Weight loss support thread

So after 2.5 years of consistency and meeting all of my goals (and being fucking proud of it) I fell off the wagon HARD in the latter part of last year.

I'm pretty pissed at myself so fired up Lose It today in order to pick myself back up a bit. Turns out the barcode scanner is now a premium feature. I can obviously enter manually and look stuff up either in-app or online, however, doing so whilst cooking and dealing with a toddler means that it's a convenience that I actually miss quite a bit.

Does anyone know of an app that has the barcode scanner feature for free? LI has a ton of stuff like recipes I'd saved from years of use, so if I had money to throw around then I'd just suck it up and get premium tbh. But maybe it's time to look at other options.

Fell off the wagon for half a day, got fast food and skipped the supps in the morning. I felt it, was tired and lazy for a good portion of the day. Def should still keep up with those, I think the inositol is pulling some weight.

I lost about 5 pounds total with 2 recently in the last week or so though so I'm not mad. I do want to lose more and will keep doing my supps and eating low carb once again. I changed my protein shake to just have low fat milk and almond milk with no juice and stopped having juice much at all. Tonight I'll allow myself a beer though since I can't really remember the last time I had a drink. It's not possible for me to lose weight and drink alcohol so I'll plateau for a few days now most likely. But my clothes fit better and I feel better so a win is a win. 5 lbs isn't alot but it's about a 4% weight loss drop which is ok. I'd be happy if I could lose another 8-10lb by july. Still struggling with sugar addiction and that one day of fast food made me crave more sweets the next 2 days

I haven't seen discussion of this in the last 10 or so pages, so please forgive me if this has been discussed at length already.

Have people used apps that reward them for walking (eg: Macadam, Sweatcoin)? That is, X number of steps gets converted into some form of monopoly money, and after Y amount of monopoly money has been accrued, it can be turned into digital gift cards for a store of your choosing.

I don't know if it is a sufficient carrot that encourages people to walk more. If the apps are using the Google Fit system, it's possible to download multiple of those apps to try to get multiple rewards for the same amount of steps, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

I thought it sounded interesting so having a nose at them. I'd be more interested if Macadam synched with my fitbit. I don't carry my phone everywhere and looks like the internal pedometer sucks. [I'm a retard, found it in settings] Going to give both a fair go (not looked at sweatcoin yet) mostly as I'm broke and not going to turn down amazon vouchers or anything.

I used to walk 20k+ a day but a huge life change this last 6 months means I'm lucky if I hit 5k most days now. Hopefully the extra incentive will get me at least back up to 10k

The other month I was walking through town and some really fat guy was walking along with his wife and his phone buzzed and he looked down and said: "That's my 7,000 steps".

To which his wife said: "Who gives a shit" or words to that effect. Made me sad then actually a little angry. The guy was trying and his life partner can't even give him one bit of positive feedback.

In retrospect I really wish I'd said "I'm proud of you mate, well done!" but to my regret I didn't think to in time.

I hope everyone here has some encouragement from a friend or family member on their weightloss journey. And if not, consider bringing someone into your confidence on the subject. It can make a big difference just to have people notice and support you in it.

I'm about 20lbs from my weight loss goal and I'm so happy. I started out at 5'5", 210lbs last year and now I'm 155lbs. I'm beginning to wonder if BMI might be bullshit because I actually like the way my body looks right now. I'm pear-shaped and my ass actually looks hella nice at this weight.

Also, I'm not on any crazy diets. I was genetically predisposed to GERD and it's been hitting me hard over the last 2 years. I completely changed my diet because it made me fucking miserable and I developed really bad food anxiety. I decided to take advantage of this and my natural habits. I don't really have an appetite in the morning or at work so I get all my calories in one large 500-900 calorie meal in the evening and call it a day. I have an Instapot so I mostly make veggie and chicken stews and eat clean. My only issues rn are that I don't drink enough water and I need to go to the gym because I'm still out of shape.

So I’m just under 200 pounds and I’m a 5ft 5 woman. Something has to change. I get out of breath pretty easily and have a lot of pain in my feet and back when I walk too far.

im going to try keto for at least a few months. Never tried it before. I do have a lot of food aversions but thankfully I do like meat and cheese.

just thinking about it is very overwhelming for me. It’s something I’m going to have to force myself out of.

What about sweeteners? I do like soda/pop/red bull so would prefer to drink some diet/zero versions.

should I calorie count as well? Obviously fats contain a lot of calories

Yes you should calorie count as well

For soda, I switched to Coke Zero and Diet Coke and the like, once I realized I could have a huge steak and potatoes and drink a large soda with it and the soda was more calories than the fucking solid food I was eating

The diet sodas are probably still bad for a diet (I believe they spike insulin) but it's better than liquid calories.

You're likely to become even more overwhelmed by keto when you really start researching it. Instead of falling into all that bullshit, I'd recommend watching this.

40lbs lost in two months says his approach works (though I also incorporate IF). Ignore the faggots who say you need to buy grass-fed, free-range everything. Don't bother with an insulin monitor, or buying supplements, or special keto electrolyte powders, because the keto world is full of scum-sucking leeches that, predictably, figured out how to profit off a simple diet. Oh yeah, and then there's the niggercattle on Reddit who fell for it and regurgitate their macro-tracking autism.

Also: you can get away with diet sodas, just don't slam the fucking things. The insulin spiking comes from artificial sweeteners and if I were a betting man, I'd say sucking down a 42oz would make an impact. There are studies that show this to be true and at the same time there are studies that show it's not. All I can give you is I drink Diet Pepsi, but often I don't even finish the can, it's just there if I need a bit of caffeine. I've yet to lose momentum.

Thank you. I went grocery shopping today, lots of meat, cheese, avocados, butters and broccoli. Thankfully broccoli is one of the few vegetables I don’t outright hate.

Don't go full keto butter, bacon and cream cheese smoothie type shit. Limit yourself to protein, greens and veg that grow above ground and you may stumble into keto territory but in a sane fashion and if you commit the sin of too much veg and fail to go achieve ketosis, you're still gonna drop the pounds.

Even if hellbent on actual keto, you don't need to worry too much about the retarded "NEED MORE FAT. MUST EAT BUTTER!". You're not tall enough to worry about fulfilling calorie needs via fat. You'll get enough with the meat and veg. Essentailly, just feed yourself like you would if you loved yourself and wanted to live to be a healthy 100 year old. That particular mindset clears up any "but should I stir butter into my coffee and top up my calories with a block of cheese?" nonsense..

Calories matter. Not worth obsessing over though if sticking to meat & above ground veg unless you find you aren't losing.

Diet/sugar free drinks ok if they wean you off sugar, but do what you can to get into straight up water. It's the elixir of life.

Keep moving. When you're having trouble with walking and stairs, it means you need to walk and take the stairs more often.

Good luck with it all. Hope you'll be running up stairs and enjoying long walks soon.

The best advice I can give to women is direct you to another woman. Because what works for men does not work for women. You may have heard of Dr. Mindy Pelz, she got debunked fairly thoroughly by Derek of More Plates More Dates. But Stacy Sims on the other hand lesser known stays in her lane and has lots of knowledge to share amongst women. I'm no feminist but it is fact the industry has been taken over by men and even most studies are male dominated. She cites woman only studies and gotta constantly remind people "women are not small men."

The first video is the video that got me interested in her. The 2nd is just a good general knowledge dump, the third is much of the same things covered (but) the questions asked are from a woman's perspective so they are explained in a different way which disseminates the info from the 2nd video. The last one is for everyone because it's about hydration and I would recommend everyone watch it
She looks like a ghoul. She isn't the person to be taking health advice from. She is a fitness guru like all the other ones on youtube. The way to lose weight isn't to follow any of these people or take them seriously. They're trying to cure symptoms instead of provide a cure in a sustainable life style change. Going to the gym for ten hours a week eating only kale or steak is not how you get into a comfortable life style. You have to find a balanced diet you can live on long term and do exercise you need to do in your daily life to maintain it. Women used to stay thin by doing the gardening, washing the dishes and cleaning the house. Stop using a dish washer and going to the gym to artificially recreate calorie burn. because you forfeit all the natural exercises to machines. Use your body in the ways it's intended to be used and you will have much more long term success and better mental health because you're not chasing fads and acting like an incel thinking a gym membership is how you solve a life style problem. Our grandparents didn't need keto diets, gyms or whey powder, so why are you looking for a modern solution to the problem of modern life. Look back to before the rot set in and you will find a solution without a price tag and a youtube guru.

Thank you! I had bacon, eggs and mushrooms earlier. I don’t feel as hungry as I normally feel around this time of day so that’s a good sign. Im going to go swimming again, used to go a lot as a kid but stopped as an older teenager.

The fat content of keto diets starts working immediately to alleviate hunger. Your body still has to get used to it though. Make sure you pick up some form of electrolytes. I do Gatorade Zeroes and also take a multivitamin. I do fine now without them, but in the early stages of keto these are helpful in case you run into some nutrient deficiencies as you experiment with portion sizes. You've stopped running your body off of carbs and larger portions in general. It's used to those, so it prefers them and you may run into fatigue and nausea. For a lot of people that doesn't even happen, but if it does, you can minimize the impact without also having the effects of low sodium or iron on top of it.

They're not for weight loss, they're for monitoring some vitals and giving you some rough trends in your HR, sleep and how much you move.
If you use them correctly and if you actually start working out, yeah they should work quite well, with some minor quirks.
