Gays could have easily chosen to be happy when anti-sodomy laws were struck down. They could have easily made peace with the fact that homosexuality is an alternative lifestyle that normal people have perfectly valid reasons to be repulsed by. I'm seeing legislation popping up all over for LGBT "reproductive rights" in the US. Giving gays and lesbians legal marriage status for hospital visits and sharing assets was easy enough to approve because that looked and felt unfair and there weren't any children involved. But now they're demanding getting insurance coverage for IVF and surrogacy. Yikes. Once a few permissive precedents have been made (and anti discrimination laws are in place) it's very difficult to say No when the really uncomfortable (and ridiculous) stuff is reached. And of course, if it's ok'd for LGB, it will be ok'd for the T.

I don't want my insurance premiums (or taxes for that matter) to go up so Gary and Stan (or Erin and Zinnia) can rent a womb for 9 months. And then later take their toddlers to the Pride parade in kiddie bondage gear.

I was actually just about to post about that.
Short story, Riley Gaines went on Joe Rogan to talk about the troon swimmer Thomas. The reason this is interesting to me is one, crazy story, and two, I view it as the tide turning. IVF and surrogacy should be offered through employment and up to each insurer, I think. Agree it shouldn’t be “mandated” or offered to trans people.

It would be good to have a child, but it’s not necessary for me, and surrogacy can be a legal and emotional minefield. It isn’t like requiring mental health parity in coverage (big push for that in my area, that you have to at least cover antidepressants and such and some costs of therapy if your plan covers physical health). No one will die from lack of children, and you can adopt provided you go through checks. Which should be thorough. There’s abuse in my family background so I am sensitive to placing kids somewhere safe and respecting their innocence and boundaries.

I do think it’s shitty that the non-bio fag parent can’t legally adopt their own child though in those cases, you have to bring it and family to court which you can’t do until bub has an immune system, so what if bio mom dies in childbirth or shortly after? In some of those cases, the same grandparents who threw out the gay kid end up raising the baby to hate their background. The other partner has zero rights until they establish. It’s expensive too. There was a couple who did this, then applied for a state adoption tax credit for non-bio mom to adopt her own kid. State grumbled, but gave them their ca. $4000. Smart move to find that loophole.

I think it might be better for the parenting thing to skip the artificial reproduction if you can, and use a trusted friend in your community, someone normal. Or open adopt. A child should have connections and know where they came from. There is a very normal couple I go to church with who open adopted their daughter from someone who had a teenage indiscretion. They paid her costs and share all about the now 7 year old. Mom visits regularly.

I don’t know, being a woman sets me to thinking about the issues for the child and not just “I want a baby.” I think it is more responsible. But for now I’m happy with my pets. Have cared for about 30 animals and find homes.

Yeah tbh I think gays should have been happy with civil unions and left it at that. That was a fair compromise, but gay marriage was the goal and they weren't going to stop until they got it. In retrospect, it does seem more about sticking it to Christians than anything else. I'm not a Christian, so I can't say I give too many fucks, except to note that it does show an incessant need to cross boundaries which is a narcissistic trait.

Especially as the inability to respect boundaries and compromise has just gotten more outrageous since gay marriage was won. For instance, kink at pride. The reasonable solution to it is to have an adult-only pride event for that kink shit and keep the rest PG if you know kids will be there. However, they refuse to budge on even that. They will either gaslight that it's not happening despite ample evidence online or use word salad to somehow justify it. Things like this are what make me question if it's not just the T that needs to be done away with, but time will tell I guess.

Show a united front. It created a strong pressure to “be normal”, clear rules and steps for how to present, and an instinctive check on yourself that reminds you you’re a living representative. That you are in a fishbowl.

See I can imagine how being a "minority" could magnify this feeling of living in a fishbowl, but what I think many minorities don't understand is that in order for society to function properly everyone needs to do that to a certain extent. The issue is now there is this push to tell minorities that they shouldn't have to do what everyone else does. This creates a massive sense of entitlement within minorities that they deserve special treatment, and clearly the LGB as a whole has bought into this and I suspect it will backfire on them if it isn't already.

I know people immediately decide a man-hate thread poster is always shitposting and/or full of shit when it comes to the subject, but that’s the answer, simple as. If more males, regardless of sexuality, exercised self-awareness/self-control when it comes to their sex drives, the world would look very different. Not only would fetish-driven movements like troonism not be tolerated, but far fewer gay men would have died of AIDS from unsafe sex with tens or even hundreds of partners, and not living in a world soaked in misogynist religions and depraved porn would be nice. When same sex couples have "biological children" there's always going to be some outside genetics in the mix. (Yeah, yeah, they're working on engineering both eggs and sperm from gay men's T cells or whatever, but that utterly disgusting tech ain't with us yet.) So whether it's a sperm donor or an egg donor, one bio parent or another is not going to be part of the child's upbringing the way the way they have for millions of years. And the traits and characteristics they pass along aren't going to be familiar or expected. No one is a blank slate when they're born. Parentage matters and expresses itself. Not only that, but parentage is recognizable. I don't know if any studies have been done, but I bet that having parents and siblings that share physical characteristics like hair color and facial structure matters to a child too. That used to matter a lot socially. If you didn't look like your siblings or parents it would be remarked upon. And there were significant social consequences if there wasn't a good explanation for it.

Back in the Before Times, gays and lesbians who were really hankering for their own offspring used to just marry and have families together. Sometimes they married accommodating hetero partners and made do with the limits that imposed. Those kinds of compromises and self sacrifice are considered too onerous these days.

Also being considered under the "reproductive rights" banner is insurance coverage for unmarried individuals to deliberately become single parents. Single parenthood is well established as a bad idea. Crafting laws to promote it is nuts.
