My best guess is that she was assigned to rose but rose treated her like an equal and a friend and that's the main reason she liked her so much and was so attached. She also had the line where she said "Rose made me feel like I was everything" as opposed to feeling unimportant and useless from being a servant. Rose probably told her about being more independent.
One of the writers said that this is the last episode that airs this year btw. They're going on hiatus for the holidays soon.
If this is the last episode of the year, that's a freaking long holiday.
