The Legend of Heroes Series - Possibly The Most Underrated JRPG Series

I was talking about the sudden white supremacist shit and hardcore pro immigrant stuff in one of the newer games.

They are core themes of the Calvard arc.

Japan still get a small number of high quality/middle class immigrants so their immigrant debate is not the same as the European/Canadian/American one.

3 Sky games
2 Crossbell games
4 Cold Steel Game
1 Hajimari/Reverie
2 Calvard games

Admittedly I haven't finished Reverie yet what did I miss? Does Nayuta count? I thought that was disconnected?

3 Calvard Games - Kai.

Finished Reverie over the weekend. You are right that his route was the best. I was not expecting a Rufus redemption arc Other than that, I enjoyed the split arc structure, but the reverie corridor itself felt a bit like just filler content. If it wasn't for the daydreams locked behind it, I probably wouldn't have done it. (Even then, the daydreams were hit or miss).
I can't believe I'm saying this and it is the only time I will, but the voice actors on C's route did a fantastic job. Truly. I expected to hate Nadia and Swin. But they kind of grew on me. Plus the purple doll. She was fun.

Well, I just beat Daybreak II. What an oddly uneventful game. There's the occasional big reveal or shakeup in there, but there's so little going on that actually moves the narrative forward. Oathbreaker has all of Ouroboros out to get him, only for him to get instantly forgiven and be granted authority once more. All the timeloop stuff is like that. Something that exists just to have an excuse for everyone to fight each other or have something that'd look good in a trailer. Swin and Nadia's stuff is just a repeat of their previous storyline. IE A robot duplicate of someone they already saw die menaces them throughout the game and Lapis has an identity crisis.

It's a very frustrating entry. I like Calvard's cast, but goddamn their games are just so middling and plodding. This game especially is just the cast spinning their wheels. The core meat of the game feels like it could've just been an epilogue chapter to the first Daybreak.

Also: Why introduce Grendel's powered-up forms if Van never ever uses them ever again? He pops out Grendel Shin during an optional cutscene. But never thinks to bust it out again during any of the fights with Grendel Zolga. Hell, he uses the Grendel a lot less in this in general for some reason.

The meme-heavy localization made things a bit painful at times. Let alone a fucking typo that pops up when you have your final showdown with the Gardenmaster. Which is made all the better by the localization dude spazzing out about how hard he worked. Either way, I don't need to hear Nadia talk about rizz.
Goddamn! My desire to play it keeps going off a cliff. Yeah, methinks I'll let the franchise rest for another 6 months to a year.

At least the Sky remake should be fun. Glad that Falcom's finally getting on the simultaneous English and Japanese releases. And that someone other than NISA is doing a Trails game. Because holy fuck, I am tired of their "hilarious" translations. Kai at least has Soldat battles coming back, so that automatically bumps shit up a little.

I was thinking of replaying sky at some nondescript point since I truly started doing the npc rounds in Zero. Guess I'll see what the word of mouth of the remake is.

And as long as soldats are a properly established mechanic and not a surprise out of goddamn nowhere thing like the end of CS1 and Reverie, I'm cool with it.

They do give me some nostalgia to Xenogears.

I wish the series was even remote to the quality of Xenogears/Xenosaga mecha-wise. Design wise they are all terrible. And they blow their load way too fast in giving Rean the super special mecha, making the other models fade into the background even harder.

Installed the Evo mod and started playing a little and gotta say the game has personality. The moment Estelle said "why is my present a BOY?!" The game clicked with me. The starting town feels weirdly peaceful and talking to the npc and hearing them talk about their lives beyond a single sentence was actually fun. Estelle and Joshua are for me 2 halves of one character, Estelle being the energetic and impulsive woman and joshua being the calm and collected man. Although not gonna lie the combat is gonna take a while to get used to and the whole orb thingy took me a solid minute to grasp, but i can see the system being rewarding if you sink brain power into it. In short the game has personality and im invested from the get go.

I'm glad the speech bubbles are returning to Sky Remake because honestly having to constantly look down at the bottom of the screen for Calvard arc is annoying.

C's route is like the only time all of the VA's are good. Everything else has a couple of great VAs surrounded by what seems to be nepo-friends of the boss.

Welcome to the post 2015 dubbing industry, WELCOME TO NIS AMERICA BAYBEE!! If I could buy a 20 dollar stage mic, a 50 dollar used A to D and invite all my normie ass friends over for an amateur acting lesson, AND STILL COME OUT WITH A BETTER MIXED AND BETTER ACTED VOICE TRACK! I should be allowed to harm whoever over there is fucking it up.

Just finished up Daybreak 1.. Didn't quite make it through them all before Daybreak 2 came out, but I came pretty close. I see reception here hasn't been great for it, but I'll see for myself.

I really quite liked it, It was nice to get a fresh set of characters. I also liked the new quartz systems and am looking forward to how they build on it.

Edit: Forgot to mention, but the rate of technological development is getting a bit silly. Like they've only had cars for a handful. of years and now Calvard has somehow paved hundreds of miles of highways. This is just my autism, but I wonder what they used to pave the roads. They're black, which suggest asphalt, but with no real history of using petroleum, where did it all come from?

I am watching a video about xenosaga and it really does seem like it likes dropping wholesale characters and not just attempting to be episode 1. A character is basically just Citan and I can only conclude the gear you shared is his.

It's one of the most jarring things in the series as a whole and leaves a sourer feeling in me with each leap. That medieval fantasy with basic guns that aren't even using bullets and airships being the craziest revolution really got lefr behind and I think the leaps just bring more questions, like your "how are roads made?".

My best guess would be that Arts can be used for more pragmatic use, but then nobody has ever even suggested using an earth art to build a shelter, much less infrastructure, so who knows.

That post about the person having Sara username is spot on. Just people want to start shit, usually to cover up on their own inadequacies.

I wouldn't call that interesting. Lolicon defenders brigade in the exact same way constantly. They're like a broken record.

Even when they're right that Trails has had weird stuff since Estelle and Joshua, they look awful.
I don't know if you can even call it lolicon. At least for me, I pair characters in a game by their development and relationship rather than how much I want to envision them fucking. There are obviously coom brained individuals but they have plenty of easier targets.

I recommend just playing the games. They are really good (well the third is kino, the first is good and the second has mixed response).

So i finally met Olivier, i like his character, such a whimsical dude. Kinda faggy but the voice acting brings it all together. Interesting thing i noticed is that all the healing items we use come from the church which is can be missed since it is in the side quest. I like when games do this, kinda brings the whole world alive. Another thing i love is how reactive the world is towards you. When i was leaving for Bose, some npc that know the characters knew we were leaving and they wish us well. Also fuck Josette, that bitch trash talked Estelle.
