If Phil tried that, he would possibly wind up staying in a place that's arguably healthier than his current lifestyle, with 3 meals a day and a roof over his head that isn't a bridge. Only this particular place wouldn't let him check out early. Also, the food there wouldn't consist of whole blocks of cheese. But they may have an in-house tattoo artist.

I made close to $200 flying a sign in the subway station.

In just a couple hours. Also enough food to feed 6 people. People coming home from restaurant would see me and give me the leftovers. I must have picked a really good station. But there was one person who just straight up gave me a $100 bill. I didn't realize until after the fact when I had uncrumpled it but by then they were long gone.

Anyway, the people there sound generous, but Phil probably wouldn't have the same luck due to being Phil - if he could resort to panhandling.

Yeah, if you go panhandling, you can get a decent amount of money if done in the right zone and you fit the part. It's why some people pretend to be homeless and beg for money.

That and if you're cheap and don't want to pay for food, you will get dinner this way. My aunt often prefers to give beggers food over money for instance since a homeless person will typically accept this just fine too, essentially a way to give charity while ensuring that you didn't give money to a con.

And Phil would likely do poorly since he doesn't have the right attitude (which will leech into his speech) and the way he looks will offput most people.

You know, it's been so long that I've since forgotten who held on to the money originally. I know we spent part of it on bus fare to get to their moms house in New Jersey. We spent part of it on tokens for Philadelphia's subway system. And I believe the rest we spent on food. Food we shared.
