Yeah I saw screencaps and it's almost comical. Don't they legit have someone being lectured about being bad because they didn't like an in-universe historical figure being race swapped?
Mostly it's that there's a surprising amount of Kurdish immigrants/refugees in Japan. And their behavior there is about as good as you'd expect. Lots of "cultural enrichment" of young girls on the subway and whatnot. The usual sorta shit that low IQ muzzies get up to whenever they deal with infidels.
I totally agree with you on Calvard being half-assed. I guess it was always sort of a mysterious country and they built it up for so many games that it'd always wind up falling short of my expectations, but still. It's a very kid gloves take on multiculturalism. Like, even when they introduce that other religion the Central Easterners practice, they immediately make sure to go "BTW, they worship Aidios too, but under a different name." Which immediately just makes there being multiple religions pointless.
I expected not China from Calvard and... I don't know what the hell they were aiming for. The stupid high rate of modernization of Zemuria does not help either and having sandniggers in the equation doesn't add much of anything outside of saying "look, brown people!". Nord has a clearer culture than the arabian part of Calvard. Not Europeans also stuck out horribly since Erebonia was already basically that, and it has me wondering what sort of noble structure even existed there and why does it remind me so much of Erebonia and not it's own thing? At least do a Zarist sort of thing if you are still going to have euro elements in Calvard to make a clean break to the more germanic Erebonian vibes.
And yes, that they all have the same religions except they use one hat or another is a supreme copout. They don't even seem to have any discrepancies with practice. So am I to assume they all fall under Artertia? And if that's the case, why humor the savages variant of the septian church?

I don't remember a blatant "and you should feel bad about it!" scene, but I vividly remember the cinema snob npc that was dubious on the idea and then glaces the actress to high heaven. So yeah, I can only presume Kondo would be all for Nigsashi if he kept the dignity of him (while adding the swagger characteristic of a melanated individual!).
The "you should feel bad about it!" was the retarded politician that became a punching bag and whose fiendish plan was to fuck with a school's play because a brown got the lead part. It's why you can't take the racial tension seriously. The game tells me there is racial tension, but sure as hell doesn't know how to present it in any sort of way that isn't a joke.
Finished Reverie over the weekend. You are right that his route was the best. I was not expecting a Rufus redemption arc Other than that, I enjoyed the split arc structure, but the reverie corridor itself felt a bit like just filler content. If it wasn't for the daydreams locked behind it, I probably wouldn't have done it. (Even then, the daydreams were hit or miss).
Reverie was a mixed bag but one I enjoyed for the most part. C's story was the absolute highlight though the other 2 felt more like rethreads than anything and the final bad still all being about fucking Rean was meh. But I do think Cs story more than makes up for it and I enjoyed most of the sidestories even if it's just to see some retarded antics I had a lot of fun with the weapons dealer girls trading story, lost it when the moment she gets the gold Mishy Tio just slams in to the shop. and yes, Mischneider was a truly tragic tale.
Almost done with the game now. I'm into the finale chapter. It's okay. There's one really, really good moment in the connection events towards the end that I won't spoil, but it was really sweet. A lot of the plot really does just feel like an excuse for you to fight people you normally wouldn't and feels more like Reverie 2 than a proper sequel to Daybreak. I do like how they handle the time leap mechanic a lot of the time though. You really get a good sense of the cast panicking as they try to figure out what actions they can take to try and prevent a few days' worth of shitty events.
I still like the Calvard cast a lot, even if I keep finding myself wishing these guys were in a better game. It's sorta the opposite problem I have with Rean, where the story of the Cold Steel games is good, but Rean himself is just every cookie cutter Japanese hero from the 2000s-2010s. Like Kira Yamato from Gundam SEED or Kirito from Sword Art. A glorious Nippon steel guy (Who's only flaws are that he's too good and he's always holding back) that all the guys are envious of and all the girls wanna bang.
Also: Rufus is great. His entire character arc in Reverie was such a nice surprise. They did a good job of making him sympathetic, without trying to white wash how awful he was in the previous couple games.
Quatre spends his free time as a vtuber with big titties. Truly, even in Japan, they know the vtuber scene is full of troons.
Legitimately burst out laughing so fucking hard.
I've been playing the official release. It's not the worst thing ever. The zoomer speak and "quirky" dialogue is more in your face than anything else. Nadia says "rizz" at one point. Still, it's annoying as fuck at times
I joked about this before, but it's funny as fuck that characters only die when there's time-travel bullshit nearby to undo them.
A lot of the characters' IQ takes a plummet just so the deaths and dead ends can happen, for shock value, that quickly wears out its novelty.
Corrosion is dumb as fuck too, it's like the devs couldn't think of a compelling way, or different enemies to fight, so they just went "Uhhhh, mind control, I guess."
I know that the PS Vita Evolution versions had voice-acting, not the PSP versions. Are you talking about patching the Steam version with the Evolution voice-acting?
Adding on top of what was mentioned about Evolution, if you are talking about playing that version, avoid watching the animated intro like the plague, it's full of spoilers.
Its been a while now since I finished SC and I wanted to muse on something that I think these games did really well
In the prologue of FC, you meet Josette who is this cartoonishly obvious bad guy pretending to be someone shes not. "Spot of tea?" When I first played the game I was expecting that to have set up Josette and the Capuas as the bad guys. But this game was actually doing something much more clever.
The Josette reveal is sort of teaching you, 'not everything is as it seems in this game, and you really gotta watch your ass if you want to not get surprised." Josette winds up being mostly unimportant. They do reintroduce her in SC (and they do kind of a bad job, I really wish she had been more formidable) but at that point the thing I'm talking about is unveiled.
Basically this game does a bait and switch, to foreshadow the real bait and switch. It's really clever. I was really confused about how they delinated what was "prologue" until after I beat the whole thing and had some time to think about it. Now, I think the "prologue" of FC is actually perfect. What a great JRPG. Estelle is bestelle.
I wonder if the third Calvard game will redeem that series or not. I think the writers kind of put themselves into a corner never deciding if it's fantasy China or Japan. It isn't helped it's the least interesting nation.

There are better examples, the Capuas are pretty standard JRPGs Team Rocket that are way in over their head pretty much everytime they appear after the first time. It is nice they appear later on though.
Well, I just beat Daybreak II. What an oddly uneventful game. There's the occasional big reveal or shakeup in there, but there's so little going on that actually moves the narrative forward. Oathbreaker has all of Ouroboros out to get him, only for him to get instantly forgiven and be granted authority once more. All the timeloop stuff is like that. Something that exists just to have an excuse for everyone to fight each other or have something that'd look good in a trailer. Swin and Nadia's stuff is just a repeat of their previous storyline. IE A robot duplicate of someone they already saw die menaces them throughout the game and Lapis has an identity crisis.
It's a very frustrating entry. I like Calvard's cast, but goddamn their games are just so middling and plodding. This game especially is just the cast spinning their wheels. The core meat of the game feels like it could've just been an epilogue chapter to the first Daybreak.
Also: Why introduce Grendel's powered-up forms if Van never ever uses them ever again? He pops out Grendel Shin during an optional cutscene. But never thinks to bust it out again during any of the fights with Grendel Zolga. Hell, he uses the Grendel a lot less in this in general for some reason.
The meme-heavy localization made things a bit painful at times. Let alone a fucking typo that pops up when you have your final showdown with the Gardenmaster. Which is made all the better by the localization dude spazzing out about how hard he worked. Either way, I don't need to hear Nadia talk about rizz.
Hiya all, got Trails FC from steam since it was on discount and ive heard good things about this long running serie and decided to give it a try. Any recommendations for the game and the series as a whole?

The PSP Vita versions of the Sky trilogy included Voice Acting for most of the main story dialogue that the Steam version didn't include. Just google "Sky Evolution Voice Mod" then just start playing. Or don't if you don't feel like hearing JP anime voices in this text heavy series.
You already bought the first game in the series so just play it in order and stop whenever you feel like the series finally jumped the shark too hard for you.

Ill get the mod, might as well get some japanese practice in while i play. Also what do you mean "jump the shark too hard"? The game from the looks of it, looks fairly like your normal jrpg and it has the chibi characters.

The later entries are a bit of a roller coaster in its quality with some high highs and low lows but if you can get past that it's an enjoyable series. A series that's 12 JRPGs long by now.

"Local idiots surprised that man with the title "oathbreaker" made a betrayal, resulting in many shocked Pikachu faces."
On a more serious note, yes, it really just amounted to nothing, and much like a majority of the game, was just done for the sake of quick and easy shock value.
The whole shit with Garden Master / Auguste just felt very "Who?", like they just pulled a whole bunch of nonsense out of their ass and made it up as they went along. It's gotten to the point where they could just cobble together any old shit, any nonsensical, tiny plot details together into a grotesque homunculus of a storyline, and fans would still eat that shit up.
