than Chapel or McCoy do. I don't think there's anything to the effect of him being Bones's predecessor in that episode. In 2254, yes. Current cannon is he's getting on a bit even then. Its 2259 in SNW, It's odd as I am sure I remember hearing from somewhere M'Benga was McCoys predecessor be it in a TOS episode or something, hence his presence but I can't actually find it written down.
There's that guy... 'CallMeCato' I think on youtube and he made this video pointing out how while nutrek has impressive effect shots they lack in cinematography. The way he put it was 'the old shows shot their stars like stars'. For example trough backligtning the author.Even more devilish..

isn't that basically what that voyager episode did 20 years ago?I think that's some of the best visual story telling in Trek let alone NuTrek i've ever seen, it really sold the primitive fear of a new light in the sky and what that means and the joy of rain a lot of cultures have had throughout history, especially in arid climates.
I liked the idea of the Shepards, I can see an alien culture developing a religion around Commets and alike and them viewing it as a sacred duty to protect them and once every now and then there relegious order selects people to man ships who guard them on there sacred journey throughout the stars. If anything it was one of the more beliveable aspects of a alien religion in Trek we've seen.
The SFDebris guy is so savage when it comes to Voyager.Video taken 9 seconds before turning Voyager into Gre'thor.
My paranoid schizophrenic mind has been unavoidably nursing the theory that Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek Picard are some kind of New Coke tier conspiracy to introduce a way worse version of the product first and then bring the "classic" one back except modified slightly in some way they were alredy planning on (corn syrup as sweetener for Coca-Cola, a bit of modern woke for SNW maybe, either that or scripts written by AI and they just touch it up better for SNW). Ironically, I don't believe New Coke was a conspiracy but this sure does look suspicious since Discovery and Picard seemed so hellbent on offending as many people as they possibly could and cheaping out at every possible turn and SNW seems to suddenly want to do it properly for no explainable reason.Well I just finished the second episode of SNW and honestly I can't say I'm impressed, this new show is much better than the rest of nutrek thats undeniable but other than that it felt very generic. Both the episodes are stories we've seen before which is par for the course in star trek but they don't do anything original or unique with them and I really haven't found any of the characters to be especially gripping. The ongoing theme of Pike grappling with his own death is intruging I'll admit, I can only hope that it has some kind of satisfying payoff and I wish they didn't feel the need to have him constantly spell out his inner conflict for the dumb audience. As much as the visuals and tone is an improvement from previous shows SNW still hasn't been able to shake the lazy writing of its predecessors, particullarly in regards to conflict resolution and character backstories.
I understand that with how shitty the franchise has been as of late people have been left begging for them to just make star trek that "feels" like star trek and I commend that they are listening to criticism, at the end of the day though what does this show have to offer that trek shows of the past do not? I refuse to belive that the only way to revive trek is by treading out the same old tropes and storylines and presenting them in the most milquetoast manner possible. I can sort of forgive shows like Voyager for taking this approach because that one came out at a time when we'd already hit peak trek saturation and audience fatigue (I don't fully forgive it, because DS9 aired at the same time and managed to be unique while staying true to the core values of trek, but I digress). So now all these years later is this really the best they can do? I hate to say it but as much as I despise Discovery at least it had a more interesting premise and didn't start off leaning hard on pre-existing characters.
I won't write it off just yet, its only the first two episodes and theres still plenty of time for it to prove its worth. At the same time maybe this is the best Kurtzman and his goons have to offer, in which case It will receive no praise from me while I graciously accept my mantle of Entitled Fanboy.
In real world militaries that will actually happen due to the compartmentalized nature of security clearances. An admiral in charge of fleet ops doesn't need to know about the latest ELINT/SIGNIT program and helps limits leaks from his staff. Also loved how Pike TOLD AN ADMIRAL "that's classified". These people are legitimately retarded.
We all know it wasn't done like that in NuTrek for that reason. In real world militaries that will actually happen due to the compartmentalized nature of security clearances. An admiral in charge of fleet ops doesn't need to know about the latest ELINT/SIGNIT program and helps limits leaks from his staff.
It's working so far since we all seem to keep crawling back to these shows like battered wives hoping this time will be different. "Mystery box with booby prize inside." The scourge of modern storytelling. It guess it doesn't matter to me, since after LOST came out and permanently destroyed television I refuse to watch any TV show until it has fully completed its run.
I'm not. I'm laughing watching other people hate on this stuff. It's working so far since we all seem to keep crawling back to these shows like battered wives hoping this time will be different.![]()
I did see all the JJ movies (and Overlord, which is also made by Bad Robot) largely because of RLM clearing them. While I find them entertaining, I don't think their taste in good movies is all that good. They're fine when they recommend against watching a movie, but for it? It's still a crap shoot. The only good movie I saw on their recommendation that was actually good was Fury Road, but I have no interest in watching it again.I haven't watched a single goddamn episode of nuTrek because I don't hate myself and I'm intelligent enough to know that it's a waste of time. I made up my mind when it came out they bait and switched the prime universe for the JJverse before STD aired.
