So, I've got a game that I've been trying to find information about; it's called Curse of the Sea Rats:
Apparently, it's a "ratroidvania" game where you control one of four anthropomorphic rat people on a pirate-inspired adventure to steal an ancient artifact from a pirate witch. To expand on this:
The game takes place in the late 1700s, off the coast of Ireland. A British ship was transferring a number of prisoners from America to Britain for judgement, when one of the prisoners, a pirate witch known as Flora Burns, used a magical artifact from Japan to turn both her and the entire ship crew into rats. Taking advantage of the chaos, she escaped the ship with both her crew as well as kidnapping the captain's son; with little other option, the captain requested that four other prisoners track Burns down and rescue his son in exchange for clemency. The four protagonists, consisting of American revolutionary David Douglas, Cheyanne Native Buffalo Calf, Former Barbados slave Bussa, and Shogunate spy Akane Yamakawa, taking the artifact that Burns apparently dropped in her escape, set out to defeat her.
From what I've seen and heard, the game is inspired by old animated films, a la Don Bluth, and doesn't exactly take itself the most seriously. The voice acting is... questionable at best, though there is the option to silence it, thankfully. Gameplay-wise, it's noted to be rather difficult, being an attempt at blending Soulslike action with Metroidvania platforming, resulting in a rather difficult and oftentimes unfair gameplay loop; fortunately, the devs have been listening to the community and fixing the game from what I've heard, resulting in a steadily-improving experience overall.
Despite all of this, news on this game is rather low, and it's seems to be rather obscure bit overall. I really haven't seen all that much talk about it since it got released last March; even the furries seem to be rather quiet on the whole thing, which is a bit surprising. From what I've seen on the dev's Twitter, they do support LGBTQ+ month if that means anything, though I'm not quite sure how much it's bled into the actual game itself; said support is rather token in comparison to some other devs that I've seen.
Has anyone here actually played the game? If you have, what're your thoughts on it?
