What are you playing right now?

I finished Dredge. I love the 'eldritch fishing sim' premise and the atmosphere is really good. It was a bit disappointing how easy and simplistic it was, but in the end I enjoyed it as just a chill little game.

Playing Disco Elysium for the first time now.

Lethal Company is probably the first time in a long time I get to play co-op with my siblings, so that's fun.

Late as hell on these but I’ve never played any of the Dragon Age games before. Bought all three dirt cheap a few weeks back and am almost finished going through Origins as a human rogue/assassin.

It’s not bad so far. I don’t think it’s as good as people rave about it being one of the best RPGs ever but it’s a solid 7/10 in my book.
It's been several years since I last played Origins, but its still one of my favorite western rpgs. I'd also consider the context, the game is almost 15 years old at this point (2009).

The MSM-consensus GOTY for 2009 seems to be Uncharted 2, and that game is far less impressive now than when it was released.

It's definitely the best of the trilogy, and while it's far from the most open-ended RPG ever, I enjoyed how the questing and character classes allowed you to indulge in preferred play styles. Tho it is rather rigid in its Warrior-Rogue-Mage system, with optimal play requiring you to stick to each characters strengths (such as Leliana as a ranged support rogue and Zevran as a backstabbing DPS), it does allow for delving into more nuanced classing for more interesting party combos.

But the progression/composition of your party usually just depends on what best complements your PC's class (I seldom used Zevran, as my origin was already a dual-dagger elf; my default party was usually Dual-Dagger PC, Sword n Board Alistair, Two-Handed Ohgren, and either Wynne or Morrigan slotted into ranged-support duties depending on whether I needed more damage or more healing.

The DLCs (the complete edition that comes with then plus Awakening expansion is the only version worth playing imo) do open up the basic tank-dps-mage paradigm a lot more, with further specialization, like turning your Sword n Board into a magic-negating Templar or a bloodlusting Reaver who only shows their true power at low health.

It's RPG mechanics are long surpassed by games like D:OS, Pillars of Eternity, etc, but it excelled at what it set out to do. Sometimes, a simple but very well made RPG is ideal to scratch that DnD-esque itch.

I say all this as someone who's currently enjoying a JRPG rhythm game that looks like a port of a cheap mobile fan service cash grab kind of game (the most recent Theatrhythm release), but I do love me some Uematsu compositions.

Bought the Yakuza bundle (0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2) since it costs peanuts right now. I'm unbelievably dogshit at it and controllers are peripherals designed for subhumans.

Bought Cuphead and DLC for PC. Not a good sale but was visiting home and it seemed like a perfect fit for travel. It’s not a game with much replay value and I probably will wish I had just waited for a decent sale but it’s still good.

Also, in the same vein, Downwell is the perfect arcade game, Spelunky is still okay, Don’t starve is awkward on a controller but I’m still trying, and Uplink I’ve started to figure out. I feel like Uplink has the dual problem, though, of being a game designed around you figuring things out yourself while being too punishing and obtuse for it to work. Uplink also has way too long and obnoxious of an early game for what is effectively a rogue like.

Still playing Dragon Age 2. Just got done in the Deep Roads and starting Act 2.

Game still isn’t as good as Origins but it’s starting to grow on me a bit. I like the more political/morally grey story it’s going for, where there are no clearly defined good guys and bad guys, every faction you encounter has a strong case to make for themselves. Combat is still pretty bleh but I can deal. Varric as a character has really grown on me and I tend to keep him in my party always. Was nice seeing Anders show up in the game as well, and I usually keep him around a lot too.

Game is clearly a step down from DAO but it’s not as bad as I thought it would be.

Downwell is the perfect arcade game,
Yea, especially on a portable, had it on my Vita. I never could get past the water levels tho, I think the 3rd set of stages?

I hear theres a boss at the end, I couldnt imagine finally reaching it and dying cuz I have no idea what I'm doing.

I had the same feelings with Inq. I feel like some of the combat mechanics changed a little, which led to silly situations, like when trying to take down one of the optional uberboss dragons, I was stuck in an eternal loop with one character left standing against one of the optional uberboss dragons, and neither of us seeming to make any headway into the others HP, as our abilities were perfectly timed to avoid taking any actual dmg to health, tho still nonstop trading hits with each other.

I think that's where I dropped that game, but I still put a ton of hours into it almost nearing the end, and in typical RPG fashion, the prospect of trying to finish a 2-years-forgotten playthru is not enticing.

IIRC, I believe he's in your party for Inq. as well. I don't know if he has the same personality as DA2, as I never played that one, but he was memorable enough. I can't remember much about the characters of Inq., but Iron Bull was entertaining and Sera, the token lesbian archer with a tomboy cut was unbearable at the best of times (what a terrible replacement for Leliana, who is also in the game in an advisor role but she clearly grew into the role of assassin-super spy well). And not cuz she was gay or anything, just an annoying brat.

I've recently switched to trying to wrap up Resi 2 remake, maybe get that platinum. After coaching my child through her first playthru, I see that Ive only done an S run on standard diff. for Claire A and Leon B, but no other completions logged.

So going for S's or better on a Leon A and Claire B run, before attempting S+ hardcore runs.

@VeePeeN There’s a fourth Hell world of black ghost spirits (can’t jump on them), red color pallets, no solid ground. It basically forces you to get used to falling without stop and using the gun in a controlled way, bouncing and shooting. It’s terrifying at first but I think it’s actually easier. The hardest world by far is the dungeon/horror area.

The boss is a worm monster, you shoot it, it falls, you chase it more.

Don’t know what the problem would be with water world, you just have to keep moving fast because of needing to refill from the air containers, and you want to kill off jellyfish while they’re ascending. Later stages throw big herds of jellyfish.

I started a new character in Starfield unironically after I added a few mods. The game seems to run a bit better on my machine although it has the same issue that Fallout 4 had at release, for some reason the framerate drops really hard after I leave the inventory menu (or even the main menu).

I started playing Delta-v: Rings of Saturn. It falls into the genre of autism simulators, but it's actually more like an arcade game, really. It's got Newtonian physics, but you're confined to a plane (not a full 3D environment), so it's very simplified. You don't have to plan transfers, either, that's autopilot. What it is is you're an asteroid miner in the Rings of Saturn. Being Newtonian, you don't have unrealistic friction, there MIGHT be a speed limit but I haven't really tried to find out. As Newtonian in space, your craft keeps moving with whatever velocity it currently has and you have to burn propellant to effect any change, and since there is a limit to how much propellant it can throw at once there's a bit of inertia, you might say, to trying to move. You can't just move on a dime, because while you're burning it's changing the velocity, but you can't just change it instantly, you know?

The tutorial is awful and at first it's very clunky, but once it clicks it feels very nice. You shoot railgun at rock, you chase rock's innards, you repeat. I assume that skillful play would involve burning only when you have to, gracefully sliding to a rock, and so on, but it doesn't seem like there's any real maintenance/fuel costs to worry about. I won't say there's no challenge because I know that the challenge comes from going deeper into the Rings where it turns into a shitshow of obstacles. At first mining feels very confusing and frustrating, especially as your cargo can actually fall out the back (like if you go hard into reverse), but you have to adopt a kind of mindset. What I figured out is that orienting the craft doesn't throw shit out near as badly and does reduce velocity, so you try to play in such a way that you're always moving TOWARDS something (autopilot keeping you oriented towards it) and also, ideally, moving towards it from the same vector as its moving on, so that when you hit it with the railgun the goodies will also be moving along that vector. Because if you fuck up and have to chase it, you're not going to catch it.

I like it so far. The music is awful and generic, though, I have to put on trucker songs/country rock/prospector music, basically anything that has the space Western vibe.

Orochi Warrior two. its like if dynasty warriors 5 and samurai warriors 2 had wild sex one night and make a genetically superior baby. the game is just perfect mix of the two with even more characters thats unique to the Orochi games.

i forgot how strong some of the new characters are. some will just tear you a new asshole if you rush in without a plan in mind. looking at you, Orochi X
Do you have plans to play 3 and 4? I'd probably say 3 is the best as a total package game.

I wouldn't say 4 is bad, they applied some standarization that fixed balance and character/physics porting issues that's been around since the first game, but in return it feels like a weak entry, the ensemble cast feels wasted and "orochi" himself is completely forgotten.

More on-topic with the rest of the thread. I'm currently taking a short break from Nioh 2, but I'm planning on beating it completely. It's such a better diablo game than, well, diablo itself. Already on NG++++ and am halfway to clearing the Underworld.

i played 3 a very long time ago at a friends house. dont own a copy of my own but may look into it at a later date.

speaking of games im playinng, i started playing a game called sunset orverdrive. i remember it being a lunch title for the xbox one and thought it looked pretty cool. got the pc version and its pretty fun.

Started Medal of Honor: Airborne. Uninstalled Medal of Honor: Airborne. It's just completely fucked, don't know what specifically is wrong but it is not running properly on a modern computer, is eye cancer. What little I played told me all I needed to know anyways.

Then started Yakuza 0. I've had it on my computer for literally over a year without touching it because I was intimidated by its girth. It's some of the lowest production value Japshit I've ever seen, but it's also really compelling too in its way. I've played Sleeping Dogs, which in a lot of ways is the same stuff, but through a filter of Western sensibilities. But what I've seen, going up through the first big combat mission, is impressive in terms of combat feeling very furious and action movie-like. Mostly I'm in it for the minigame diversions/street exploration.

Recently got Mario Wonder.

It's... a modern 2D Mario game for the most part, except for the badges. You put on a badge, one at a time, and can use the right trigger to do something, like float, swim fast, jump up a wall, jump really high, shit like that. Some of the challenges with those were interesting, but for the most part it felt just like the New Super Mario Bros. games or Donkey Country for the Wii and Tropical Freeze. They even had levels that were silhouettes just like Tropical Freeze.

As for the elephant power up... really nothing much to it. I couldn't tell if I could ground pound harder with it, and I found using a fire flower better than it. There was also a drill hat power up, but I think that was in an earlier game though I can't remember. And the last one was another flower where you fire out bubbles. That was okay.

All in all, if you like 2D platformers, grab it if you want. It was fun but nothing all that special.
