Ready or Not - The 2nd video game to let you flash bang a small child

Just finished the commander mode after not having played since the update that released Neon Tomb. I know this point has been brought up a lot already, but it's my biggest sticking point for enjoying the game. The AI is retardedly aggressive to the point where going full lethal is really the only effective option. You're pretty much always pitted against a squad of battle-hardened fanatical SF operators with a death wish and expected to get them to surrender.
They should've made a spiritual successor to R6 instead.

Also, a couple maps were fucking mazes to me. At least they got rid of the objectives for locating tiny pieces of evidence ala the meth packages but hunting for the last civilian hiding in a closet on the 2nd floor of the east wing at the hospital fucking kills me.
I can say, I'm glad the AI officers automatically arrest suspects and bag evidence. Probably the best addition to the game since the start of early access.

This was always my biggest problem with the genre. I can understand why a fanatical cult would always fight to the death instead of surrendering but, y'know, why do they also all have reflexes like a Chinese schoolchild on cocaine playing Counterstrike?

I do admit; some of the maps look decent, at least in my opinion. Elephant (the school shooter map) and Neon Tomb (nightclub) both really do capture the horror of each situation; especially since they're both based on actual events (Columbine and the Pulse Nightclub shooting, respectively) from what I heard.

I think that, if the game actually had some smaller-scale/less intense maps - instead of constantly going for the insane, crazy stuff constantly - it could honestly be a good deal better.

I think they've made a lot of good changes in 1.0. I like commander mode, the SWAT AI feels way better, and I enjoy managing your team members.

However I am going to echo the common sentiment that suspect AI is absolutely ridiculous, and the levels / story are a bit too much. If every single mission is full of depravity, nothing really hits hard. It feels like its going out of its way, and kind of misses the fact that the simple and mundane can also be terrible.

The first mission grts this right. Intel reports 3 meth heads, and that's what you fight in a convenience store. They aren't overly aggressive, but do occasionally throw a curve ball and act out. You find the manager who made the 911 call shot dead, and it makes you go "ah man, guy tried to do the right thing. Sad" no crazy cults, conspiracy, etc. This makes it believable.

This is in stark contrast to the second mission which reports a single active, barricaded suspect, but you end up fighting 8 well armed and armored suspects. Not even a sign of the supposed dead mother. Wtf?

I'm currently stuck on the hotel veteran mission. Seems like the AI has cranked back up to aimbot levels

I have hopes for the game. Hope they stick with it and take some feedback to heart.

That mission was advertised as a Swatting mission that tied into the Pedo Storyline, but at some point the Gang members were added which made the mission what it is now.

I wonder if some ahole complained that the mission was too easy for 'em, so the devs went "Fuck it, throw in gangbangers who all got training from Delta Force"

I would agree, but I doubt the devs have that kind of restraint. There might be a split of opinion among the devs and there are a few that want to do some smaller scale grounded maps which is why missions like convenience store, and beach exist. But the over the top mentality seems to be the prevailing one.

I said it before, but it feels like some of the devs wanna show off their huge mapmaking skills, in some weird hope that they might get hired by a triple A gaming studio.

If you didn’t know, you can have your officers automatically search every corner with a command, which I learned when I was trying to get an S on 4U. Its helpful once you have all the suspects down and it makes it less of a scavenger hunt for some asshole hiding in a bathroom. They’ll also go through and bag evidence while they’re at it, so in case you missed any M1911 sitting under some body they’ll also grab them. It’s been a boon for time

It should be noted: AI will not collect mission related evidence (The Sniper Rifles on Ides of March or the Meth bags on Twisted Nerve) and they won't open doors to find civilians. I found that out the hard way on Relapse

Yeah, it’s a good fallback if you can’t find that one last person or you are paranoid about not having all the little pieces of evidence(I missed one piece once and it was legit the difference between an A+ and an S) but i would recommend finding all the main and soft objectives yourself.

I've had the same issues but I enjoyed it. Main issue for me is performance. IDK what it is but it's a slideshow for me on 1.0 when it wasn't in Early Access.

Though I have to give it props for probably being the first early access tactical shooter™ to actually go into a full release.

Noticed the performance tanking as well in 1.0, heard others mention it as well. I've tried adjusting settings and nothing really seems to work. Certain areas just drop frames hard.

Hate to double post, but just wanted to share a scenario that made me laugh on the Car dealership map. I learned that if you shift walk, most enemies will not realize you are walking up on them giving you the drop. Why is this important? Well it really exposes just how suicidal the suspects are. Got the drop on 3 suspects with the entire team pointing their guns at them, and all 3 decided to suicide by cop.

As a bonus, in the chop shop area, I had a suspect roll under the garage door away from me, then roll back out, and still try to shoot me as he was getting up.

From now on its heavy armor and full auto, I don't have the will to get these idiots to surrender.

Hotfix 3 released Yesterday and included a rebalance of AI, having played a tiny bit AI feels way less bullshitty and more human.
BUT what excites me most about this update was the new modding ability, modders can now ADD items/weapons to the game, no more replacers are needed for the game!
This has come at the cost, however, of having weapon replacers be broken now, but a small price to play for that greatly needed function.

Necroing this to post the new teaser for the new expansion pack: "Home Invasion"
seems neat, but I dont really have much to comment on it.

on another note, has anyone played with the AI post-hotfixes? Haven't really played the game in a bit, but I've heard they've made a lot of changes since.

I think its a bit better, but it still isn't great, it still suffers from all the major design issues with none of the changes being anything major.

I had actually written two update posts regarding the DLC and the Roadmap but scrapped both because they were just a string of slurs and actionable threats towards void.

Been playing 1.0. Keep in my mind I've never played SWAT 4 so I don't have a good framework to go with to judge this game. I think it's fun, but the biggest problem I have with the game is that it feels like it was written by someone who's 16 if I'm being real generous. It's so juvenile and over the top in terms of its concepts and premises that I swear to god it feels like a teenager wrote it during a creative writing workshop. "Dude, there's like fucking pedophiles down in this den and they melt the children down in vats of acid this shit is so fucked!"
I pirated SWAT 4 a year or two ago and the kidnapping/serial killer stuff came off as prime-time TV show material (basically kidnapping college students, casting paper-mache molds of their bodies, then killing them). Basically enough to have more "abstracted for a mass audience" feel than being over the top. You obviously can't have 1:1 recreations of actual serial killer shit, it's not just ratings issues, most people would find it incredibly off-putting.

"Home Invasion" the first Ready or Not DLC releases on the 23rd for 9.99 USD

Void is using a Payday 2-eqsue model for DLC, where you can still join and play with someone who has the DLC maps in multiplayer, but you'll need to buy the DLC to play them solo or host a lobby with them. I don't know if the weapons are free or paid though.
