Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Every time some twat/relation/both rants at me for “wasting my educashunnn” and “not contributing to your family”, I’m inwardly torn between bursting into tears and gouging their fucking eyes out.

Either you raise your kids yourself, or you pay some strange-ass bitch to do it for you. Unless you are very, very wealthy, said bitch is earning maaaaybe $10/hour for wrangling your kid, in addition to 15 others. This is somehow more "progressive" than ~*staying home and baking cookies*~

Ngl, I fully intend to answer any such bullshit with a deadpan "you don't love your kids." Remember: you're married with kids now. You are officially free of the oMg SiStErHoOd grrrl power bullshit.

How do people feel about reopening? I realize that we can't keep doing this until we get a vaccine, but it does seem inevitable that more people will die--but people will die if we don't reopen, not only from economic effects but also because basically every medical procedure has been cancelled unless you're actively dying.

I'm of the belief that economic devastation will kill more people than this virus could.

Also, forced isolation/full-on draconian measures are less effective than just promoting social distancing. We need to have some people become immune to this thing, as that gives the virus a much higher chance of mutating into something less dangerous. It also gives the doctors more antibodies and plasma to work with to treat the more critical patients.

Herd immunity is not the answer, as that overwhelms the healthcare system ... But full-on lockdowns don't work either. There needs to be a balance ... And I would say that about a month ago we had that balance, as something clearly needed to be done. We simply can't drag this out for much longer though. We cannot function as a society if we continue this trend of long grocery lines, panic buying, supply shortages, high unemployment, etc. We can't allow this to be the new normal.

Trump was completely right a few weeks ago when he said that we can't allow the cure to be worse than the disease.

At some point, deaths from the lockdown's economic effects will outweigh the additional deaths from reopening. Determining exactly what the point is is non-trivial but I'd say wait for the peak to pass plus the worst-case incubation period of the virus and then re-open in stages. If it all goes to shit and deaths from the virus spike, reverse those stages.

Actually I suspect this is exactly what will happen.

The NHS must be perfect, lad! When the BBC mentions it they always describe it is a 'much loved national institution'. The only other times they use that expression are for the BBC itself. And for Jimmy Savile, up to the point that he died and the truth about him came out. And then, like Iraqis after the fall of Saddam Hussein, his approval rating went from 100% to 0% in an instant among BBC staff.

I'm pretty sure if very well paid BBC journalists tell us the NHS is perfect and just needs more money from the government, much like the BBC itself, they're not being in any way disingenuous or self-serving.

Two things you non-bong speds out there need to know:

1: NHS -

They do a great job a lot of the time, but it's a lottery. Yes, the management is absolutely overbearing and it's so inefficient it makes you wonder if they want it to fail so it can be privatised and sold off. A lot of the nurses are bitches, but a lot of them are proper 'angels' as well. It's a bit like the police force. A lot of people joining up for that gig do genuinely want to do good for wider society and see it as a vocational thing. Then life kicks the shit out of you, or rather the punters do. You realise most people are scum so you succumb to the negs. It takes a special sort of idealist who does well after many years in either of those noble cadres.

The NHS also probably pays out more per year in compensation than they do for the wages of the nurses/doctors/managers. So much incompetence all around and it's not hard to make a claim for anything should you come in to contact with them. They probably fucked something up. They tried to starve one of my relatives to death and when we tried to get them out of the hospital they wouldn't let him go. They wanted to keep on starving him so he died. We got him out. He looked like something out of Belson. Lawsuits and legal shenanigans are in the process of being made.

But for a lot of people the NHS do a great job. Eh, it's free! As in beer, for most people. They have some very competent and qualified people in a lot of its structure. Just don't get caught in the bad part. You pays yer money, you takes yer chances...

2: BBC -

There is a good way to mark anyone's left/right leaning tendencies, by stealth. And here's how you do it: You ask said person whether you think the BBC is left leaning or right leaning. If they say left, you know they are a rightie, if they say right, you know you are dealing with a lefty.

The BBC is, and always has been, in the middle. By that I mean, not that it is Centrist as such, but that it leans to the left on some issues and to the right on others. They still get to play the field and pump the propaganda of course, so it matters little. But those that rabidly declare 'the BBC is a faschist right wing conspiracy' are only just as mad as those that shout out 'the BBC is a red
Commie mouthpiece'.

I don't like the BBC. I don't defend it. But it's true, when you have a semblance of balance yourself in the political realm, you can see the BBC playing both sides. I'm quite politically fuckwitted, and even I can see that. You won't catch me in a deep intellectual political debate, but it's pretty obvious what the beeb are up to. And it's important to remember that because that is very much part of their Modus Operandi. They know when to keep it shut and they know when to pump the propaganda d'jour.

They are pompous pricks for the most part. But they do a lot of good work as well.

So I guess that's something both the NHS and the BBC have in common.

(like most people when it comes down to it)

Positive/funny/uplifting/hopeful videos first: This guy is probably the luckiest bugger on earth to be stuck somewhere during the Covid-19 pandemic because he's stuck at an Ayahuasca retreat in Peru, LMAO. Very nice place judging from his video. He was already trying to "expand his consciousness", now he spend some more time expanding it a little more, LMAO.

More positive news: India has relaxed its export ban on hydroxychloroquine:

Now why would India do this if hydroxychloroquine was as useless as the MSM would have us believe...

More on the HCQ controversy:

Here's another doctor claiming adecdotal evidence in favour of hydroxychloroquine combined with zinc, which is what we discussed earlier in the thread with regards to many people being mineral deficient and needing zinc supplementation:

As you can see, this doctor too says that the HCQ+zinc combo should be reserved for people who are sick and not be wasted on prophylactic use, "otherwise we're gonna blow through our supply."

I don't people to get stuck on hydroxycloroquine just because President Trump mentioned it (and that's the only reason there is such a controversy around it), so I am going to try and find videos about other drugs that are being tested and/or are considered for trials. If you've been keeping up with Youtube you might have seen all the videos about blood plasma. I'm not gonna post those because there are so many of them, go to Youtube and find them if you're interested. Here's a news item about the experimental remdesivir trial:

Check out what this doctor said about getting VIP patients: "All protocol went out the window", ie, VIPs get the extra special treatment that great unwashed don't get.

Deep dive into the cruise line operators:

And remember, just 5 minutes ago the public were being told the likes of this (this was posted to Yahoo from NYT:

The general public will only end up more confused because of such mixed messages.

There's supposed to be a Canadian blood test based one but Health Canada won't certify it, because I assume it's not as accurate as they want. There's also a second one that's a little box that requires swabs still. The second cube one has been certified by health Canada but currently all the units are spoken for to the point that BC isn't able to get one.

I'm not saying forever lockdown, I don't think anyone really wants that, but you still need to provide some additional wiggle room where there's less risk and time for the items required to mass and effectively test the population to be made. There's already been crazy strides medically in this already, a month or two more of social distancing and other measures to have an effective / expedited system that can be rolled out before returning things to as normal as they can be will not end the world.

Here's a link to the article. https://www.scmp.com/news/china/soc...uld-target-immune-system-targeting-protective Can't seem to find the study. Makes me wonder though, people who are "immune" to aids aren't actually immune just the receptors that the virus attaches too are too short meaning the virus can't attack them. I wonder if their might be another genetic mutation that would allow people to be immune to the most damaging effect of covid19.

The lockdowns will be lifted sooner or later. While I'm not too bothered by it I do wonder if it's really possible to keep the lockdowns for the whole year. I don't think so tbh

Personally, I have no issues in wearing face masks and gloves outside once the lockdown ends. At least it will double as a privacy measure against the governmental attempts to track everyone.

The great brit bong double bind:

Oi mate, you got a loicense for that face, er, I mean, show us yer mug you mug so we can check it on our here database of wanted crims.

I'm sorry officer, I am not permitted to remove this here social protective device under pain of law!

(officer still gets truncheon out and beats the crap out of cocky citizen)

(citizen cries out: AM I BEING ARRESTED OFFICER?)

It goes even farther than that. Most of those "Veterans" are supposedly staunchly Pro-Capitalism, but they conveniently 'forgot' that the military they're so fond of telling stories about, is 100% totalitarian socialsim. Nobody gets to 'vote' on leadership, or decide where they want to live, or what job they do. The military base is "commons" from one end to the other, with schools, theaters, gyms, parks & rec, and 'free' housing.

https://reddit.com/r/worldpolitics
Have never forgotten it at all. Pointed it out at times to colleagues.

Some clarifications. If you have a family and/or of at least a certain rank you do get to decide where you want to live, normally. Bases have only a limited amount of family housing available. Furthermore, that housing is divided up by rank and family size. Depending on the cost of living in the area, base housing will vary in attraction. The housing is "free" only in that you don't pay rent, electricity, gas, water. sewer, or trash. Instead, you don't get your housing allowance. Only lived in base housing once, at the last assignment. Very nice, historic house, for senior officers. The three of us lived in a three-bedroom, 1850 square-foot house on a street with just ten houses total. Base is on top of a hill. Had a great view of the bay. On the 4th of July no better place to watch the fireworks.

No, you don't necessarily decide what job you'll do. But the higher you go, the more the assignment process becomes a hiring process. Your boss is doing some scouting around for you. You stay in touch with people you know and the guy/gal at the personnel center. There can be a lot of behind-the-scenes maneuvering. And sometimes "they" say, "You are in this specialty, have X background and qualifications. Base Y needs just that. Off you go." That happens, too. Needs of the service come first. In that case, about all you and your boss can do is negotiate when you have to be at the new base.

And, again, if you are of high enough rank, when you get to the new base/job, you and your new boss usually sit down together and decide what you'll be doing. Every assignment has a written description of the duties to be performed. However, by the time you get there you may well end up doing some different duties, or some additional duties. Sometimes you are put into a one-deep job for which you have received no training whatsoever, and given only general guidance as to what you are needed to do. You figure it out. You find people in other specialties who can help. If lucky, you can contact your predecessor for some background/suggestions. You make your own job. These can be some of the very best jobs to have in the military, if you have a supportive command.

You are quite right that you don't get to formally vote on your leadership. But you don't do that in civilian jobs, either. Sometimes you have great leaders. Sometimes you have good leaders. Sometimes you have bad leaders. Usually you will see some mix of great/good/bad leaders, just like in a civilian job. The higher you go, the more likely you will be in a leadership position. Hopefully you have absorbed the lessons learned from people who led you in the past as to what to do or not do. You do your best and give it your best - mission first, people always. Least that's the way I did it when leading/commanding.

While you don't get to formally vote on your leadership, at times you can informally vote to get a toxic leader out. Have known of at least one case where a lieutenant had pissed off so many of the people working for him that the senior noncommissioned officers went to the unit's chief of operations, usually a major or lieutenant colonel, and told that officer the lieutenant needs to go before someone kills him. That lieutenant ended up as the commander's executive officer, even though the unit was short of officers in his specialty. This is not something that is done lightly. You really have to work to have such a thing happen to you. And sometimes nothing will happen because the officer in question is the commander's "golden boy/girl". But you also have the same sorts of things happen in civilian jobs.

Yes, we certainly have our base exchanges, commissaries, gyms, theaters, gas stations, child care centers, but they are open to all ranks and their families. Compared to militaries of "socialist" countries, US military facilities are incomparably better. US military members are much better paid and have a better quality of life. Even forty years ago, I never knew of any US officer, of any rank, that had to live with his family in one or two rooms in a run-down apartment building. Happened all the time with Soviet officers. Likely still happening now to a certain extent with Russian officers.

With so many countries shutting down, if one gets the jump by a few weeks on starting back up, it will have a real economic edge.

That was what the chinks hoped. But they squandered every chance they got. Spain reopened economically last weekend so we'll see if it's true. For now it seems our economy will still hurt. But we're ready.

Btw no spike has been seen yet so while I don't wanna prematurely celebrate I think we're seeing a fairly solid step forward. And thursday PSOE and PP will negotiate and now PP knows it's gonna get called out if it doesn't do something. So I think negotiations might go better than expected. They already lost the radicals to Vox they can't afford to loose the moderates.

Listen to what the cop is saying in those videos. This is blatantly unconstitutional. I hope that people are using those Trumpbux to purchase rifles and handguns because you may need them in the future (for hunting food and target practice at a sanctioned gun range).

Note to my personal FBI agent: I'm not encouraging violence.

Look for more and more and more of such pushback, nationwide. Not going to stop. We aren't Chinese.

Added: Just got carton with 30 boxes of tissues. Sharing with neighbors, taking some to son. Quick delivery.

Added: Our state's fuhrer has presented his list of "conditions" to be met before releasing the state from house arrest. No, Newsom, you fuck, we are NOT "all in this together". YOUR paycheck always comes. Pushback's going to keep coming.

And here's what people seem to be doing with their stimulus checks. Absolutely no surprise here. Gonna need to do it again, I believe.

Coronavirus 10 times more deadly than swine flu, says WHO
The swine flu pandemic, which spanned a stretch of time between January 2009 and August 2010, saw more than 1.6million confirmed cases, resulting in the confirmed deaths of 18,449 people.

Now the World Health Organisation’s top official Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has warned the coronavirus pandemic currently gripping the planet has outstripped the fatalities caused by the H1N1 strain tenfold.

It comes as the UN health body urges governments to relax restrictions slowly as nations including Denmark, the US and Spain move towards reopening their societies.

China restricts publication of coronavirus research
China has restricted the publication of academic research on the origins of the coronavirus, according to a central government directive and notices published by two Chinese universities.

The new guidelines require that all academic papers on the coronavirus undergo additional vetting before being submitted for publication, according to CNN. Studies on the origin of the virus also must be approved by central government officials, said the notices, which have since been removed from the web.

The increased scrutiny appears to be another attempt by the Chinese government to control the narrative about the coronavirus. China has been accused of concealing the extent of the outbreak.

Since I'm not sure where best to mention this, if anyone's curious what the House is up to this month: They're effectively doing absolutely nothing until the 12th of May. The next two weeks were wiped off of the calendar and they have no voting days whatsoever until May 12th. The only thing they've been doing all month is "attending events or meeting with constituents" (District work periods).

Take a stroll back through the calendar and compare this month to all of their previous months, and remember that this is supposed to be their "crunch time" where they're working ever so hard to help the American people during a crisis. The only reason I bring it up is because Politico effectively took a shit on the Senate for not meeting again until Thursday, but I've yet to see them mention that the House hasn't done a single thing since March 26th because they're essentially on paid vacation.

I cannot imagine people would be willing to spend a good 2 years in lockdown conditions. Only a month has past since the lockdown went into effect and people are having none of it. I expect riots nationwide if this lockdown continues into May.

CNN is just pushing the Democrat narrative that we all have to be shutdown for years or end, thus needing and requiring to do all mail-in ballots for the General Election in November.

Literally two days ago, I heard "from scientists" that the very last phase of getting things 100% back to normal would be to allow stadium concerts and music festivals to take place ... Which might not happen until Fall 2021. Now we're hearing that we have to be isolated for TWO YEARS? The inconsistencies are simply mindblowing at this point.

This is just alarmist reporting to get people scared and panicked. "Mail-in ballots will save people's lives! We need to harvest YOUR ballots to save lives! If you go out to vote, you'll die!"

Fuck off, CNN.
