Worst RPG members ever

Jogurt in Shining Force
Most armor knights and archers in Fire Emblem
Pretty much anyone who isn’t riding an animal in Fire Emblem 4
There are tons of useless Pokémon and I’m not talking about regional field mammals/birds/early bugs, those have their uses
Thief in the original release of Final Fantasy 1

Any party member who is a literal child in a party full of adults who are weirdly cool with putting them in harms way, (not counting the Earthbound games obvs) Particularly when that child has a screamingly high pitched voice and constantly talks during battles. It's like, we're fighting the arch evil of whatever generic weeaboo fantasy world you want me to save not making a fucking Tik Tok about your cats!

This thing from Shining Force 2.

Some people swear Kiwi doesn't suck, I think those people are crazy. Also May is bae.

I always found Monk-class units in Fire Emblem games to be such pains in the ass, specifically Artur from Sacred Stones and Rhys from Path of Radiance. The only tolerable one I ever ran into was Lucius from Blazing Blade. In more recent memory, there's also Morgana and Haru from Persona 5, although Persona 5 Royal made Haru a tad more useful as a gun-user.

Natalia from tales of the abyss

i feel pretty bad for her since i liked her as a character. she only has signal heal spells so shes inferior to Tear, her physical damage output is laughable compered to Luke or Guy and you cant combo to save your life with her. i guess the only good thing about her is shes using a bow so you know she stay off distance and she can use buff skills. sadly the buffs run out after a minutes or so and its also THE tales game where characters can buff themselves.

They're only there to pad out the Pokedex. That's it. For battle purposes they rely on dumb kids who just want a Pokemon they like the looks of and are ignorant of any other stats. Although sometimes stubborn adults like their appearance and try to use them. Otherwise the only reason to bother capturing them is just to fill up the Pokedex.

I've never used G0-T0 in any of my KOTOR2 playthroughs.

In Breath of Fire 3, everyone online who talks about the game is like "Peco and Momo are super OP and meta" but Peco is a fucking onion with feet and no lines of dialog, and Momo is a fat bunnygirl nerd. Rei the Weretiger and Garr the Dragonslayer are super badass, so I always use them, even though they're considered the worst.

I never use Lucca/Marle in Chrono Trigger except for the parts where you have to use them.
G0-T0 is massively improved by the cut content restored mod. Stealth boosting droid part plus the possibility of getting stealth as a class skill (when you need a solo droid for the droid planet quest use him and there's a side quest. HK-47 and T3-M4 have unique sidequests too but you can only do one to my knowledge and G0-T0 gets the best reward).

Unless you are doing a LTC or whatever, there's a bunch of really good infantry units that are worth the catch up because of how good they are, like Ayra, Lewyn, Briggid, and Lachesis if you have the patience to babysit her so she can become a master knight, and that's on gen 1 alone, in gen 2 you can do a lot of crazy eugenics and inventory management like marrying Ayra and Lex to make Larcei unkillable to everything that isn't a mage or Arion, marrying Tailtiu and Lewyn so you can have Holsety in a fucking horse, giving the elite ring to Ethlyn so she can pass it down to Leif, who will most likely be a Master Knight for the end of chapter 8 with it, and many more.
Also speaking of FE4, man, do Sylvia's kids suck. Lene does her job as a dancer bot well, until you learn her replacement comes with charisma naturally, a skill Lene will never have acess to, and while Corple is always useless being a healer Est, unless you married Sylvia with Claude so he can get Valkyrie, if you want to give Valkyrie to an actually good unit, Corple's replacement actually comes with elite, which gives him a chance to being viable if you are doing a sub only run i guess, and while Corple can get elite if you marry Sylvia with Lex, why the hell would you do that besides as a handicap or as meme?

Gobi and Ox from Breath of Fire 1. I wasn't really a fan of Bow from Breath of Fire 2, and Jean is also...meh.

I'd go into Suikoden characters but I'd be typing all day

If FF: Tactics counts as an RPG, then Cloud

For Chrono Cross syndrome, roughly half of the characters in Citizens of Earth and Citizens of Space. Chrono Cross at least tried to make everyone unique and you could make whatever goofy gimmicks you like work decently well in the right comp, but SoE/SoS bad characters are practically unusable. Most of them require some sort of task to unlock too so unless you know which are actually good you can do 20 minutes of fetch questing only to wind up with another unusable deadweight.

Regarding the categories of unusability, I'd add a sixth : Characters who are so broken that they overshadow everyone else to the point where combat begins to orbit around them and they suck the challenge out of the game even if built badly. Cid in FFT and Peach from Mario RPG are the two that come to mind prominently. Peach has an incredibly spammable aoe heal that removes debuffs as well as a cheap rez and the ability to equip the best defensive gear in the game, and Cid has an absurdly powerful, quick and long-ranged aoe in a game where positioning is key and most enemies rely on melee damage or slow long casts for their dps.

Broken characters, you say? Frederick from Fire Emblem Awakening.

Heck, with hard mode bonuses (if they exist) your standard helper paladin is actually one of your most important units, a Seth or a Perceval can be terrifying.

I'll counter you with most of the royals from Fire Emblem: Fates or...just most of the child units from Awakening, for broken characters.

The princess arc
Wait, the early kidnapping one, or the later on bird-shaped one?

If it's the former then wait until later.

Glad I saw this before posting. G0-T0 (actually, droids in general) get more love thanks to the restoration mod. He also has a few fun dialogue interactions for specific conversations if you ever bring him out of the ship. It's a shame few people really get to see his full dialogue tree as there's some great content in this character nobody ever has any use for.

I'm not as low on Morgana as others here but I do think P5R solidified him as the weakest party member (except maybe Akechi for the bonus postgame). Your main character is just by far and away the best healer of the team and his wind spells don't hit that hard. Haru, however, gets quite a bit with Royal adding more Psi/Gun weak enemies and being able to inflict confusion helps with some annoying groups of enemies. She's also a good option for bosses if you go all in on her Gun skills and make liberal use of One-Shot Kill.

I actually used Haru in the late game since the gun skills are fantastic for damage dealing.
