Warhammer 40k

Ill do BA eventually and my plan was a Devastation of Baal theme. Stick dead tyranids on bases everywhere, change tactical rocks to tyranid heads etc.

Some factions work better than others. Im doing it with EC and their enemy is IH but thats just techmarines and Heavy Intercessors with a pauldron swap so...less standout.

I love the progress youre making. Keep at it one box at a time (or Combat Patrol, 2 of those is good for a collection) and soon enough you'll have so much to use.
Yeah I'm gonna be taking a break from painting Warhammer for a bit after I finish with the bases of the minis I have.

Girlfriend got me the Republic Starter Box for Star Wars Legion as a birthday present so I'm gonna be busy painting clones and figuring out how to paint Obi-Wan for a while

Is there a way to get the books in a real book, instead of getting them on ebook or audio book? I really would prefer paper. I've looked at black library, and I don't think I've seen a single one of them selling a physical copy.
You have to go to the Warhammer.com website for physical copies, BL only sells the ebooks and audiobooks now. If you can't find it there, good luck. A lot of old BL books are hard/impossible to find and command stupid prices on the secondary market because of it, and GW's refusal to reprint anything only makes it worse.

To piggyback off this, GW Stores sell some physical copies as well. So do some hobby stores or game specific stores.

Amazon may also have some physical books. Used book stores have them too, especially big ones similar to Bookman's in my state.

Dude it's been like 4 hours how you painting dreads that fast?
I bought a cheap airbrush. It's made base coating so fucking easy.

I noticed due to my eyesight and unsteady hand that I'm pretty terrible at base coating so I forked over like 100 bucks for a cheap airbrush and compressor.

So most of the time it took me to paint was mainly detail stuff

Also and I know it won't look the best, but I'm kind of telling myself to stop when I think it looks done instead of getting caught up in the fact that it doesn't look 100 percent perfect

You've been using speed paints for the marines correct? You might want to try using the regular acrylics later - not that you really need to anymore just dont discount yourself. Having even smaller brushes for fine detail work or rims can make a big difference. For really tiny bits I use nail liners

Nail liners are a fantastic fucking idea and I don't get why I didn't think about it.

I used a mix of acrylics and speed paints for the Marines. The captain was mainly acrylics and so on.

The dreadnought was almost entirely acrylics, with only speed paint used for the purity seals and green on camera lenses.

DoW1 + all the expansions, shame the remaster isn’t very good
I second this with one caveat. You'll need to increase the camera boundaries because that shit is so close to the ground you are basically blind to the actual battlefield, There's tutorials for it. While you're at it you might as well install the ultimate apocalypse mod, really get your mileage out of that game.

My EC are Scouring/Legion Wars so there’s all the CSM parts I didn’t use (fucking eye iconography) for dead Sons of Horus pig-dog failures on the bases. That Apothecary who comes with Huron is gonna become Lord Commander Fabius, who by all accounts was Legion Master at the time.

I also hate the fucking labcoat and Fabius’s model is too big.

More a Gunpla question but i want to deliver acrylic ink via a pen (and have it flow for panel lining). Is there a ink flow pen anyone would recommend?

Most seem to be pens or come with their own ink. Ive got the ink i want to use, just need to deliver it.

Thank you, they don't have a whole lot, but they do have the First Heretic and Betrayer, which are the ones I was looking for.

Would you know why they won't do paperback? Is it cheaper or something? I HATE reading a digital copy of a book.

It's cheaper to publish online/audio books compared to physical publishing. Despite how popular Warhammer has become, the miniatures and video games are still the main breadwinners for GW. The books don't make nearly enough to justify paper publishing

I will say though, some of the audio books are pretty good listens, I've been listening to the Devistation of Baal and it's been fun, and it's nice to be able to listen in the car

There's some calligraphy dip pens(both normal and oblique) with some really fine nibs available, but they tend to be hard to find at retail. Speedball comes to mind for being on the cheaper end(we're talking like $3-4 for a holder and another $2-4 for the nibs) but you'd probably want to see them in person so you could actually see the nib width as there isn't too much in the way of measurements available online. There's also a handful of other brands out there to like Kakimori, Brause, etc with price ranges all over the place but still usually fairly cheap.

Now how well you can get the ink flowing off of it... that's a different matter entirely. Water based acrylics for panel lining never really seem to flow as well as thinned enamels and lacquers. Tamiya acrylics could probably do it well enough, but those aren't water based.

I need to get some Tamiya Acrylics, I should see if hobby lobby has some
Why? Unless you're airbrushing them, they're kind of a pain in the ass to use.

Atom "By Ammo" thinner & cleaner with retarder(specifically this one) works great with normal water based acrylics without the dry tip issues might normally run into with longer spray sessions getting them to behave more like solvent thinned lacquers and enamels.

I mainly have been looking for something that fills lines a bit better. I've tried Nuln Oil and it doesn't really give me the effect I want

Tamiya panel liner, or oil paint thinned with odorless spirits.

So I'm retarded

I thought we were talking about the Panel Liner xD which was why I was surprised when you were like "why the fuck would you want that"

I was going to do oil paint but my roommates are having a kid so I'd rather not have that laying around, especially since I forget shit and am a bit messy.

The Panel Liner has my interest though

I guess I wasn't entirely clear enough and not everyone knows every product in existence. At least you figured it out lol. Yeah Tamiya panel liner in black, dark grey, and brown works great. The light grey I've also used but the pigment settles out super fast so you're having to shake the bottle every 30 seconds it seems. The thing is you'll still probably want some qtips and thinner to clean up the areas around where you apply it if you aren't super careful because while the pigment will go where you want it, it can still leave tiny stains around where you touched the model with the brush that thinner can remove easily.

Will look into the brands when i get the chance, hopefully one suits what I want to do which seems simple but trying to panel line with a brush takes forever. Even when you put a bunch of flow improver in with the ink to get it to really move along the panels.
