Weight loss support thread

Just wanted to check in and see how you're doing and the progress you've made. I was in the Navy until my contract was up in February and my niece is in DEP for the Navy. She's also doing some training to be in regs for boot. Are you in DEP too?

I haven't been able to run in the past 2 weeks due to working but I have lost 10 lbs so there's that. I haven't started MEPS or anything yet.

Simple but powerful tip: Measure your food and write down what you eat. Memory can be different than the reality. Good luck on your journies of betterment!

I like this thread.

I'm at a point and age where if I continue on my current weight gain without making some serious changes I could get really fat.

My newish job is extremely sedentary but that's easily fixable if I get back in the gym habit. My biggest issue is food. When I lived by myself I was totally fine, I didn't let snacks or desserts in the house much and maintained my weight for years. The folks I'm rooming with however constantly have a lot of high caloric food around and I'm encouraged to eat it, plus I don't make many of my own meals (communal food arrangement at home and frequent free lunches provided by wholesalers at work) so I can't really count calories. Not even sure if there's a solution to this besides "eat less fatass", but it's kind of frustrating.

I drank my first green breakfast smoothie today! I've been wanting to do it for a while, but I was so worried I wouldn't like it. I found this recipe that called for two cups of kale, two cups water, two cups of pineapple, a banana, and two Tbs coconut oil. I froze the fruit.

OMG! It was so good...and filling! I got so full just from drinking it, and I have a cup left over! I am going to try making a green smoothie my regular breakfast.

Don't feel bad for falling off the wagon. Within a month I gained over 13 pounds thanks to the stress of lab, finals, thanksgiving, and Christmas. However, last week I got back into the grind and will hopefully shed the excess weight within 2 1/2 months. The point I'm trying to make is don't be ashamed for messing up as long as you keep at it.

On a side note don't hog equipment at the gym like an asshole, once your done with a set move on to do something else. Don't be the douche who gawks at the smartphone "resting between sets" while other people could be using the stuff. That grinds people's gears.

My group so people's call the kale shake "Hulk Sperm." Kale itself is fucking shit but with veggies it's really ballin'.

I'm trying to lose a little weight, but I'm often hungry. Any advice?
Try starting your day with eggs. I adjusted my diet a while ago to include three eggs, scrambled in the microwave, for breakfast every morning. Sometimes I top them with cheese or pastrami or stir in nutella to keep them interesting. Eggs are super good at keeping you full - I've never experienced afternoon hunger pangs since I got started on this and I can get by with a light lunch. Fun fact: whole eggs contain all the amino acids our bodies can't make on their own. I've gotten my boyfriend on the eggs-for-breakfast diet too. It's only been a week, but it seems to be paying off.

Plenty of water is good too. Avoid sugary drinks. Avoid fruit juice as well, even if it's homemade in a blender. Something about losing out on fiber, according to one of my professors last semester. Take whole fruits if you can help it. Those are also good for helping you stay full, and the sugar (which gets partially absorbed by the fiber and so won't go to your waistline) keeps your brain satisfied.

Unrelated note: I've stepped up my own exercising to six days out of seven. Some days I only have half an hour before dinner, but I manage to get in a quick jog - between 1.5 and 2 miles, though I'm not very fast. On alternate days, I walk. I've been losing weight through my own efforts for possibly the first time in my life. Maybe about 10 pounds now.

The truth is that I don't like eggs. I tried but I don't like the taste (scrambled, sunny-side up, etc.)

If eggs aren't you thing, try some unsalted nuts. I got a thing for cashews and almonds they help fight the hunger.

I like almonds so that will help. I've also have dropped my soda intake for one a week. It used to be two.

Up your proteins. They take longer to digest and help give you more steady energy. I used to have significant crashes until I started eating more protein and less refined carbs (and less fast and junk food in general). I'm not all about the fad no/low carb diets (although paleo is rather appealing), but I worked for a better balance, and it seems to be working.

I'm trying to get fit enough to start mountaineering. Besides strengthening my muscles I want to lose a lot of weight. At the moment I do hill walking/hiking, but its irregular and the activity isn't enough to make me lose the weight I want.

So...I want to diet as well. Does anyone know any good diet plans for weight-loss?

I know these things vary depending on the person, but I figure if I can get a reliable template I can tweak it if need be.

I've been eating mostly protein and have gotten my weight down to 120 pounds and my waist down to 67cm. My parents were bitching at me though because they think I'm not healthy ;_;

Don't forget to eat your veggies and carbohydrates. A healthy diet is balanced with that stuff as well. Also don't forget exercise, you don't want to be a little weak punk.
