What are you playing right now?

Coronachan has me (f)unemployed at the moment, so I've been playing quite a bit of vidya recently:

Doom eternal: at first I didn't really care for it (I found doom 2016 to be a bit of a slog) but after getting past the first three levels the game really takes off and is absolutely frenetic. Broke my "never pay full price for video games" rule and can't say I regret it.

Dead rising 2: played the first years ago and this has been in the backlog for a bit. Has some nice QoL upgrades from the first (survivors aren't completely, helplessly retarded!), the music is groovy, and the gameplay loop is still as fun as ever. Kind of crazy to think what this game would be like if it was made today; having a psychopathic, irredeemably evil black man as one of the main villains? Woman objectifying Playboy covers scattered around? Fun allowed? It's just not done in current year.

Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl: didn't get that far the first time I tried this game, the second go-round has been much better. Just playing vanilla, so the game is kinda janky, but the atmosphere is great. Just finished Lab X-18 and it lives up to the hype as an extremely creepy, unnerving experience.

World of Horror: neat 1bit rpg heavily influenced by Junji Ito and H. P. Lovecraft. Still in early access, so the game is somewhat sparse in content, but so far it's been a good time. Worth the $15.

Also playing some Rainbow Six: Siege and L4D2 with the bois, and a bit of dying light with all the special events the developers keep cranking out.

Anno 1800...it looks amazing and the soundtrack is very good, but after a while it get boring and the campaign is really short. I am going back to replay the Trails of the sky series i think after i can't line two building perfectly together again for the 100000th time.

Almost done the last of my online assignments for school then its full speed ahead for the FF7 remake! I'm really enjoying myself so far.

CSGO, but im realy not up to the level of the people im playing with,...

I started playing Nier:automata. This is the first time I played an action game like this but I decided against easy mode since it seems like the game auto-uses healing items anyway if you have them so normal should be fine. Also the dodge seems pretty overpowered.

Playing Xenogears. Good for an old game. A remake would be well deserved and wanted.. as long as they don’t stick Fei in a dress..

For the past few days I've been playing the Switch port of Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. This was one of my favorite Gamecube games back in the day, and while it is definitely showing its age, the game holds up really well for the most part (minus a few audio glitches here and there in the port).

For those who have never played it, it's a Zelda style game with an ancient Egypt setting.

The best part about the game is its soundtrack:

This game is also on Steam if anyone wants to give it a try.

Before the virus, I went back to my parent's place and got my CD's for Need for Speed Underground, Underground 2 and Jurassic Park Operation Genesis and I have been living live as if its 2004 again.

I plan on getting Shift 2: Unleashed again here soon, if things go well for me. I had it on ps3, but it died a while ago, and I've been itching for another car sim for a while. Recently started playing Dirt Rally 2.0, to take a break from all the shooters I've been playing.

Also need a new controller so I can play The Surge without breaking my damn triggers. The pressure input only registers at about 2/3rd's pull, and that's fucking awful for any games that don't have hyper-sensitive buttons. I could just remap the buttons, but that's trading one utility for another.

Anyone playing Half Life Alyx? Just finished it and I thought it was great stuff. Took me almost 20 hours but there was some messing about at the start getting things the way I like it. Doesn't have all of the features other VR games like Boneworks have but as a campaign and complete package I recommend it. Also a great Half life game and I hope we see more.

The negatives - Not likely to want to replay it (but there are already mods and the Source 2 SDK is being released soon so there will likely be fan maps and enemies etc). There are only three guns in the game (but they are upgradable). Although there are two completely new enemies, and a few new variations, overall the roster is smaller than I was hoping.

The entire game involves walking through an abandoned part of City 17 so you don't get to see the country or the beach or anything like that.

If you are lucky enough to have the money for a VR headset, sensors, and controllers, I would recommend. In fact now that it has been modded to work with mouse and keyboard you may be able to enjoy the game without VR anyway.

Also fuck Hunt Down The Freeman.

Splitting my time between Spyro: Reignited, and the obligatory New Vegas. My daughter has developed an obsession with Spyro, so we play it together. It's kind of wondrous to share it with her like this when I grew up with the originals.

For New Vegas, I'm playing a cowboy gunsmith after reading a biography of John Browning. Wandering across the land breaking down scrap and low level or damaged guns into components and building fresh new high quality problem-solvers and valuable mods from them. Got a good few extra lands/quest mods to burn through, too. Probably backing House or Independant, not sure yet, but the real goal is founding settlements and setting up trade with existing (mostly mod-added) independant towns. Freeing raider controlled wild territories and making forts and mining towns.

Was considering going NCR to go with the Browning inspiration and manufacturing arms for a government, but the NCR's fetish for annexing places wouldn't be a great fit for the way the character ended up evolving.

So much for Parasite Eve. I picked it up at a thrift store for a buck years ago. The discs were borked, and it keeps locking up at the same spot early in disc 2.

Broke out Suikoden 3. Started a file years ago, but no point jumping back on with that, so restart it is. Right off the bat this game is harder than the first two. Enemies hit like trucks and the weirdo battle system don't help matters.

The Godzilla promotion got me back into Magic the Gathering: Arena, I haven't played in about 2 years. Really enjoying my red green Questing Beast deck, I actually hit gold with it!

Also human drafting is a lot of fun, but as I have not played paper I do not know how it actually compares.
