Undertale

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I've yet to read the full email because I'm en route to my Halloween reservation but that producer comment is giving me the chills.
I enjoy UNDERTALE when it's unadulterated Toby and it's all very obvious when it's not.
Some random asshole putting his gonads all over the pie isn't sparking joy.
I know that he's essentially trying to make this development team "Homestuck but good" but Toby should keep in mind that once upon a time, Homestuck itself was trying to be "Homestuck but good".
Remember this is Toby though and Deltarune is the game he actually wanted to make. If he feels the producer is going to fuck up his vision I imagine he'll deal with it. Toby's got the sort of clout Hussie wishes he had and messing with it could be very bad for the producer's career if they aren't careful.

Chapter 3 is finally done according to Toby. How long Chapter 4 will take is a mystery... also him ignoring the difficulty complaints is based.
Ignoring the difficulty complaint is fantastic. What I'm not so sure of is stopping at chapter 4. Do we know how many chapters total is Deltarune intended to have? I may just ignore this thing exists for the next 4 years and grab it once it's a full product.

7 chapters if the boot screen is anything to go by (tho something in my gut tells me he may have 8 chapters planned in his mind, just a hunch tho and I am in no way saying this as a fact)

Toby loves his secret shit, so less chapter 8 and more chapter X which will be a hidden prequel or a chapter dedicated to keeping up with snowgrave. So yeah, totally agree on probably something else than 7chapters.

But yeah, it translates to 4 chapters left more or less after 4 and odds scope can increase, since episodic work like this is prone to having some feature creep.

I know Toby said the next update will be chapters 3 and 4, I can't remember if he's said if the next update will be chapters 5, 6 and 7 or only chapters 5 and 6 with a final update later on for chapter 7.

I just hope releasing it episodic like this doesnt compromise how cohesive the whole thing is.

I know. I know. Toby's vision includes the people he specifically hires ...but Toby is also just one quiet nerdy guy versus an entire field whose job description is essentially "Professional Meddler".
There's already some cohesion issues. I'm not talking about the stuff openly done by guest artists that Toby hand picked, I'm talking about weird pieces of dialogue that are obviously written by his team members.
Then again, the awful Ralsei yaoibait started in Chapter 1 so what the fuck do I know? I'm not psychic ...enough.
Still. I feel the bait was at least funnier in Chapter 1. Someone jokingly claiming that he's a PG-13 rent boy was kinda lol.

Anyway, speaking about awful dialogue. I've got some Chapter 3 conspiracy theories that are pretty hideous.
If Toriel appears, I wonder if the weird route is going to be mocking all the Oedipus Rex shippers.
I'm not sure though. Toby IS the composer of "The Baby is You" but it also seems potentially too WTF* and I'm not sure what age rating they're aiming for because it would 100% bump them to an M.

*I have trouble imagining how Toby could insert something more disturbing and controversial unless he starts spitting gamerpolitik
There's multiple reasons not to go this route. For one, the obvious bipartisan fanbase meltdown. The more pressing concern though is that it takes the wind out of all future "shock" reveals. There's no topping it.

Chapter 4 would be about the midpoint of the overall story, yeah? I’m okay with saving chapter 5 for next time. Especially since the implication is 5 is 4 and 5 are both pretty big chapters on their own.

Regardless, since Twitter is a complete landfill full of bots and YT is shooting itself in the foot everyday (I don't even get recommendations on it anymore), being online the moment this comes out will be less insufferably autistic than when the first two chapters came out.

I wouldn't worry too much about the producer, Toby's a bit of a perfectionist and micromanager—he managed to wrangle 8-4 into making the apparently high-effort well-respected japanese localizations of Undertale and Deltarune... the same company behind the absolutely atrocious Azure Striker Gunvolt 1 localization which removed half of the dialogue (including from the tutorial), ruined the dark tone with childish fake swears like "what the gack", and shoehorned weird genderspecial shit into one of the characters—it pissed off the developers so much that once the game released they said "fuck it" and retranslated the game themselves in-house out of their own pocket because it was such a travesty.

If Toby can get them to do their jobs right, for all I care he could've hired a literal druggie off of the street, because he won't tolerate any tomfoolery either way.

I do expect chapter to chapter to see noticeable "enhancements" specially since it seems they will be years apart. It will be jarring if they aren't careful. Though to me the biggest issue is just remembering what the hell happened. And well, it's not like each chapter is a 100 hour beast, replaying what I've played plus everything to the end I would expect to clock in at 30-40 at most. So rather experience it as a single product than in bits.

Though I could just be full of shit and play chapters 3-4 when they come out... I also wonder how they'll actually sell it, so you buy "Deltarune" and you will get the chapters added as they are released or if it's going to be sold separately?

I'm probably not the only one who felt that some of the dialogue in ch2 had a rather un-Tobyesque vibe, lines like : "I have no opinion on the evil dictator beacuse I'm not interested in politics", "Haha, can you help my friend cope with existential dread?" and pretty much everything that was shown on screen when Susie and Noelle were in the same room. "Our religion has no concept of sin" also felt a bit weird, but maybe it's just me. Don't know how much of that is the influence of Toby's team, but I really hope it gets toned down a little.

And, since the game is still far away, why not theorize a little.
Personally, I believe that weird route won't be "and then you kill everybody, and the world gets destroyed by a demon" like in Undertale, but more like "you got so far off the rails, the game is now completely broken and softlocked, congratulations." That's what all the references to game creepypastas and corruptions and some of Spamton's lines seem to foreshadow. That would also subvert the assertion that your choices don't matter, but it would raise the question on whether breaking the rules to ruin everything in the game world for your own entertainment is genuinely worth it, or is it better to play through a straightforward story with a proper ending for everybody.
The other theory I personally believe in is that Ralsei intentionally presents himself as a nice, subservient softboy who gladly accepts mistreatment from the player, because he knows about us and our absolute power over the game world, so he tries to be agreeable and likeable as possible, because from his point of view, he's not going on a fun adventure, but dealing with an omnipotent terrorist who can destroy his world on a whim, and therefore, has to be placated as much as possible. That also ties to the previous theory - when you do the weird route and break the intended sequence of events, he gets obviously startled and nervous. I think that the final "battle" of the weird route will be him simply trying to convince us not to ruin the game, because the only way to save yourself from an allmighty being is by making them feel empathetic towards you.

Has anyone heard of the bits & pieces mod for Undertale?
It mainly redoes the graphics bringing color and animations to battles and the above trailer is for a little heckin wholesome chungus side story with deltarune characters

But that is not why I mention this mod, the reason for that is because the guy who made said mod was just arrested for eating the cheese pizza

Edit: Lol people are finding out what happened so they're getting rid of videos showing off the mod, but this is how it looks like

why do they always look like that
Because physiognomy is true, especially for pedophiles.

I hate how people go into DFE mode. Like who cares, the guy is in jail.
why do they always look like that
Look like what? Unhealthy? Ugly? Unkempt? Looks like he spends 80 hours on the computer weekly? Looks like he was "that kid" at school?

Really pulls off the "don't come to school tomorrow" look.
