The Final Fantasy Thread

Recently square said that they are reviving some old IPs, people is in overwatch mode because that means IPs like Chrono trigger/cross could come back, maybe in a good day we will have bushido blade

And xenogear...

maybe
As much as I want to see a new Chrono game, considering the canon endings and outcomes are all such downers I'm kind of leery about it.

As for Xenogears, with the way Xenosaga kind of screwed with everything, I'm not too sure they're going to revive that one. Though I'd just be happy with them just re-releasing it in a complete state (it was an old rumor that Ramsus was planned to take Elly's place and that characters like Rico and Billy were suppose to have a more fleshed out deathblows list).

The revivals aren't necessarily Square making these games. Square's got a crowdfunding/Greenlight platform (http://collective.square-enix.com/) and they're letting some of their older franchises (primarily Eidos ones) get remade by indie developers who want to take a crack at it.
True, but I don't think it's too far fetched that Square would revive one of their older IP's and let an indie studio take a shot.

Now that I've said that, watch them choose to bring back Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

There's better choices- it's a really simple game (as it was designed to be) but the music was pretty damn awesome. Like the Doom Tower.

There's better choices-
That was the joke.;)

But yeah, there are better choices. Though like sugoi-chan pointed out it's primarily Edios title that are being revived. While we all wish some of Square's older titles like the Chrono series, Brave Fencer Musashi or Bushido Blade get remade and re-released, I don't hold out much hope of it happening. I mean I wish it would, but Square has been known for making some rather "odd" decisions in the past.

I know, I was saying it's not as bad as its reputation. I wouldn't mind the Chrono series myself, I've only ever played Trigger.
I think you're one of the only people I've ever heard say Mystic Quest wasn't complete shit. I kind of agree with you in that it has an exaggeratedly bad reputation, but I'd argue that over all it's the top contender for worst FF title.

FWTW, I honestly recommend against playing Chrono Cross. If you're not really into the series and don't need to know the over all story, you're not missing anything by not playing it. Though if you're the type of person that absolutely must know how everything ends, just be aware that Cross has some major(read: important) plot elements cut from it and that Cross is suppose to pick up where Radical Dreamers left off.

The voice actor for Tidus talks about the laughing scene.

Also gives the correct pronunciation for "Tidus".
The fact that so many people fail to understand this baffles me.

Also fuck that, I'm still gonna say 'tie-dus.' I've been pronouncing it like that for years now and I'm not about to stop.

For those of you not keeping up with the Final Fantasy XV stream, they just announced a FFXV anime and a FFXV feature length CGI movie

The movie stars Lena Headey, Sean Bean, and Aaron Paul. Pretty nuts.

Played the latest FFXV demo. I still know extremely little about the plot of XV, the world of XV, the characters of XV, the entire concept of XV, but damn if that wasn't a really fucking neat demo to show off their final version of the game. Also Carbuncle summon in the full game, fuck yeah.

Well, what's it like? Hopefully not as handholdy as I fear?

It takes place in a dream that Noctis has and it's pretty handholdy. However, IIRC it was primarily meant for a showcase of the game's final engine and it was excellent. Pretty much the path of gameplay goes: Carbuncle leads you to an area, you're free to explore the area, there are bronze, silver, gold, and platinum plates spread around that can be pressed to change the time/weather/who you're playing as (transforms you into monsters), and then you move on to the next one. The environments are all beautiful, the game feels nice, and it made me decently excited for the full game in September.

Or with Final Fantasy: Spirits Within.
It feels like we've been waiting 10 years to watch a guy hit dive-bomb from the top of the Hell-in-a-Cell cage. Every second that passes only makes the life-or-death moment hit you harder, and even though you've seen things like this before you're almost positive there's no way they'll have any choice but to die from the fall.

Weaboo-bait aside, I enjoyed that 15-minute cartoon more than anything in Duke Nukem Forever. So things aren't totally bleak.
