Why has there been this sudden push or acceleration to make YT suck more? They used to not block adblockers or interfere with 3rd party video viewers. And then there's the sucky changes to the site, like the blue propaganda infoboxes, no visible dislikes, etc.
The entire internet is becoming more locked down. Tons of 2FA requirements. Harassment of adblocking or VPN use or outright prevention. Tons of sites shutting down including image or animated .gif sites so you get years of dead links across the internet (imagine how many dead links and link rot you would get if YouTube was shut down). All browsers turning into variations of Chrome. Dogshit formats like .webp being forced on everyone.
I miss the more decentralized internet of the '00s. But that means more freedom, which evil tyranny does not like. Are there any chances of any significant pushback?
They recently added a shit load of movies and entire television show seasons for free with ads and more live television channels.
High interest rates means Silicon Valley companies have to actually try to start making money now, so they started some small layoffs and can no longer hire entire departments of genderspecials doing jack all day.
You can also stream basically any music from YT in good quality without ads using uBlock.
I've used those channels as well. It comes in handy if you have the album in another format that's not readily available and you want to listen to the music.
It seems as if they want logged in users to pay for the privilege of watching YouTube content. More about that in a minute.
2FA, perhaps well-intended, proves to be quite annoying. Recently, I had to set up a new account for work-related purposes. not only does it require 2FA, but it also automatically linked itself to my personal data in addition to my business data. So much for the security principle of keeping those separate from each other.
Recently, I've had Youtube claim videos are unavailable when I'm connected to a VPN. It's not even monetized videos, either.
Everyone seems like they started having issues again, myself included, so Youtube probably just updated their adblock bullshit. It's a shame because I haven't seen issues in over a month.
I've done this (+ the logging out recommended above, clearing all cookies, restarting my computer...) and YouTube remains unusable for me. I really don't want to have to download every video I want to watch, nor go through some third-party app and have to mess with search and account history to do it.
