It only took something like 7 years but Ubisoft is bring Survivors mode to Division 2 some time next year.

Of course it might be delayed canceled by then but gotta do something to limp along until Division 3 is ready.
The big Gamescom reveal being Survival tickled me for a couple of reasons

1)They've been saying in Q+As forever that they don't just want to rehash Div 1 stuff
2)Survival, outside of some content creators and a handful of terminally online Redditors, wasn't actually particularly popular in the first place
3)Mere days after the announcement most people have stopped talking about it and moved on to bitching about the shitty Stretch goals event and it's absolutely horrendous drop rates for the items people actually want

Honestly this feels like it's doing to be Descent 2.0. A small group may actually like it, a slightly larger might occasionally play it if it has good/unique rewards, but everyone else will probably ignore it entirely after a couple of rounds.

I just can't believe they announced something almost a year away that has a pretty decent chance of getting canceled. Ubisoft really has nothing else right now.
Do they really need to announce anything else? They're still flush with cash from selling 6 gorillion copies of AC Shadows.

Don't worry, the much anticipated Black and White 2 is just around the corner.
I assume you meant Beyond Good & Evil 2, but buying the IP rights from Microsoft and re-releasing Black & White 2 would probably still be more profitable than BG&E2 could ever hope to be after a decade in development hell.

I honestly wonder what happened to it. You surely can’t go that long without releasing some press content to let the fans know that it’s still alive.
They claimed it was still in development a year ago
Yes, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development, and we cannot wait for you to discover more about Jade's past in the 20th Anniversary Edition!

Not that it really means much other than "please buy our anniversary release of the first game". Considering how lame ubisoft has been for the past decade, I suspect upper management was trying to shoehorn in their bullshit open world mechanics that they just slap a skin over for almost every other game(far cry, AC, watch dogs, tom clancy games, etc.) after it was stuck in development hell for the first decade or even worse trying to shove their idiotic NFTs into it or some other form of MTX rather than focusing on the game itself.

Also don't forget the original director for the game bailed in 2020, then they claimed it was still in pre-production in 2022 https://www.ign.com/articles/beyond-good-and-evil-2-in-preproduction and then the replacement game director died in 2023.

At this point it's been 17 years since the teaser in 2008, and 18 if you factor in early concept stuff was getting done in the year before that. Since Ubisoft hasn't said shit about it for 2026 either at this point I think we can eliminate it's 19th year being a release and maybe it'll get something for it's 20th anniversary of being greenlit in 2027.

I doubt anyone at ubisoft even knows off the top of their head roughly how much money they've wasted on it after all of this time without an intern in finance having to spend ages digging through records.

>he couldnt even get the game right

All games end up in development hell in the same way. An auteur game designer is left to his own devices after a string of sucessful games. With his newfound power he sets of to make the best game ever that has all the mechanics and features.

Turns out that all those mechanics and features are hard to implement.

What’s surprising is that Ubisoft didn’t bring the hammer down on Ancel yet, generally what happens in this kind of situation is that the publisher sends mr. no fun allowed to rein in the retards and force them to actually finish the game while trimming the fat.

Ancel already left the company did he not?

I don't buy any of this shit about being in pre-production, I don't believe the game has had any work done on it in a long time. If it still appears on their books at all it's probably as a phantom project for money they've shuffled out of the company.

That reveal trailer is all that currently does and will ever exist.

What are you talking about? He quit 5 years ago to do some wildlife sanctuary shit.

And then his successor died back in 2023, after another one left.

I don't believe they ever announced his replacement, basically leaving the project leaderless for the past 2 years.

I don't believe that either, and yeah there's just no way any serious work has been done on it since at least 2020 when Ancel left, likely not for a couple years before that even since he already seemed completely checked out before leaving the industry entirely. Anyone else taking over would have to spend at least a couple of years trying to pick up the pieces and trying to organize something, and also factoring in covid being a waste of everyone's time as if software devs can't work from home, that's probably what Morel was doing before he kicked the bucket.

There's probably a bunch of assets and god knows what in various stages of completion, but it'll be a random mess at best unless there was an early build available from when Ancel was there in the 2010s but even that would be incomplete as well.

Personally, I wouldn't say it has a decent chance of getting cancelled. Given they managed to, eventually, push the actual DLC out, a simple game mode is much more likely to survive, especially since the game is apparently more than covering the costs of it's development with their not-so microtransaction skins.
