Fallout series

The trouble with HH is that its so fucking short. The tone and environment are great, but there's not much to do and before you know it its time to leave.

My biggest problem with HH is that most of the main quests are uninspired fetch quests, some of which don't even make sense. (200 year old lunchboxes will have sufficient food to get the Sorrows out of Zion? OK.) Granted, OWB also hinges on fetch quests, but at least there you're getting some pretty fantastic pieces of loot (the Stealth Suit Mk. II is one of my favorite items in the game) and the purpose of the things you're looking for is actually interesting and leads to a nice twist in what the Think Tank wants with them.

That said, Joshua Graham, Daniel, and especially the Survivalist are among the best pieces of writing in the franchise.

Now that we're back to good old NV talk, I just LOVE how every enemy in OWB is a massive bullet sponge even if your gun is 100% condition AND you have skill 100 in whatever weapon type it is AND you are a VATS master shooting them in the head with no misses ever

It's REALLY REALLY fun especially when six night stalkers come from around a corner outta nowhere

Um... they're lunchboxes sold at a general store. There's no indication they contain anything, especially since they're Zion-themed, and the quest is named "Tourist Trap", so they're likely just empty novelty lunchboxes sold to tourists. As to why Graham and Daniel would want them? Portable metal containers for valuable goods while on the march, like medical supplies, walkie-talkies, or a jury-rigged compass. Or healing powder, or...

There's a lot of things tribals would love to keep safe and secured inside a metal box that has a secure latch.

Ok, so why can't the quest be completed with regular old Vault-Tec lunchboxes? For that matter, why does a primitive tribe who's so accustomed to making the things they need from natural resources that they've turned bear paws into murder gauntlets not just make containers from animal skins? While your explanation certainly makes more sense than mine, it still doesn't change the arbitrary nature of the quest, or -- more importantly -- the fact that it's incredibly dull, uninteresting, and unchallenging.

Honestly a better discussion to have would be how would they improve Fallout 3, honestly surprised there hasn't been a mod project to try and fix the issues with 3 like adding a greenhouse to Megaton and other things of that nature. Do a Broken Steel for the whole game and not just the ending, I'd play it.
They would unironically tell you they would just make van buren.
Really just a random thought that came to my mind recently, but if we do get Fallout 5 and it takes place on the east coast again in the usual places, I would like it if there was a group/faction that existed that had recently been gaining money, power, and good press by being a fucking garbage service that runs a large dump/recycling plant that has been sending out people and trucks to pick up trash and fix things up to finally make it look like the bombs hadn't just fallen yesterday.
A mob run post apocalypse fiefdom?
The problem is that NMA has good points and a lot of their suggestions would be useful for Fallout going forward, especially after 4, but they're just so unapproachable and obnoxious that even people sympathetic to them prefer to bitch about modern Fallout elsewhere. They have great mods, though.
The biggest problem with the bitching on there is they have the total conversion mods like sonora, nevada, resurrection ect ect ect so they are still getting the kinds of games they want, made by other hyper into fans like them for free and they would still rather bitch about Bethesda most of the time rather than play the games and be happy.
I liked underrail since it itched that FO2 vibe.
they mostly ignored underrail. it was a great game.

That's why I beat Lonesome Road before going to OWB. That way, I had the Armor of the 87th Tribe and the Blade of the West. Not!Lanius had an easy time wiping out night stalkers with OP melee attacks, and then I used the LAERs to take down targets from afar.

If these fanboys were that dedicated, they would have made Van Buren themselves. At least the KOTOR 2 fans made the Restored Content mod that patched up all the missing content from the vanilla version of the game.

THIS. These yahoos have everything they need to make the Fallout games they want, yet they insist on sitting on their asses and shitting on people who actually enjoy games instead of bitching.

my problem with NMA is that honestly the interplay fallouts weren't even that good. the first fallout was a proof of concept, but it was incredibly short with only a few legit workable builds (seriously try playing melee, big guns, or unarmed) even the devs knew it wasn't a big game which is why it had that 500 day limit.

there's also a reason they never talk much about tactics or BOS either.

leaving fallout 2 which no one plays without the unoffical patches. so its an entire website devoted to one game from 25 years ago. which is also odd considering how many pc games from that era were legit great. like imagine if there was a forum thats spend the last 20 years bitching about Arcanum

There is an Arcanum forum, tera-arcanum. They are actually pretty cool, or at least they were last i was there which is admittedly awhile ago.

They have had 4(?) attempts at making Van Buren on there that I can recall off hand, Yesterday being the closest to an actual product is still a ways off. It's really interesting to watch how they fail to grip how hard making a game is even with all the tools on that site to do just that freely given to them, but will go thread to thread on new projects and bitch out modders for not making the game they want exactly how they want for free, or small issues in translations when they can't be bothered to help out with them at all. and that's just the mods section. was considering trying to make a community watch thread but they're really dry and dense to get into. Funnily enough they had to include sections for the newer games because they just needed the numbers of users. If i were at Bethesda i'd be tempted to fuck with them and i'm largely sympathetic to the complaints they have.

I never said it was a good quest, or really, that any of the quests in HH were good. And um... metal is a much, much better material than animal hides. As to why those lunchboxes specifically? No clue, but I'm going to blame lazy developers who felt the need to pad the quests out instead of just having you grab some boxes from the crashed bus.

Okay okay, so, Im sorry but I gotta share this.

Not sure if this is common knowledge it but I just found out about it.

So, get this, apparently, when Fallout 3 was the hot new thing, some journalists saw the artwork of a destroyed DC and, I shit you not, legit thought it was made by terrorists as a warning. Since it had no watermark to show it was made by Bethesda for their game.

Im legit laughing outload, how can they be that stupid? Actually, no, dont answer that. It was a rhetoric question.
Old post but I knew I had the image somewhere. It was released, leaked or stealthily released some time before the official announcement.

Has anyone here tried out the Sim Settlements mod series for Fallout 4? I haven't played Far Harbor so I've been thinking of giving the game another go and have been looking into mods for the game.

I hated the settlement part of FO4 when I originally played it years ago so I'm not sure if I should even bother modding that part of the game.

I prefer 1 to 2. 2 feels way to bloated at times, combat encounters turn into having to baby sit my followers so they don’t kill each other or me when they move to kill an enemy I can’t target across the map. Every random encounter feels like I encounter death claws or Super mutant remnants that I can’t avoid even with the motion tracker.

Never played tactics.

I did with the first one, hasnt tried 2 but my experiences with the first one were decent. The people there build shit for ya instead of you doing everything. It adds a "sim" aspect to the settlements, thus they run for themselves. Sure, you can still contribute a lot and still has to at least determinate who runs the show (and there are perks to different leaders) but its mostly on them while you go actually play the game.

Its worth at least a try in my book.

The sim settlements 2 was good, the scripting could be a little off sometimes where trying to find console commands to force a quest to skip to the next part.

I haven't touched part 2 of SS2 yet but I'd suggest giving it a go.

I still need to finish up part 2, but probably going to go back to SS1 just because the scripting is much less of a mess there. I have no idea what, if anything, my settlements are actually producing in SS2 whereas it was pretty straightforwards in SS1.

playing lonesome road for the first time, the linearity is okay and more bullet sponge tunnelers and marked men but blowing up warheads with the laser detonator is fun

As much as I like the themes presented about symbolism and nations, Ulysses is just a fag, tiresome, and annoying. He does have a few moments, but overall... eurgh.

I know this is off topic, but does anyone have that Enclave Jeb meme? Ya know the meme of Jeb leaning back in front of the US election map but it's an Enclave soldier?
Can't find it anywhere but I know someone posted it here and I REALLY don't want to go back and dig through to find it.
