Yeonmi Park - North Korean Grifter

I think this is a great idea for a thread and well-written so far, save for the abrupt conclusion. Someone pointed out earlier on that grifters are a dime a dozen, but I disagree. There’s a lot to discuss surrounding Yeonmi because we know so little about the source, unlike other grifters that make it on here where the only intrigue comes from just how much they fail at grifting. It’s perfect for KF too, since no other website is going to want to be the one encouraging criticism of a successful, well-loved NK refugee.

I don't 100% believe the video calling her a liar, mainly because their counter arguments are videos of state propaganda used to fool the UN. I do however think she is grifter soley on the fact she married for a green-card( and probably lied to the man she married). She instantly hit her hoe phase as soon as she flew over here, also now she's spouting recycled anti communist sentiment. So I would say she's a lying pick me girl, who's into get rich quick schemes.

I didn't even know she had a baby til I read this thread. From the pics she posts, you'd think she was a single South Korean girl advertising around for a millionaire/billionaire. She's obviously used to a certain lifestyle.





Her Plastic Surgery was a fuckup, she doesn't even resemble her own book cover. How am I supposed to sympathize with someone from North Korea, that turned into a South Korean Plastic surgery bimbo, that wouldn't look out of place in Gangnam?

It's pretty a pretty common thing in upscale South Korean neighborhoods. You go to the party, and all the girls look like clones.

A better source of North Korean information is probably the book written by written by the North Korean ambassador who fled there but I don't think it has been translated to English yet.

No, there is a huge network of NGOs and media companies devoted to spread propaganda about North Corea. They will happily pay for BS. Huge opportunities for someone like Yeonmi, who’s ex is likely a spook.

I do not like how this woman is the poster child North Korean defector who is well-known internationally. Her stories and YouTube content are not credible, akin to many stories about NK in general, but her stories just sound so over the top and are doubted on by fellow defectors as well.

The breaking point for me about her being an unreliable source for all things North Korea was when she mentioned riots being staged in the northeastern mining town of Musan, however nothing eventually happened. A riot or strike or any kind of civilian-led movement happening in North Korea would absolutely be a matter that will be watched on by possibly the entire planet. Yeonmi's decision to report on something that's likely never going to happen in the first place, with her status as an influential North Korean defector, does not bring good light to anyone who actually knows one bit about how this secretive country works.

There needs to be a better person representing all of the North Korean defectors out there who have something credible to say about their homeland. However sadly it's not going to happen for a long, long time.

The people in power chooses who gets the platform. But since the people in power are idiots, they went for something so over the top, it makes you start to wonder if some of it is lies, or all of it is lies?

MSM coverage of North Korea sucks in general. They know WEIRD NK NEWS is reliable clickbait, so they’ll promote the wackiest unverified claims and the liars making them. The reality of North Korea is of course horrendous, but “Kim Jong Un Blew Up his Uncle with a Rocket!!!!” gets more clicks than “People in Chagang Province are Starving for the 56th year in a row”.

People might excuse it by saying they’re lying for a good cause, but there’s no need to lie about North Korea. 99.9999% of people agree that it’s horrible, even most communists (seriously, ask a commie about North Korea; they’ll almost always sperg about how Juche isn’t TRUE AND HONEST communism).
