The Final Fantasy Thread

I would actually like if they revive their small scale RPG initiative back in the PS1 days. I want some Racing Lagoon, Soukaigi and some Terranigma/Actraiser games again.

Totally unrelated to anything here but your post made me want to play God Hand for some reason. May it never get a sequel.

Yep, got spoiled. This game is definitely not for me lol

Man, that combined with the plot spoilers has left me completely disinterested. I had so much anticipation for how a ton of the game would be updated or brought into line with modern tweaks.

Baaah.

I still don't get it. Is Zack alive and Cloud and Aerith remember the original plot or is he dead and Cloud imagined a world where he was alive? Is Cloud aware he's insane or what? I can only hope this entire thing is a fever dream of Cloud's insanity so that players are more surprised when the plot mostly follows the main game.

did they at least expand the midgar chapter? i always felt that you left midgar way too soon and it was the coolest place in the game. all of the most memorable sequences take place there and it was what hooked everyone in initially

edit: so they're releasing it in episodes and the first one is entirely midgar. dammit square

Zack is alive in another timeline. There are a lot of people saying that it's just a "flashback" and Zack dies shortly after from his wounds, but this just isn't the case. They show the glitters or whatever falling and healing Biggs who wakes up (Timeline change, he was supposed to die), you then see Zack get back up after the explosion, he is now healed and able to carry Cloud.

It's now a split timeline. Like I speculated a few pages back, this is all about merging timelines and getting that perfect happy ending. Aerith will live, and I would not be surprised if part 2 that we play as Zack at some point, At some point, maybe at the very end, the timelines merge, Zack reunites with Aerith, Cloud and Tifa get together, Jessie stays a dead thot - fan fics everywhere come true.

That's where we are today. Shitty fan fics make their way into official games.

I watched a YouTube video of the last few fights and Jesus fuck this game looks exhausting. The vid was over an hour long with the ending being about the last six or seven minutes, the first twenty being an overly long leadup action cutscene where nothing happens and every other second was one of two fights. Who the fuck wants to play an action version of every annoying fight from FF13 where all the enemies are damage sponges except in order to whittle them down you need to keep hammering on buttons?

The more I play Remake, the more I like the music. The jukebox filter is great, but the remastered songs are great even without it.

Also, Wall Market is one of the most beautiful environments I've seen in an RPG. I love how its lit entirely by ambient light, just like a real city at night. Amazing.

Beat it. Pretty cool; just going along with flow. After all what the RE remakes cut, I was constantly surprised that all I remember from my last playthrough in 2009 is there and I don't care bout changes. I have no expectations and just treat this as its own thing. Besides, it has such a charmingly innocent 90's game feel.

Excited to see what happens next.

Did play Chrono Trigger before this and was feeling this has similar vibes in gameplay on a genetic level.

SHINRA being responsible for the reactor explosion is some weak pussy shit.

Barret's eventual, reluctant acceptance that they ultimately achieved very little despite such a high cost was a massive turning point for his character. Heaping the blame onto bad guys, booo.
Yeah Barret was interesting in the original in that the game initially leaves it ambiguous (and indeed Barret himself says at one point he doesn't know) whether he's really doing this to save the planet or just to get revenge on the company that burned his home town. In either case, he never stops to consider civilian casualties even once.
