Undertale

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Still absolute horseshit you can't run away from battles like you could in Undertale, idk why Toby thought getting rid of an essential mechanic to RPGs like that was anywhere close to "good thinking".
I remember being low on HP and running into Temmie and her weird nonstandard attacks and dialogue freaking me out and me running away.

Fucking hell. Noelle has to be one of Toby's worst characters.

The Deltarune website was updated with 14 secret pages. Here are the links
So if I’m interpreting this right:
  • Chapter 1: Your choices don’t matter. Even if you did non-pacifist, Lancer forces everyone to forgive you anyway at the start of 2.
  • Chapter 2: Weird route, the story can go in a much different direction.
  • Chapter 3: Another weird route on the same level as Chapter 2.
  • Chapter 4: You can slightly change things, but it’ll mostly play out the same regardless of what you do.
  • Chapter 5: A continuation of whatever route was established in Chapters 2+3.

So 2 Left Thumbs has always been good at compiling all secrets in Deltarune and theorycrafting. He compiled everything with the new website here.

All this cat stuff would make since if we stop looking at Mike being a person's name and instead look at it as Mi-Ke which is a calico cat.

>Spamton was working with neko shotas the entire time
Just completely shut everything about this faggot game down already, this is all your fault Jewrsh. >:(

im worried the replay value of the finished full game will be dogshit because its gonna be a massive slog to get thru it several times for this exact reason. at least undertale was short
guess i dont really care because im gonna give it one playthrough on release and then just stick around for the datamining
I wouldn't worry too much since Toby has added some shortcuts to make repeated playthroughs go faster, like giving you the schizo boss items on all save slots or letting you skip chapter 2's prologue and go straight into the cyber world

I agree, its unlikely Toby would add filler to his game especially considering everything we have seen from him so far.

I don’t know, the switch-flipping part in Chapter 2 that interrupts the acid pool section always felt filler-y to me, even if it only lasts a few minutes.
Toby's really making it obvious where his inspirations come from huh?
[Not sure exactly what you’re referring to with that specific song, but] nooooo, really?
But that one Kirby-style song he made that later inspired a Chapter 1 song is kino.

Sorry for reviving a semi-dead thread and also hi first time poster in general here

BUT WHAT IF MIKE'S THE THING WHO MADE SPAMTON GO INSANE?

We dont know WHO Mike is.
We don't know WHAT Mike is.
He's only mentioned by Spamton.
& No one else knows anything about him.

A lot of the points he made I've seen echoed elsewhere, such as the lesbian romance being cringy or Snowgrave being superior. While it's obvious to anyone outside of certain cliques that Kris is a male, Toby has tried to push the they/them thing, there's clips of him at some gamecon constantly correcting these 2 presenters using a TTS program. I agree with his concerns about there being a troon on the team and feature creep as well, hopefully it's not taken so long just for a bunch of one-time gimmick mini-games. The gimmick characters were shit and Ralsei looked better as a nigger. I didn't like Susie overall though, she was a bitch in the first chapter, her suddenly being Kris' best friend despite attacking him in the school hallway the day prior was weird and I have a feeling it's going to turn out she has either abusive or absent parent figures. Noelle's an interesting chracter, I hope Toby does something like have her realise her attraction to Susie was only because she wanted to be protected or something like that.

I've been thinking about the game after the chapter 3/4 announcement, and there's a certain impression I'm curious to hear an opinion on while the chapter 2 is still more relevant.

Does anyone else feel that Toby did a pretty poor job on a world representing the old Internet?

While I enjoyed the chapter, after finishing it I couldn't help but feel that something about it was a bit off, and the atmosphere didn't really fit the theming. I even kept forgetting that the chapter's dark world was supposed to represent old Internet, and not just be a generic "technology land". Where's the display of wild creativity and variety of personal webpages? Why does the megapolis representing the worldwide connection of millions of people feel so dull? You know, it's got plenty of non-interactable doors, imagine how fun it would be if every one of them led to a different room representing a webpage and how creative and surprising you could get with those? Sure, it would take quite a bit of development resources, but it would probably have been better to work on that instead of the three boombox guys who got so much attention and don't really do anything. Perhaps, it would be fun to reference a couple of influential Flash games in the amusement park mouse-collecting segment so it feels less like filler? And why does the writing feel so reminiscent of the modern Internet culture? Why does the Queen, with her twee, mildly stilted and sarcastic manner of speech and a quirkily irreverent sense of humor, seem like an almost intentional personification of Tumblr? Why does something representing the fun ol' Wild West Web has NPCs taking about politics and depression and the whole teenage lesbian drama?
Don't get me wrong, Ch2 had pretty great moments, and I hope that the imperfections were just Toby adjusting to work with the new team, and not an indication of things to come.

That's because it wasn't supposed to be lampooning the old internet, it was supposed to be lampooning the CURRENT internet (and it's already getting outdated).
The fact that old internet stuff is semi prevelant is probably because the new internet is fucking miserable and there's nothing good to lampoon.
The absolute nadir is the shitty queen bossfight which beats you over the head with heavy-handed commentary.

Also, I think it may have been Brotoad who wrote the "I am politically neutral so I have nothing to say about the world being taken over by an evil villain".
There was a nearly identical line in his new game(?*).

*It's really more of a walking sim but there is some gameplay

For that, I’ll quote something I said in another thread way back:
Reminder that Toby has never referred to anyone in Undertale or Deltarune as “non-binary”. Some species in those games, including humans, are literally genderless in the same sense that legendary Pokemon are genderless. Both games do this to reinforce the twist that you’re not actually controlling who you think you’re controlling (in Undertale, the protagonist and the character you name at the beginning are two different characters, while in Deltarune, you play as the human soul that’s controlling Kris, but Kris can break free from the soul and, by extension, your control). By leaving it ambiguous, you’re meant to self-insert yourself as the main character, which makes the revelation that you’re not actually playing as that “self-insert” more impactful.
And it wasn’t a convention, it was the official Fangamer livestream for Undertale’s 6th anniversary. In Toby’s defense, it would be a bad look if even the people he worked with didn’t go along with it.
I didn't like Susie overall though, she was a bitch in the first chapter, her suddenly being Kris' best friend despite attacking him in the school hallway the day prior was weird and I have a feeling it's going to turn out she has either abusive or absent parent figures. We’ll learn more in the coming chapters, but there’s enough evidence that Kris already liked Susie before the start of the game, and seeing people genuinely care about her was enough to break through her facade of wanting to look intimidating and push others away so they don’t reject her first.

It’s not the old Internet as a whole, it’s specifically the “using the school computers in the 2000s” experience. That’s why there’s stuff like popups, mechanical mice, and unemptied-recycle-bin’d MS Paint drawings. And Noelle’s blog, while not in the game itself, is a clear callback to stuff like LiveJournal. But yeah, there could have been more Flash game references beyond Sweet Cap’n Cakes.

IT's a mix of both, because as you said Current Year Internet is terrible. There should be multiple scenes of the gang having to wade through 'pages aggressively blocking their way with mandatory subscription panels, being cancelled by not-REEtardera, and so on... But Toby sided with the bad guys. Even better, Internet has gotten worse since the second chapter.

The absolute nadir is the shitty queen bossfight which beats you over the head with heavy-handed commentary.
I can't recall anything of that hoe other than the random words forcing a meme (and worse, succeeding!).

I'm not sure what game are you talking about here.
For that, I’ll quote something I said in another thread way back:
Humans and monsters are classified as men and women when necessary. It's snowflake specials like Frisk/Kris/CHara/Whatever that get a "they/them" annoying label. For what's worth, unlike Citizen Sleeper, at least Toby is smart enough to have people indirectly referring to Kriss and someone else in the same room, as having "they" and "he/she" in the same sentence sounds fucking dumb (or worse, two "they" people in the same place!), which CS did.
