Chris's GameStop Assault - What happened? Why? How?

I've been watching/listening to the clip obsessively, and to me, it sounds like the "$42.10/you're too tense" guy is saying "Wait, what does he have?" or something similar. I wonder if Chris already had the mace out and that guy noticed.

I wouldn't be surprised if Chris snapped "DON'T CALL ANYBODY" at the clerk because he thought mall management had received that letter he wrote, and agreed to his demand that mall security never "harass" him and Barb ever again whenever they stopped in to shop, and the GameStop clerk wasn't privy to this information. Chris didn't say it because he really meant "Don't bother calling, I'll see myself out."

I would guess somewhere between the two. He just didn't want them to call because he realized no good could come of it. But Chris doesn't ask politely or offer concessions, he makes orders and demands. That is why he said "Don't call anybody." Actually I would think if he harbored the delusion that the authorities had blessed his actions, he would have wanted them to call so that their noses could be rubbed in the fact that his protest was blessed.

Anyone else wonder if Chris is sitting in jail believing that he's a martyr for getting arrested over vandalizing copies of Sonic Boom? Like he really believes that he was willing to get himself in trouble and go so far to pepper spray a store clerk to get Sega to recall all copies of the game, so now Sega has to take action?

Chris thinks he is a martyr for everything. Sonic, autism, lesbians, transgendered people. He is seething with rage at so many people. The way he sees it, everyone he has ever met who isn't his mother has driven him to this point, most of them as part of a giant conspiracy. To top it all off, everyone around him is too evil to grant him the consideration he deserves, despite the fact that he is pretty confident they understand exactly that he is the victim and not the problem. They all just hate him because he is different, and they have finally have found a way to hurt him. Over time, he is learning just how big the conspiracy and hatred is. He keeps coming across more and more people. Security, cops, maybe lawyers. And everyone he meets refuses to meet his demands, so they must be part of the conspiracy.

At least that is what I think he thinks.

  • Who - Chris, everyone inside a Gamestop, and the police.
  • What - Chris trespassed at a Gamestop he's banned from, vandalized a Sonic Boom display, got into a verbal spat with the staff, (attempted to) spray someone with mace while storming out of the store, and now he's in jail.
  • Where - The Gamespot he's banned from in the mall he's banned from in the town he's a pariah in.
  • When - December 27th, 2014.
  • Why - Chris, wrapped up in his crusade against Sonic Boom having a slightly-altered character design, thought this was a Banksy-esque statement of protest against Sega. Also, Chris is stupid.

I think argyle lady has something to do with it, she also has a piece of torn packaging of some sort, possibly a custom cover or a vandalized doll. She follows Chris the whole time too
I am willing to bet that Chris taped his stupid "fixed" cover on the games whenever he entered the store. Maybe this time he had the sunglasses on as a disguise.

This happened on December 26, not December 27, per the Tumblr video. Do we know when Chris was arrested?

I definitely think patterned-sweater lady is the manajerk.

Something I just spotted, dunno if it's been noted yet but as Chris walks out and sprays the pepper spray, some kid/teen in a beanie is walking in and Chris sprays right in front of him with the kid walking to the right to avoid the crazed tranny in his path.
As if they didn't have enough reasons to press charges before.

Don't know if this has been posted already but the original Tumblr user who posted the video posted a followup.

Oh man, great info, apparently this was like a habitual thing for Chris. That explains the pepper spray - he wanted to be prepared for them since he knew they might be expecting him, and since his delicate lesbian soul makes him very physically unmatched with the MALE JERKS that work there, he had to find a sassy, sexy alternative to get his way. It's also hilarious that he was arguing for the ban to be lifted, when he was almost certainly there to deface more of the games.

I'm glad Chris is in jail - it's what he gets for judging a hedgehog by the color of his arms and not the content of his heart.

Well, on one hand, stuff like this event has happened before: Chris makes a nuisance of himself in public, is told to leave, throws a tantrum, is threatened with the cops, leaves.
Of course, Chris always has to have the last word, so instead of just leaving, he has to deliver a final jab while doing so. Whether it's flipping off people, shouting curse-ye-hamheehaw at them, calling them JEW! or whatever - Chris can't just let go.

And usually, he gets away with it. People just let him leave and are glad to be rid of him.

Well, Snyder once dared to block his escape. That time, Fatty promptly panicked and hilarity ensued (well, not for Mr. Snyder who I hope has recuperated since then).

So what's different this time around?
Chris didn't just curse or flip off the dude in yellow, he sprayed his shirt witrh pepper spray. Again, while he is on the way out, off-hand and without breaking stride, as is his cowardly wont. And, to be fair, it doesn't look like his attack has done a lot of damage. Yellowshirt looks more surprised than injured.

My point is: Chris' attitude hasn't changed one bit from any of his former encounters with mall staff or rent-a-cops. He's still a belligerent coward. The only thing that's different is the weapon upgrade: spray instead of curse.
I'm absolutely positive that Chris wasn't (and isn't) aware of the dire consequences his weapon upgrade would entail. He's still too much of a coward to consciously assault somebody. He didn't know that what he did constitutes assault.

So why did he do it? How did he end up having a pepper-spray can on his person in the first place?

My guess: It's part of the tomgirl/lesbian shtick.
The little can of spray in the purse seems to be part of the stereotypical lesbian equipment.

Remember that Chris visited some local LGBT events? I guess that's where he learned that it's de rigeur for people like him to carry pepper spray. Maybe someone saw him there and felt sure that sooner rather than later Fatty would fall prey to some homophobic rednecks and advised the weapon upgrade.
For a mind as malleable as Fatty's it'd have been enough for him to overhear some conversation where someone mentioned that they felt much safer and better carrying a can of mace or something.

Let's not get retarded. After a decade of living in the Truman Show, it's impossible to argue that anything Chris does would've occurred naturally. Plus, how many times have we been amazed at something Chris did without any prompting whatsoever only to find months later that he got talked/goaded/manipulated into it?

Chris's mind is like play-do: easily bent out of shape and very, very malleable. Everything we know about him leads to the same conclusion: He's never had an original thought or idea in his life. Everything he ever did was a copy of something someone else has done before.
You could say that for Chris, being prompted IS what 'occurs naturally'.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn he's only had the mace for a short period of time, if he'd acquired it in 2004 this would have happened in 2004.

I absolutely agree. One more pointer towards my guess that the pepper spray is a result of Fatty attending LGBT events this fall.

I think Chris was intending to vandalize the display and brought the pepper spray to "protect" himself from any confrontation (and yes, I do believe he's :stupid: enough to use it on security (maybe even JERKOPS) should they appear).

In a day and age where law enforcement opens fire on anyone who so much as waves a cane or toy gun around, Chris should count his blessings his sorry ass made it to it's jail cell.

This. Mace turns up a few times in stuff like Family Guy and its just a orange looking spray that makes the victim go down screaming, nothing about the horrible stinging or possible blindness
That and I'm pretty sure Chris got some weak stuff you can buy in a cheap shop, probably in hot pink or something to match. He probably thinks he should use a more 'feminine' weapon than the old pocket knife

That's probably for the best. If he'd have pulled the knife this may have ended somewhat differently. I think people are right when they say he probably has no idea of the particular effects of whatever he sprayed the poor dude with. I'm just looking forward to whatever supremely cringe worthy excuse for the whole thing he comes up with. Just to clarify (britfag) the video arraignment will be a matter of public record and therefore make its way swiftly to YouTube am I right?

Nah, it's just the first rule of the Chandlers:
"If it doesn't affect me, it's not my problem."

I just don't see a reason to give Chris any benefit of the doubt here. He's repeatedly exposed his asshole behaviour and here he used pepper spray against someone.

The only thing that I might count is his 'tism giving him problems to understand the situation and feel more threatened than he actually is, but he doesn't look threatened, panicked or fearful. He just does a sassy stride towards the door and non-challantly maces a poor sap in the face on his way out.
He looks like he's trying to be dominant. I work in security, body language is the first thing we look for and you can tell the second the video starts that he's in 'fight' mode. He's upright, loud and striding confidently, his adrenaline is pumping and he's ready to hurt somebody. He has the spray ready and he wants to use it. Since he gets to the front of the store without being blocked thereby losing any chance of a "legitimate" target he directs his attack at the nearest target of convenience. Luckily Chris can't aim for shit and it looks like the dude didn't cop it full in the face but even the aerosol vapour of that stuff is nasty.

Just as an afterthought, if Chris deployed proper mace in a closed environment surely they've had to close the shop for cleanup? In the UK if mace is deployed in a closed environment it's considered a chemical hazard and treated as such, assuming it's the same in the USA the shop may have lost business and stock. Also, the employee has been injured by a member of the public whilst at work ergo he can sue Chris for damages AND sue his employer for not ensuring his safety.

I have to wonder if Chris didn't subconsciously want a vacation in jail. He didn't get his boyfriend-free girl, he didn't get Sonic's arms restored, and probably didn't get anything else for xmas that he felt entitled to. Isn't there a load of work scheduled to begin with moving back into 14BLC? Why should he now tire himself moving the hoard after getting the short-end once again? Spending a few weeks or months in jail might be far less stressful than moving a grand number of pounds from the apartment back to the house under the demands of Barb. Moving is a horrible job for anyone, it'd be far worse for a couple of loonies trying to move a hoard into a hoard. Wouldn't you prefer jail to moving tons of crap under Barb's direction?

Hope he doesn't have an outstanding amount of eBay orders that he promised to fill the first of January, if he's still incarcerated his account won't be able to withstand the negative hits. Hell, he'll be too stressed if he is out and will beg for the usual extensions, get the usual complaints and further his downward stress-spiral.

That would require Chris being aware of the possible outcome of his actions.
I'm pretty sure that there's no part of Chris - conscious or subconscious - able to make the assumption that assaulting a manajerk would result in him being arrested.
He's done the same - to him, at least - in the past various times without suffering any consequences.
I bet he was absolutely, totally surprised when he was arrested.

As to Chris knocking on a parked car's window: We don't know if that was really him. If it was, well, maybe he noticed cops bearing down on him in the parking lot, realized he wouldn't make it to his car and panicked, deciding to ask the next best person to help spirit him away.
